  1. I don't come on here very often anymore but Trent that post summed up my thoughts perfectly

I know Gabby's limitations, everybody does.

But generally speaking I find some of the attitudes towards Gabby infuriating if I'm honest.

Here is a guy who is truly one of us, if he hadn't been lucky enough to make it he would have been sitting next to one us at a game on a Saturday if he could saved enough from working at Domino's. Yet he doesn't feel the need to shout about it, to play on it or try and cash in on it or curry favour with it  like oh I don't know.... our former captain.

But more than that this is a guy who has made more the 300 appearances for us, is our leading PL scorer and has a 1 in 4 ratio despite being misused by a progression of managers. A guy who in better times, with better players around him was an exciting player and who in terms of games against Small Heath should be considered a bit of hero.

Before people start typing furiously about his limitations, I know them as I said everybody does.

But at least Gabby gives a shit, he genuinely does and that isn't something you can say about everyone who pulls in a fat weekly wage. Watch the cup final back, if you can bear it, Gabby is the only guy in that second half who looked like he cared. Gabby was shouting at Benteke when he couldn't be arsed to mark on a corner any more. Sherwood ripped into the players after the game about their attitude and has spent the summer trying to replace just about every one of them while making Gabby club captain, which should at least make people pause for thought.

I'll say another  thing about Gabby. Aside from some potent swimmers and inability to wear a rain coat when do you ever hear Gabby's name in the press, picture in the papers or as the source of tittletattle or rumour.

He isn't the way getting pissed ala Collins, he isn't the one walking off the pitch laughing when you've just got hammered ala Dunne the prick. He isn't the one more interested in shopping ala N'Zogbia or cars like Carew or bitching and moaning when he isn't in the team. He doesn't 'pretend' to be injured either like some others....

No Gabby for all his limitations (see I'm using that word again so please don't feel the need to tell me what they are) has plenty of positives about him.

Should he be in the starting line up? No, almost certainly not. Should he get stick from the fans? Absolutely bloody not.

  2. The thing is he might not want to sign a new deal at the moment but he might be loyal enough to stay for this season.

I would prefer this to be honest, give him time to access his options next summer and who knows we may have been taken over by then and be in a better position to offer him a better deal.

  3. I must admit i was like others saying you should support through thick and thin etc.  This is my 20th season with one now since i was 10, i threatened in the last few seasons not to get one but always have done out of blind faith and love for the club.  Now though i think this season that's it for me with regards to renewing, i am not saying i will never go again, i will pick and choose my games and feel a lot better for it.   Yeah it will be hard and weird not been at every home game (its actually harder not to go than go to a match, those who have been going long enough, had one long enough, live local etc will know this feeling) but until i see some sort of plan from the club that we're going in the right direction than i think i am making the right decision.

There just doesn't seem to be any direction at the club no more, it just seems like its survive on a cheap budget and nothing else matters.  i was supportive of lambert mainly because of wanting stability but now there can be no defending him after 18 losses in the premier league for the first time and the 10 home defeats in a league season in our history.  So that will be a new manager, another season of transition and who knows if we will get taken over so they could be working under the same conditions as lambert and if thats the case nothing will change.

Then there is the fact that they have gone up again, yeah mine has only gone up by £20 but with all the tv money we MIGHT be getting next season (if we manage to stay up) i can't see how they can justify a rise.  Most clubs TV money goes on quality signings and decent wages, ours clearly doesn't.

In a time when i'm getting older life and commitments change and i care about villa that much that it heavily effects my mood i am gonna take a step back next season pick and choose some games and see how i feel come half season ticket time.

  4. can see both sides to this one....

if the players had just walked down the tunnel and not bothered clapping the fans at all you would of had fans who went saying "we travelled all this to watch us lose and they couldn't be arsed to clap us" etc.  but then on the other side of things what are we mean't to do clap them off after a 4-1 defeat.

Hardly great though is, if you was captain of a club and clapped the away fans and got boos and abuse like that would you really feel like putting the effort in for those same fans the next week when a win is needed?

if i was one of our better players the first thing id be doing when the seasons over is handing in a transfer request and getting away from this rotten mess of a club asap.

  5. It is a bit mad that he aint gonna be doing the press conference but then again he could be sick of answering questions about funds and where our so called chairman is? questions the so called chairman should be answering.

  6. you took the word of a parady account lol only on villatalk.

i know, lets all present our opinions as facts on twitter and on here and let the papers pick up even more rubbish and print even more bullshit stories about us that are a load rubbish unsettling the club even more, great idea that.

  7. this forum is ridiculous and laughable at times, exactly why i dont come on here much anymore.

so he faked the injury because of the chance he missed....hmmm yeh right, was you watching the game??? you could visibly see him struggling to run after that knock. if he really didnt wanna play and missed that chance on purpose dont u think he would of went off straight away? as for the weimann playing on, he clattered into the keeper, yeh Bent did kind of too but you could see him land awkwardly on his knee which sometimes cause damage to ligaments more than collison with the keeper like weimann had.

  8. didn't have the best of games last night but does my head how quickly the fans around me get on his back and then because he ain't having the best of games start shouting "get bannan off the corners" when all of them were fine.

Think i read stat which says Bannan has created the most chances for us this season and then one from last night which said Bannan had made the most key passes in the match.

Just stick with him, young players are bound to feel the pressure in matches where we are expected to win. This isn't 1982 anymore.

  9. interesting note at the bottom of garth crooks article about his team of the week which Bannan was in.

"Did you know? Bannan has created 12 scoring chances for his Aston Villa colleagues this season - more than any of his team-mates"

Having Bannan in the team = more creativity, so he needs to be kept in there for me.

  10. Speaking as someone who'll need visibility on their bike come the Winter months but who doesn't like the feel of high-vis wear, it's brilliant. :thumb:

i actually wore mine on my bike the other day lol.

i like it but saying that i'd wear any top that had the villa badge on. It could be worse, i read the other day that small heath are having a pink 3rd shirt

  11. have to say that green one is really really ugly. i thought it was ok at first but the more i see it the more i hate it. think this will probably be one of the worst selling away kits in history

i think the polo shirts are really good though. might get one of them

looks like your wrong about the away shirt been the worst selling away kits in histroy. Says here that we have had best ever sales figures for the away shirt. Popular 'Petrov 19' tops shirt sales in Villa Park Stores

Good to see that petrov's the best selling shirt for names and numbers too.
