I'll be honest.. I watched Newcastle's UEFA Cup match yesterday.. and the magpies have this player who played REALLY well. I think he would be a great pick-up... Can't remember his first name.. but it was something Milner.

Clearly not saying we should or would get him.. but Peter Crouch looked great today against Galatasaray... and that scissor kick goal :shock:

Now I know that's a touchy subject here.. ("I never rated him" "he's in the past" "he's terrible and still is") but I wish when we had him.. we would've played more to his strengths. JPA is clearly showing this year.. that when you do.. a player can shine in a particular system. Either way.. I'm happy for the bean pole seemed like a great guy who never bitched. I for one never got on him really bad.. but I'm glad he's silencing one or two people.. who would NEVER admit it.

I liked Crouchie and tbh I never understood why DOLdemort sold him for 2M.

With what he has achieved with liverplop and for England I wonder what his market value is now ?

Luckily, MON has been able to revitalise JPA and give Luke and Gabby masterclasses in CF play. But what about the future? I doubt that Crouch would want to come back and whether MON would be interested in him may be a moot point.

Remember Baros only scored 9 for plop last season playing in practically every game yet moaned when dropped.

He started 22 games and appeared 4 times as a sub, so 9 goals is not so bad.

What was Angel's line last season?

I think he'll do better this game because of the obvious.. he's not facing ManU AND its defence by himself.

I think allot of people have to high hopes for Baros here. IMO he has played well for country but not for Liverpool. I would like to see him in three-four games for Villa before i pass my judgement and hopefully he will be the massaiah everybody here seem to think he will be.....As for me I'm not so sure....... Head down, running towards goal, ending up getting tackled or sending some shitty shot away are my recent memories of Baros.......

Sorry disn't mean it to sound harsh and come accross as all knowing. I'm just fed up of angel and the excuses that go along with his poor performances. I really don't think he has any attributes that can improve aston villa as a team and i really don't like the idea of dropping a promising player like davis just to try and fit JPA in the team.

Yeah but for the alternatives that we have.. I think its worth a shot. (no pun intended) Don't get me wrong I really like Davis.. but IMO I would like for DOL just to give it a shot..

When Phillips signed everyone on here said 'good cover for a respectable price' I've seen nothing to change that thinking.

And Risso those 30 games would be the 30 games he never had a pacey DazVass alongside him, well as it we've replace DV with a 'better' version I still want to see JPA / Baros - that pairing excites me. Phillips / Baros doesn't

What use is a striker who has to resort to another player's attributes? Baros may have pace, but he's a completely different player to Vassell, who did most of his good work out wide, drawing defenders away. Baros makes driving runs into the box, which I can't see doing much for JPA's limited game.

But weve always known that about Angel. He was like that before we signed him. So people make it sound as if all of a sudden he can't do it. JPA looked like a little rag doll next to Rio. But that's not his game. Personally put him on the bench and bring him in later in the match for the change of pace or style.

JPA has been completely dismal for about the last 30 consecutive matches, at least. How many more excuses are people going to make for him? Needs decent passes, needs a pacey player, hasn't had a full preseason yada yada yada. He's a skilful player, and a really nice bloke to boot, but he just doesn't have the pace for the Premiership anymore, and he just doesn't make enough space for himself to get any shots off.

On what evidence can you say that he would be good as an attacking midfielder, has he ever played in that position? The only passes i see angel make are sideways or backwards so i fail to see why he'd be so great as an attacking midfielder. Also an attacking midfielder should be someone who can run with the ball at players something that angel cannot do. Just because his passing and creativity stats are good on champ doesn't mean he can do a job there. Angel has nothing more to offer aston villa than as cover for the two better strikers we now have.

I wouldnt mind if DOL made a little special thing with the team and choosed to play Angel as an attacking midfielder. He wants the ball and he is a good passer.

I wish! I think its a good idea to drop JPA just behind Baros/Phillips. Angel hasn't been Ronaldinho granted... but I think he'd be a better creative center midfielder then the one's we already have.

No, but having some pace the previous Saturday may have made enough difference to give us 3 rather than 1 points.

But IMO I didn't think the ball was close enough the entire game to get a good shot on goal. Lets face it.. it took super grueling work to get the ball up front.. (that is until Nobby arrived)

Your right but I guess my point is is that we can't afford Baros and other players. But if we split up the money and get a striker, midfielder and a central defender would that be more beneficial.

To me its like buying an expensive belt that I like.. but in order to afford it I have to buy cheap pants with no hoops on it.

The reason Villa have been haggling so hard over the price is because they don't want to spend the entire kittyon him and if reports are to be believed and we have agreed a fee then there is money left.

Because from what I can tell from Aston Villa and from what people tell me.. they are not the biggest spenders in the world and have been known to lie to people in the past. Are you still waiting for the 20 million?

the good thing if we get baros is that he is young, he will imrpove, and if we decide to sell im sure we can get a big chunk of the 6m back...
