  1. Bargain basement signings if you ask me - we need to be looking at better players than these.

Why do you suppose nobody else has tried to sign any of these players, the speculation has been ongoing regarding them so one would presume they would have left by now!

Quite simply they are not good enough!

The same reason as nobody looked at Darren Bent apart from Charlton.

I am not saying we should sign all players from lower leagues, but just coz they don't play for AC Milan - doesn't mean they are not a bad player !!.

McShane is a very good, solid right back - the type of player we need. Not many get past him, does't offer a lot going forward but if you have Gabby, Ashley, Barry,Petrov, Luke and prob. one or two others in front of you - you shouldn't have to !!

Can't particularly remember many clubs apart from us looking at a youngster from Brighton called Gareth Barry - didn't mean he was crap !!!

But the difference is that Koumas for instance is not a young player, like Barry was when he signed for us and so too when Bent signed for Charlton.

There is a reason why nobody in the Prem has tryed to sign the Koumas' of this world!

  2. General,

Feels like I am bombarding you with thoughts but I have 36 yrs bottled up that I could never release until now...

I don't know how much you are up with player histories but I am sure you know the Legend that is Paul McGrath... (or God as he is known) The best player to ever play for this club and we have had some greats !!!.

Unfortunately 1 thing sours Gods' tenure at Villa and that is that when he left he was given a fairwell testimonial. Unfortunately for many reasons (I think the main one is it was sandwiched in the middle of a cup final and a FA cup semi final if I remember correctly) the attendance was appalling - 12000 and every Villa fan is still totally embarrassed of the fact.

Is there any way we can honour God properly, I am not saying for his financial benefit (but this maybe an idea as I understand he is on hard times - but this may have been sorted) but maybe a charity game in his homour

He really deserves better than he got and I guess, no - I know, you will get every villa fan agreeing with me on this one !!!

Agree entirely with your comments; Paul McGrath is a legend and deserves much respect.

  3. Villa team after summer:

    ----------------------Green--------------------------

    Bardsley-----Cahill-----Mellberg------Barry---------

    ---------Sidwell-----Petrov-------Koumas-------

    Maloney-------------------------------------SWP-------

    -----------------------CAREW------------------------------

    Subs/possible starters:

    R.Keane

    A.Ferdinand

    L.Moore

    A.young

    Mccann

Barry is not a left-back; hence the reason Glen Little had him on toast against Reading! Furthermore, I'd rather have Moore playing Left side than SWP, and Koumas is not good enough!

Ferdinand and Keane are also rubbish in my opinion. Sidwell, however looks a good player.

Or we could just scratch that list of yours and sign Hargreaves!

  4. News of the World is reporting we're going to offer Angel plus £8m for Keane.

Not sure how I feel about that.

I don't think Keane is worth £8m, yet alone the offer of Angel as well.

Agree entirely, Robbie Keane is so over-rated, Luke Moore is better and has more potential, no pun intended!

I think Angel has a future with us if he wants that, although it will not obviously be playing in the first team very often. However, it's a squad game and we need the numbers.

  5. General Krulak here:

A key to our success will be the Fans!!! When our lads are spilling their guts on the Pitch, we need 45,000 maniacs screaming their lungs out in the stands.

So, for all you stayaway fans, let those words be ringing in your ears; no pun intended!

And I would attend Villa Park every week if I could, although I'm currently in a foreign land!

    UP the VILLA.

  6. take it with a large pinch of salt (try a decanters worth) but a bloke at my work (who supports Walsall) reckons

that this week Robbie Keane had been seen down Villa Park.

Even though its more than likely bull, he's a player I could always imagine in a Villa shirt........

Hopefully this is a load of rubbish, Robbie Keane is the most over-rated footballer ever. In my personal opinion, of course!

  7. he was not happy thought i was a reporter , spoke to his gf and then he took phone off her asking who it was. i asked if he was going to villa he said ,he cant say and he heard nothing about it only in the papers

If....if this was true and if.....if you spoke to him dont you think you might of ruined our chances of signing him!

Either that, or they'll have to make the information public knowedge very quickly!

  8. "Yes sir, he's here. He arrived at 4.37pm today and is due to check out at 11am tomorrow. He is currently dining with Mr Martin O'Neill, who is currently on his second course, which is grilled breast of chicken in a garlic sauce on a bed of tagliatelle. Would you like me to fetch Mr Defoe and ask him to call you back?"

I think not. True or not, phoning the hotel is pointless.

    Oh, the hilarity!

  9. A random and almost certainly fabricated link and people have got their razor blades out already.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

i will be very reluctant to give him a chance

How on earth can people say things like that?

Because it sets rather a poor tone, considering Villa have certain aspirations, this signing would be a travesty.

If indeed there is any truth to it at all?!

  10. Chelsea are better and have a much bigger fanbase, the only thing that favour us is our history.

The question is who has the bigger potential in fanbase? Chelsea have the home counties and west london as there catchement areas; however they face stiff competition from other London clubs and other successful teams. Villa have the potential of the whole of the Midlands region and towards the West country. There aren’t really any other big clubs in the Midlands, so the potential is greater. Get the team going in the right direction long term and Villa shouldn’t have any problems being on a fan base with Chelsea

Well said; the potential of Villa is massive, and we could be the biggest team in Britain!

There are 3.5 million adults within 25 miles of the Villa. There are 8 million within an hours drive. If you can just encourage 2% of these to become ticket buying supporters, the future could be very interesting and highly profitable.

  11. Spoken like a true loser. I watched Villa win the big one in 82. If we are ever to compete at this level again we need to act like we mean it. For Christs sake mate we're the second city of Britain ,former champions of Europe, with one of the best managers around. If we can't attract them now we never will. It seems some Villa fans just don't know how big their own club is.

Believe what you like. If you think that the average player is going to choose us over Man Utd or Arsenal at the moment then you are wrong. Simple as that.

We've not been turning up for far too long, and it's not going to be a case of just turning up at the top table and expecting everything to be like it was in the early 1980s. Life doesn't work like that, and there's a lot of work to be done first.

Are average players going to be wanted by the likes of Manure? No, didn't think so. Primarily, players want to play and if they are an improvement on what we already have then they know they'll play, simple!

We already have too many average players and I think O'Neill will attract players of a better quality than the likes of Earnshaw. Darren Bent seems the best choice at the moment!

    UTV.
