Manager Martin O’Neill hopes to wrap up his first summer signing in the next week before Reo-Coker flies out with the England squad for the European under-21 championships in Holland.

West Ham and England under-21 captain Reo-Coker is set to sign for Villa providing late interest doesn’t surface from Newcastle, who have been linked with the former Wimbledon man to replace Scott Parker, who is due to sign for the Hammers for £7m.

Newcastle would move for Reo-Coker if they fail to sign Manchester City’s Joey Barton, who is their chief midfield target to replace Parker and has a £5.5m release clause in his contract.

Reo-Coker has put in a second transfer request at Upton Park and the club are now willing to him go after a season in which he was barracked by fans frustrated at the team’s slump.

Sorry, but there were two words I didn't think I would ever seen mentioned in connection with the new 'Bright Future' Villa - and they come as no suprise as being;

i have it on good authority that Villa have agreed a £8M deal with Bayern Munich for Phillipe Lahm, and they are also signing Wesley Sneijder from Ajax for £8.5M. Villa are also in talks with Darren Bent for a £10.7M deal.

Totally agree, the bottom line is the papers need a story, a majority of the PL players will be / preparing to go on holiday. Other European leagues are nearing the end of their seasons so all they can do is speculate like we are doing between ourselves. Nothing will happen until mid June

Henok Goitom. Swedish wizzkid that has worked in the shadow from Zlatan, but is a very high skilled attacker/winger. He is not that big so to take him on board covering for Sutton doesnt make sense...

Riquelme is quite gettable...he is to return to his club in Spain because Boca Juniors cant afford his salary and therefor not interested in making his loan into a permanent deal. He will change club soon...hope it is Villa.

Horrible as West Ham fans may be, why Reo-Coker? They didn't just say, "Ooh, who can we vent our spleen on? Harewood? Noooo. Etherington? Noooo." There's a reason isn't there?

I heard he was on of the Bentley Boys at WHU and I heard this was one of the reasons Young did not want to talk to WHU due to the Bentley Boys acting like clearings in the woods on U21 duty.

He is a good player though and when fans get on your back it is bound to affect your performance. I still remain to be convinced that he is the sort of player to help take us to the 'next level' though

Well he has scored a lot of goals in the spanish second division with Murcia (?, not sure there) where he is on loan from Udinese. He has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid. With Mon and ISM been away to many games in europe there might be some truth in this one.

If there is some truth he won't be anything like Ibrahimovic. MON gave him a right slating on the BBC

Before we go there Ibrahimovic is the most overrated striker I have ever known. MON at the WC did not rate this guy as he expressed several times while commentating. So IF this guy is being compared to Ibrahimovic then we're definately not signing him especially while MON is in charge

I think the team looks quite ok. I would put energy on the right defence and right midfield. A new goalie that would push Sorensen or even take over his place. A central defender of bigger class than what we got. A central defensive midfielder together with a maestro attacking midfielder. A proven striker and a left winger...and we´re ready for the new season!

The areas where I havent put a name into it is where we should go BIG...that would take the team to another level and improve us hugely. As you can see I expect at least 8 new signings this summer...C´mon Martin!

£12 million for Bellamy is way too much! I do think that MON feels the same because he seems to know a lot about value of money and players. He knows Bellamy so he can surely weigh up how much money he´s worth.

Bellamy is a good player, but as someone said earlier...with his baggage he is way too expensive and way too much a risk to take for £12m!

I dont agree with the valuation of £4m either...his value should be around £8m. He is quality on the pitch and to sell him for £4m is bad business for Liverpool. They want to recoup some money and they willl not sell him on the cheap because of the "Golf tour with Riise".
