  1. I like the idea that Padfield has until Thursday to put in a formal bid, but now I'm really confused. What about the 10-day rule? Or the 21-day rule? Exactly how much power does Rothschild have? Can they set their own deadlines on certain consortiums? My head is going to explode!!!! :?
  2. Anyways, does anyone have any further news about the Padfield bid? Is one forthcoming?
  3. Did you mean 'septics' or 'sceptics' mate?
  4. I'm with you. Sorry it got out of hand. Damn, that's two apologies on one thread. I'll have to lay low for a while.
  5. Because, as I've said before and will continue to say..... It isn't just about one comment from Padfield or AV06. I've said my various reasons are in this thread and others. Its a combination of things that have made me very wary. To put it simply - I do not want someone in control of AVFC who are happy to resort to some of the comments and tactics we've seen over the past couple of days. I'm standing right beside you on this one Runetune. 8) Shoulder to shoulder Notice, I didn't stay standing right 'behind' you. Looks like your moral high ground on Padfield's xenophobia just collapsed, mind.. :? Just trying to lighten the mood icklevillan. If I've offended, Im genuinely sorry. Would have thought someone from California would have known better. Never been to Venice Beach, clearly I guess, being from California, one gets very tired of the rampant political correctness. Still no excuse. I think I need to be sentenced to sensitivity training courses. PS, we'd better get back on topic before the mods chastise us. :winkold:

  9. As of right now, I'd say there is a LOT more information about Randy Lerner, including the endorsement of Cleveland Browns' fans, than there is about Mr. Padfield.
  10. We're familiar with the breed. Indeed, I suspect that virtually all of us would agree that (at least) one of the major parties nominated one for the Presidency last time around. (For the record, we're a politically mixed group at the OBR, but based on our political board most of us seem to lean Republican). I can only really speak for the "right" side of the spectrum, but it seems to me that the UK is about the most popular other country right now. Poland and Australia are up there too. So any stupid comments would likely be seen as the ravings of a minority. Now if a Frenchman were to say such a thing, that might be a bit of a different situation. By the way, Condoleeza Rice is a Browns fan. Well hello there, my fellow right-leaning American. :winkold: I must respectfully disagree with most Americans understanding that it is just a minority of the English who don't want Lerner to buy the club. But perhaps, that's because I'm in California, the Bay Area no less.
  11. Perhaps if Padfield hadn't resorted to slanderous, xenophobic tactics, more people on this board would be a little more fair-minded about him. What he has said to the media goes a long way to revealing his character and intentions IMHO. Well don't you think Learners tactics of pretending to pullout were a bit under hand? Pretended? It is well-documented that Ellis pissed him off, and he was ready to walk. Besides, if it was indeed a tactic, there is no real proof of that. There IS proof of Padfield's tactics, as we have actual quotes from the man.

  13. I agree with your comments Runetune and Blandy, but most Americans don't know this. And I'm fairly certain that most Americans will view Padfield's comments as simply anti-American, not anti-Bush or anti-American government. Many of us Yanks feel that because the USA has been so successful commercially, that many countries around the world automatically mistrust ALL our motives, whether politically or in business.
  14. This smacks of a desparate, last-minute attempt by Padfield to "talk with the fans". If Mr. Padfield really cared about what the fans wanted, he would know that most of them want Lerner, and would bow out gracefully, now.
  15. HAAAHAAA But seriously, I would say that most Americans, at least in my circle of influence really LOVE the English, but worry that the English don't love us back. It's almost as if we Americans have an inferiority complex. You guys (the English) are basically our parent country.
  16. Exactly thats what i am worried about , tell your Brothers and Sisters Cali , we love you yanks :winkold: The feeling is mutual. 8)
  17. Good question, BOF. To be completely honest, we in America feel that most of the rest of the world really do hate us, even our allies, some of it perhaps justified, much if it not. I personally know better, because I'm on this board a lot. I hate to say it though, I think the average American might think Padfield speaks for the majority of the English. That's why he pisses me off SO MUCH!!!
  18. Not well, trust me. It will be seen as small-minded, petty, xenophobic, insulting the the English intelligence, and desparate. I should know, because I am a Yank. :winkold:
  19. Not quite sure what to make of this, but it sounds a bit sinister. We'll have to wait and see. May the best consortium win.
  20. Those are my suspicions exactly. For the record, as an American, I am not siding with Lerner because he's American too. If he was any other nationality, with the same clout and ownership record, he'd still top my list. There, now I feel better.
  21. I have no idea, but like you said its fairly obvious that they are all in it for the MONEY. I just hope that all the bidders plans are fully scrutinised to ensure that none pose a risk to the long term future of AVFC. Problem is we have to trust a certain someone to ensure this and I will not hold my breath. I'm with you all the way there.
  22. Heat of the moment. Perhaps 'smear' is overstating it. But by all accounts, Lerner will let the football people do the footballing, and he'll provide the money. Not a bad plan in my book.
  23. Are we to conclude that Neville's intentions are entirely honorable, ie not about the investment?
  24. I'm all ears! Do carry on! Well, you know, being from California and all.
  25. Oh what they said about Glazier is definitely true. But, call me jaded, I think anyone, including Lerner, who's corner I happen to be in, is about the money. That is not to say that anyone who takes over would do a poor job. But to smear Lerner's intentions because he's American kind of gets my panties in a knot. Oops! I think I said too much.
