  1. MON will not pay 12m for Bellamy and I dont think Curbishley either so take it easy people. MON will look at Bellamy and if he can get him for between 6-8m I think he'll take a punt. They'll be no bidding war for bellamy. Some players are worth a bidding war and playing over the odds but there are enough alternatives to bellamy to make paying over the odds unneccessary. If the price approaches 9-10m he'll go for defoe instead. If the prices go towards 12m he'll look at Bent.

  2. one of the best articles i have read on villatalk. The kid was as good as lampard and gerrard at 21. He never utilised his talent. When he is 50 he will look back and think what could have been. still tho, legend.

    No he wasn't

I'd say he was better than Lampard, not as good as Gerrard, at 21. Lampard at 21 couldn't do what Lee good. Its sad that he's leaving, but not sad that he has to go. I dunno if that reads very well but I know what I mean in my head. Goodbye Lee, my deep love of Villa is built on a foundation of memories and you are a big part of those.

  3. Evernot? Nope

Spuds ? Nope they have Bale

Barcodes ? Nope too far north

Everton-Spurs-Newcastle links. The staple diet of every lazy journalist. Spot on Richard. Bale, location, and not wanting to be bored stiff playing for everton leaves just us. What I dont get is that there isn't much difference between oxford-bodymoor heath and oxford-pompey training ground.

  4. Just because we dont have a set budget does not mean that paying 8m for taylor would be acceptable. Taylor would be a squad player, no more. 8m should get a player that is good enough to go straight into the midfield. Agree with richard that he is a typical MON signing though. Just cant see what he would bring in that I dont think for a second he is better than anything we already have.

you might think taylor is nothing more than a squad player but mon might think he is more than just that. I haven't seen enough of the lad to fully judge but i do trust MON when it comes to bringing players in.

If barry is to play centre mid next season we need a proper left sided player, i don't think berger has a whole season in him and i'm not sure it's maloneys best position so IMO taylor would be an improvement on what we already have.

He doesnt do anything. If you judge a good player by how often they appear on MOTD or in the Sun then Matty Taylor is awesome as his spectacular goals get him noticed in highlights or match reports. I live in Pompey and they'll be no uproar should he be allowed to leave. Remember tomm hizt? Decent player but everytime he scored a screamer it hid some very average performances.

  6. Taylor is not the Portsmouth lynchpin, he is not the player in that team that makes everything tick and he doesn't grab games by the scruff of the neck.

Who would you say was then?

If he moves this summer (and I don't think he will), I would be very surprised if he went for anything under £8 million.

If MON paid 8m for taylor i'd be very very concerned.

  7. the only things Barry and taylor have in common is a few goals under there belt and favouring their left foot. i cant even believe anyone would try and compare the two. If we paid over 4m then I'd think we paid too much. Which, by the way is exactly what I expect us to do.

And for the record if I were to buy anyone from pompey it would be Gary O'Neil, who probably is pompeys Gareth Barry

  8. Taylor would be a great signing but i doubt he will leave Pompy at the most exciting time in their history. That would have been like Barry living us last season.

It might be the most exciting time in THEIR history but thats still not very exciting. Gaydamac is not as rich as the papers think and most of his money is tied up with the new ground anyway. On the subject of the ground, its around 5-10 yrs away yet and they train on a school.

  9. I've lived in Pompey for years now and Matty Taylor is nothing more than an average prem performer. Kieran is right, he does work very hard but you dont get much more of a contribution. He get the odd spectacular goal but thats only a few times a season and over 40 games he aint too hot. I would be very happy with him as cover, and then obviously he'd have to get in the side on merit but if he's having 'talks' with Villa why haven't pompey confirmed a bid has being accepted.

He scored 9 goals last season.

Which is a good return, but in the games where he doesnt find the net he doesnt do anything.

  11. I think Villa should go for Julio Baptista. Arsenal has lethim go back to Real Madrid because they choose not to make his deal permanent. I´ve seen enough of Baptista to see that he would give us something special that we dont have now. He´s quick and he is tough to meet. Very athletic. He also has an eye for goal because he made loads for Sevilla before he went to Real Madrid and Baptista was sacrificed by Real because of the Reyes deal.

    I like Baptista...

    Would I like that!
