I doubt this is a leak of the kit. It’s from a marketing brochure so they’re have just knocked up a claret and blue example.

I like adidas but that template is not good. I think Nike had a very similar template in the noughties.

The released 2024 Adidas kits have a panel like this in the sleeve join

  2. I think it's weird that we added 1874 this time after removing Prepared from the Lerner badge because it made it look unbalanced. It's taking up the same level of space on the badge and has roughly equivalent value. What's the point?

Remove the 1874 and at least it's better balanced, so we can have a nice badge in monochrome.

The drop shadow and washed out colours suck but otherwise it looks like a Villa badge.

How do people feel about the badge not containing any claret?

    I think it's fine.

The border is claret, the name is claret, and it will sit on a claret background on the shirt, and it's designed primarily to sit on the shirt. I think the Lerner badge being mostly blue looked nicer on a claret and blue shirt than the current West Ham badge which is majority claret.

There are clubs all over the world who have logos that don't match their primary shirt colour. It's not the end of the world, and it's about how it works as a package.

  4. A reminder that the original Lerner badge was the result of a fan consultation and a series of votes, and ever change since has been the result of either a vote or significant fan pressure for the badge to be different in some way.

A shield won a fan vote in 2007. I'm don't remember the ins and outs of the Lerner fan vote, but IIRC, we were effectively voting for elements. Those elements were effectively put together into something that didn't quite work. And if we hold the club to the most recent fan vote moving forward, we'll end up with something that doesn't work again because we'll be shoehorning together elements that were voted for for different reasons in different contexts.

The new badge is a misguided attempt to fix the common criticisms of the Lerner badge under financial constraints that have, as far as I can tell, dictated  that we can't change the lion because it's plastered all over the stadium and the costs are too great to replace it. It seems to be just hubris from Heck dictating that we didn't just go back to the Lerner badge, but I think that stems from Heck recognising that there was a strong dissatisfaction with the Lerner badge and an appetite for change.

We probably need to give it a few years to let the dust settle on this badge, and ultimately it'll be fine. It won't make us look ridiculous, the majority of the Villa supporterbase will be generally positive about it. It won't look significantly different on the shirt from the Lerner badge. This will all happen again in few years, and I for one look forward to the new Villatalk thread! We just need to make sure that we don't make our next process another design by committee.

Why don't they put it out to a vote then. Like in 2022.

Because the club set the terms of the vote. Just like they did in 2022. So if they ask "Do you like this badge" to the general supporter base, you get the full spectrum from the people in this thread to the little old ladies to the general masses who haven't considered colour theory and will like it because it has a lion and "Aston Villa" on it. And then it scrapes over the line to 54.8%, and another badge that has been "voted for".

    Fan votes are bad.

  6. Heck was right that the round badge had a lukewarm reception but his decision to scrap it was 100% about money and money only.

What we should have done is just reverted to the Lerner badge instead of releasing a "new" badge that will cause more anger.

I hope one day we are told the ins and outs of what happened with this because it's been a bizarre sequence of events for us to move to a clearly inferior badge.

Mm I dont want to break the bad news to you but Leverkusen is as plastic a club as can get and even have the name of the pharmaceutical owners in the name

There are really no major professional football clubs that can be followed ethically if you're that way inclined, but this will mean more to Leverkusen fans than the same season ever could to Bayern. They've never won a Bundesliga.

Voting in June.  Klopp has said he would scrap it.   I would keep it for everything except offside

the flag staying down already has created needless injuries to players

the flag staying doen has already created corner kicks when a free kick to defense was correct

prrsonally i think it depends too much on tge frane speed and when the video is stopped   Also, hangails off are the intent of the rule   Neither are shirt sleeves or hair length   The intent is to prevent forwards camping with the GK eliminating a midfield a d making the game a continuous punt and hope affair

Agree fully with this. Linos letting clear offsides go is bullshit, look at Mings doing his knee chasing down a clearly offside attacker.

Hopefully the new technology works fast enough to stop these incidents.

But there is an extremely accurate and quicker technology about to be introduced for offside, why would you limit a decision to a ref just looking at a 2D picture a few times and decide?

If the tech is flawless and will be used sensibly, great! Removing the human element is great as well.

  10. All VAR should be able to do, IMO, is ask the match ref to review his decision.

Then he gets 2-3 angles of an incident in real time, and has to decide if he wants to change his decision. That's it. If he's not sure after a few more looks at it, stick with your on-field decision. The ref retains responsibility for all of it.

Same for offside, let the ref see it in real time from a couple of angles and make a decision.

  11. I don't see that as a bad comment at all. It's Tyrone acknowledging that the standards at this club keep going up and that the club have a responsibility to the supporters.

I can't wait to see him play Champions League football. He and McGinn who joined at our lowest point and have risen with us.
