anyone want to speculate why Randy is sat next to Keith Harris?
Maybe we're being sold to some Arabs!
-
Great spell at the end of the half there, but we'll struggle to win this if we keep giving the ball back to them so much.
-
Albrighton isn't playing too well IMO - keeps on leaving his man to close down another, which opens up a hole on the flank. I'd get Gabby on at HT
-
Ronald Koeman's managerial history is pretty poor. He got Valencia to finish 15th - that's like Liverpool or Arsenal finishing 15th in the Prem.
-
Just to throw it out there
The owners of the club said they are going to wait to get the right man. If you were cynical and if as speculated we have no money to spend on players, are they waiting to get the right man when the transfer window is shut?
This has been mooted several times over the last week but the General has denied it. I don't think it's fair to suggest this - MONs exit was completely out of the blue, so it's obviously going to take time to find a strong candidate to appoint.
-
Houliier wouldn't be a bad shout - he is still well respected at Liverpool and many said it was his team that won them the Champs League. Much better option than Bradley, Curbs or Sven IMO
Ideally though I'd like Jol or Hitzfeld

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HESKEY LOL

EMILY HESKEY YOU **** SHIT word removed

Come on Villa - bit more composure with the passing please!
-
I think it's this simple. If Ajax don't qualify for Champs League against Kiev then they will have to sell some of their best players. This was one of the reasons Jol almost went to Fulham.
So if Villa are interested in Jol, we better hope and pray that he loses at home to Kiev on Wednesday.

General K
Shocking performance today, but without getting too caught up in what went wrong, I think it's clear Kevin Macdonald is not the man to take Villa forward. This is the single worst result I've seen Villa succumb to, and if we're really serious about pushing for 4th then we need a man with exceptional managerial experience, pedigree and respect. Macdonald only has one of those requirements.
I have to echo the calls for a manager like Martin Jol. But whoever you choose, please make an appointment before the end of the transfer window because we desperately need to re-enforce our squad.
Thanks.

Bad omen alert:
I played a pre-season friendly yesterday for a local Saturday league team. We were up against a team a couple of divisions higher who were all wearing Newcastle shirts (they'd got them on the cheap!).
Anyway, despite not expecting to win, it was a completely one sided game and we got completely walloped! This has made me feel a little less optimistic about today!
Posted that in the match thread before kick off - think I might give up Saturday league now!

Whats wrong with Ronald Koeman? I thought he would be a decent appointment tell truths.
From what I've read other people posting, he isn't that good as a manager.
We don't just need a big named person, we need someone who can manage the team also.....Big names might attract players, but that isn't going to help us when we need to offload some who are on high wages for doing f all.
Fair shout.
Got to be a better shout than Bob Bradley though no?
Kev Mac seems to be hyped as an excellent 'man manager'. So if he does win today I'd hope we appoint him as the permanent manager. He knows the players, he's willing to blood the youngsters, and he's been at the club for over a decade so knows it inside out. I'd much rather see him given a go than risk losing what MON has built up for a unknown commodity like Bradley, Maradona, Klinsmann or Koeman.
If Kev Mac decides against taking the role on full time, then at least Sven or Jol know the league pretty well.

No, not BB
I got the impression that BB wants the job but Villa haven't exactly been forthcoming. He'll be on their list, but I'd imagine not first choice.

Having been told they can leave, Diarra or Gago would be awesome signings. But unfortunately their wages will be huge and I'm sure they'll want to go to a club in the Champs League.
Imagine this line up:
-------------Friedel-------------
Young-Dunne-Cuellar-Warnock
--------Petrov---Diarra--------
------------Ireland--------------
Downing-----------------Young
-----------Agbonlahor-----------
So much pace and power!

Del boy on for Bannan. Come on son - bag us a winner

Beautiful pass from Albrighton there. Wish I could say the same about NRCs passing
-
BOOM GUZAN! NO GOAL FOR YOU!
-
Davies looks like he hasn't played a competitive game in months, and Hogg looks out of his depth. If we can get another away goal then I think we'd be in a strong position for the second leg. Not that Villa really give a toss about the Europa

Hi General
Rumours are just that and must be taken with a pinch of salt, but Bob Bradley? Sorry to get all Thatcheresque on you, but no, no, no!
I just want to re-iterate this. Please General, if you want to avoid a fan backlash don't appoint a relatively unproven manager like Bob Bradley. If need be, spend some of the Milner money on a really top class manager like Hiddink or Jol.

Heskey ain't going lads... who would want him?
Would be quite please if we got rid of Sidwell though. Hopefully that would mean more opportunity for Delph, Albrighton and Reo-Coker.
If we had another £100k available for wages, how much would Keane take up? I reckon he'd want £50-60k, meaning £40-50k for a backup left back and possibly another young midfielder
i think 40-50k per week for a backup left back is how we get in this mess in the first place.
I also mentioned another midfielder. 20-30k a week is probably about right for 2 good quality players to supplement the squad.

We're putting the blocks and tackles in where it matters, but if we learnt how to keep and pass the ball better we wouldn't have to make so many last ditch tackles.
