  1. Some of us appear to have developed Newcastle or Redscouse-esque delusions of grandeur.

League of our own? Do me a favour.

Everton have finished ahead of us for a good few seasons now, they've achieved something that we haven't done in nailing that hallowed 4th spot and they have a solid squad who have been together for years.

We could ask how many of their players would get in our 18, but they could say the same. Laursen, Barry, Young. After that, there's not much in it.

There was plenty of wailing and nashing of teeth in the summer from the blue half of Merseyside due to their delay in the transfer market. But in the final analysis, they were able to bring in a number of players, albeit late in the window. Fellini (sp) is an improvement on Carsley and Saha (when fit) is an improvement on Johnson.

They've been pretty dire so far this year, and yet they are still not a million miles of us.

They'll be up there in May, no question. They might not play total football getting there, but then that hasn't stopped them before.

Don't see Citeh being a threat, the Arabs will decide which box office name they want and Hughes will either have to accept or quit. It'll be fun watching the facre unfold mind. Portsmouth look like they're broke and there could be a serious exodus this Jan. Spurzzz will just be Spurzzz. Flattering to deceive, another infamous season of transition.

I expected Sunderland to maybe be contenders this year. Keane has brought in a better standard of player recently, and there seemed to be a more solid set-up there than at other clubs. But Keane looks like he is starting to get twitchy and I wouldn't be suprised if we see him out walking the dogs on SSN anytime soon.

Everton it is then, as our main rivals for 5th. Almost by default.

Top post. Loved the bit about Keane walking the dogs.. how many times that was played on SSN when he left the Ireland squad i'll never know.

  2. I don't think Sidwell, Barry or Petrov are better than Arteta to be honest.

In fact I'd say only Barry at his best is better than Cahill out of those 3.

Cahill is a different type of player than Petrov though so it's to hard to compare. I'd rather have Petrov as a holding player than I would Cahill.

  3. I tend to come down on either side, you'd always run the risk of an innocent man/women being punished, but when you think of hard working tax-payers paying for Ian Huntley's internet connection I wouldn't lose too much sleep over him going for the chop.

sometimes you ought not believe what is in tabloids ..

and as for money it would cost as much to hang someone then to keep them because of the numerous legal fees that would go on

as for any deterrent effect it has, I doubt it would have stopped Huntley or child P's killers

just like we still have mass murders in the states

so no detterent, does nto save money one thing left is the revenge factor and that does no one any good

I see what you're saying Ian but at the end of the day, tax payers are still paying for him, whether it's in the papers or not.

  4. How many of the Everton team would get into our squad of 18?

    Howard

    arteta

    Jagelika

    yobo

some woudl say Lescott but I think he is shit

    Cahill

    Osman

    Yakubu

    so quite a few

pushing it with Osman lol, just a Gardner except more experience and opportunity to play.

maybe not Gardner is part of our 18 so surely Osman woudl be

we should have gone for Jagelika though, would have been perfect for us

Personally, i'd take our Craig over Osman, but I see where you're coming from. Do you mean Jagielka would be perfect for us now, or when he was availible?

  5. How many of the Everton team would get into our squad of 18?

  6. I believe that in terms of quality and depth, confidence and momentum, were streaks ahead.

Just spoke to a friend of mine, he is a Chelsea fan, so neutral (yes he was a fan before they were good!) he says at full strength Everton have more quality and depth, but at the moment Villa are miles ahead in confidence and momentum. From a neutral ;)

Just a couple points, where would you say that 'quality and depth' comes from compared to Villa, that isn't a wind-up, i'm just intrigued (lazy and cant be bothered researching the squad :P). I wouldn't have said we had much momentum going into the Arsenal game either. Agree with the confidence part though if it was classed as the general feeling about the club.

  7. Everton don't have a lot going for them at the moment. A few journeymen backed up by a good creative midfielder and an excellent manager. Their strikeforce is unstable with the injuries to Saha and the itchy feet of Yakubu. I don't imagine they'll be much of a threat to be honest. But I'm sure other people see the situation differently.

Edited in light of Trim's reprimand

I agree with you generally, think there are much bigger theats out there.

  8. If Citeh turn on the cheats for FM so to speak and spend big in Jan, they could well be our main challengers. Just can't see it from Everton this year, unless they squeak out the 1-0's like they did in their run for 4th a few season's ago.

  9. In the Isle of Man it is legal to shoot a Scotsman 10 feet from the beach (many variations to this I think), the death penatly was abolished in 1993 (yes, you read it right) and homosexuality was punished by birching not so long ago.

Risso, i demand you shoot a Scotsman and test this law in court.

Props if you can find a way to make Siralex Ferguson said Scotsman.

    test all 3 laws?
