  1. Just to throw it out there

The owners of the club said they are going to wait to get the right man. If you were cynical and if as speculated we have no money to spend on players, are they waiting to get the right man when the transfer window is shut?

This has been mooted several times over the last week but the General has denied it. I don't think it's fair to suggest this - MONs exit was completely out of the blue, so it's obviously going to take time to find a strong candidate to appoint.

  2. General K

Shocking performance today, but without getting too caught up in what went wrong, I think it's clear Kevin Macdonald is not the man to take Villa forward. This is the single worst result I've seen Villa succumb to, and if we're really serious about pushing for 4th then we need a man with exceptional managerial experience, pedigree and respect. Macdonald only has one of those requirements.

I have to echo the calls for a manager like Martin Jol. But whoever you choose, please make an appointment before the end of the transfer window because we desperately need to re-enforce our squad.

    Thanks.

  3. Bad omen alert:

I played a pre-season friendly yesterday for a local Saturday league team. We were up against a team a couple of divisions higher who were all wearing Newcastle shirts (they'd got them on the cheap!).

Anyway, despite not expecting to win, it was a completely one sided game and we got completely walloped! This has made me feel a little less optimistic about today!

Posted that in the match thread before kick off - think I might give up Saturday league now!

  4. Whats wrong with Ronald Koeman? I thought he would be a decent appointment tell truths.

From what I've read other people posting, he isn't that good as a manager.

We don't just need a big named person, we need someone who can manage the team also.....Big names might attract players, but that isn't going to help us when we need to offload some who are on high wages for doing f all.

    Fair shout.

Got to be a better shout than Bob Bradley though no?

Kev Mac seems to be hyped as an excellent 'man manager'. So if he does win today I'd hope we appoint him as the permanent manager. He knows the players, he's willing to blood the youngsters, and he's been at the club for over a decade so knows it inside out. I'd much rather see him given a go than risk losing what MON has built up for a unknown commodity like Bradley, Maradona, Klinsmann or Koeman.

If Kev Mac decides against taking the role on full time, then at least Sven or Jol know the league pretty well.

  6. Having been told they can leave, Diarra or Gago would be awesome signings. But unfortunately their wages will be huge and I'm sure they'll want to go to a club in the Champs League.

    Imagine this line up:

    -------------Friedel-------------

    Young-Dunne-Cuellar-Warnock

    --------Petrov---Diarra--------

    ------------Ireland--------------

    Downing-----------------Young

    -----------Agbonlahor-----------

    So much pace and power!

  7. Davies looks like he hasn't played a competitive game in months, and Hogg looks out of his depth. If we can get another away goal then I think we'd be in a strong position for the second leg. Not that Villa really give a toss about the Europa

  8. Hi General

Rumours are just that and must be taken with a pinch of salt, but Bob Bradley? Sorry to get all Thatcheresque on you, but no, no, no!

I just want to re-iterate this. Please General, if you want to avoid a fan backlash don't appoint a relatively unproven manager like Bob Bradley. If need be, spend some of the Milner money on a really top class manager like Hiddink or Jol.

  9. Heskey ain't going lads... who would want him?

Would be quite please if we got rid of Sidwell though. Hopefully that would mean more opportunity for Delph, Albrighton and Reo-Coker.

If we had another £100k available for wages, how much would Keane take up? I reckon he'd want £50-60k, meaning £40-50k for a backup left back and possibly another young midfielder

i think 40-50k per week for a backup left back is how we get in this mess in the first place.

I also mentioned another midfielder. 20-30k a week is probably about right for 2 good quality players to supplement the squad.
