Hasselbaink would have been one hell of a signing.

He also said that Atletico signed him on JG's recommendation to the Atlético Chairman, Jesus gill weren't it - played for Luton with him..............

Yes, I think you’re right on this. Definitely some rumours about him at the time.

Only ever had one bit of ITK, which I only found out straight from the horses mouth only a couple years or so ago...… we were as close as you can get to signing Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink after selling Yorkie,  but he turned us down last minute when he was at Leeds.   Told me his agent had heard rumours of interest from the big clubs in Spain and from Liverpool, so decided to push those moves, but they never came off and he eventually got his move 12 months after.   He tried to ressurect it but wed since been and signed Dion Dublin.

Well that was his probably his 1st game after injury

If think Vlaar and Okore were our worst centre backs then I assume you must really rate Richards and Lescott

not at all, but the whole point of the thread is "players you got wrong" ...... i didn't get Richards or Lescott wrong.  Both formerly good players and way past their best and injury prone when we signed them - i cant put them as the worst as I wasn't expecting the earth from them … On the other hand, Vlaar and Okore weren't - hence I got them wrong.  I thought theyd be good signings, but the realism is they wouldn't have improved a league 2 club they were that poor.

Okore was vs some foreign team in villa park when hed recently joined - abysmal showing - i thought then he would be a busted flush - he didnt get any better, then got crocked.  Really Really Bad

A game he didnt actually play 😉

club website doesnt have him playing Walsall in 2013 but Donacien

    https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2014/08/05/walsall-0-1-villa-match-report-hutton-on-target-in-comfortable-win

I knew id seen him play at bescot............ but it was summer after - i defo saw him play the preseason he signed, and he was dross... think he got an OG and everything - possible up there with Ron Vlaar as the wankest centre half ive ever seen don boots

  5. I read BFR book and in it he mentioned wanting to sign Fashanu but Wimbledon werent playing ball......... so he went and got a young striker in a similar mould from Italy, flew him in, ready to sign on the dotted for a fraction of the price Fash would cost, when Wimbledon called and said theyd deal at the price we wanted, but it meant the young kid had to go back............ the young lad pleaded for the opportunity, but BFR mind was made up he wanted the experience.

    The player - Oliver Bierhoff

BFR says its one of his regrets at Villa..........

I’m sure I read somewhere that MON could have signed Suarez in the January window where he decided that Heskey was the best option.

I think there were rumours after we played AJAX in the uefa cup we were sniffing...........

  7. In all your time being Villa supporters, who were the linked players that we thought we were getting to the club, that you really wanted us to get - but didnt happen...........

Mine was always Lee Sharpe under Big Ron, linked every other week - never happened

I'm just looking through old squads to remind myself.

    I vastly over-rated/had higher expectations for;

Amavi, Vlaar, Allback, Routledge, Maloney, Carruthers, Ireland, Okore, Hogan, McCormack, Gil.

Haha Ron Vlaar........... possibly the most over rated player ive ever seen in my 35 years of going Villa....... Polystyrene Ron was absolutely god awful

From that cursed team - I thought Jores Okore was going to be quality. I forget that clip - but he out paced some UCL player and he was excellent during his debut.

Then he did his ACL and never looked the same again.

i remember going to the annual preseason game at Bescot when wed signed Jores Okore, and i was looking forward to seeing him play, and he was embaressingly bad,  he kept shanking the ball, shirking headers, closing his eyes, turning his back - i knew then he was a dud - one of the few I got right

We had a very good transfer window but it just feels like we needed one more attacker.

The selling of Archer, Ramsey and Philogene gave the impression we would use that money to bring in a premier league ready player but we didn't.

Now loaning out Coutinho gets his wages off our books too without a replacement.

There's no doubt that we have great owners and a great manager but you could be mistaken thinking that our spending might have just been tightened a little.

I guess the next couple of transfer windows will tell us !

I aggree - i also feel weve maybe taken too many players from Overseas, who could potentially take time to settle and could initially see us go backwards a little before we stride forwards again

I thought this summer, would have been good to go and get 3/4 players who would "hit the ground running" ........ not too dissimilar to Tielemans - ie we know hell setttle, not have to acclimatise and give a level of performance..........  players like Harvey Barnes, Laporte and to an extent, Ferran Torres or Guendouzi who we know can cope with the league............

    Panic buys!

    We're not like that anymore.

i genuinely would have had a punt on Daka as a bench option........ not been used enough at leicester, when in reality he should have been the Vardy replacement...... whether 2 seasons on bench has hindered his progress, but hes always looked tidy when ive seen him....... not a bad signing for bournemouth

Is Luis Sinisterra worth looking at ? Scored a goal every 2 games worth of minutes in a poor Leeds team. Left winger but can play right and a mate for Duran, plus knows the league so less adaptation time.

not a bad shout - looked a good player

  13. im a bit younger than a lot, born in 79 but my first game was around 85, Paul Rideout scored in a 3-0 win against Wednesday.. not really hooked at that point, but went to a few games, as well as the Saddlers with family, but really got a bit more interested late 80s, then was engrossed at the opening game at bescot in 1990.... and thats when Villa become my club properly..........

Seen us runners up a couple times, seen some top top players, Cowans, Platt, McGrath, Yorke, Staunton, Townsend, Houghton, Deano and Dalian, Milosevic, Barry, Merson etc.... seen a couple cups, and a few Wembley appearances - it aint been that bad

Over recent years, i've lost my passion, not just for Villa, but football in general........ I watch/go to all Villa games, and i might watch MOTD if I can be arsed....... apart from that I watch **** all football last 10 years............. overhyped massively, turnover of managers and players is way too high - and it seems now the fanbases arent that interested in Saturdays result, but more interested in transfers and net spend.......... i watch the games now, and enjoy them but I dont get too high with the wins and too low with the lows - makes for a more enjoyable watch for me ...............

bring back only knowing about transfers and rumours when you picked up the E&S or watched central news.......... i always remember going to see a band with my dad in a pub in walsall wood, and Phil Mepham was in there and he told me we were signing Julian Joachim the next day....... i was schools first ITK before they were cool the next day

    Proper football

this was my usual pre-match haunt 90s and early 00s  - I remember cov storming it once and turning it over and most people getting a kicking - they left me and my mate alone cos wed ordered food, so we just watched the carnage ensue while we stuffed some wings down us !

Back to Zaniolo, I completely get why Galatasaray would want this... But I think an obligation to buy at €30m is too steep.

I'd much rather we went for Ferran again or paid more for Mo Kudus than be forced into buying Zaniolo.

Maybe he could be great. But 2 prior ACLs with our current issues, questionable Ego and rejecting Bournemouth for the Super Lig is all a.bit much for me at an obligation of €30m. A loan I could understand but I'd rather we move on if this is true

Rejecting Bournemouth to play for Gala ?? are you serious - yes I get the fact bournemouth are in the premier, but its **** Bournemouth, a glorified 4th division club whove had a purple patch

Prem might be competitive, but its still a league that contains bournemouth, brighton, burnley,, luton etc.........

    dont believe the hype
