  1. Karim El Ahmadi is on his way to Aston Villa. The top performers from the Premier League, in turn, some 2.8 million euros to Feyenoord.

The impending transfer of El Ahmadi supplies in Rotterdam double feelings. The Moroccan was namely at the point to extend his contract. Feyenoord was happy to continue to the player who last year developed the absolute playmaker in the team of Ronald Koeman.

At the same time it was his first good year after in 2008 he came to five million over FC Twente. Partly because of injuries took El Ahmadi never normal level. He frequently clashed with coach Mario Been, while his club mid-season 2010/11 to Al Ahli in Dubai let go.

If it was at Feyenoord was lying El Ahmadi stayed there, but the midfielder himself was determined to return to Rotterdam to show "that he is still one of the best midfielders of the Netherlands'. Coach Ronald Koeman regrets the departure of El Ahmadi, but realizes that Feyenoord a transfer fee of 2.8 million can not refuse. (Martijn Krabbendam)

  2. Just had an email from the club about that.

Had the bloody nike logo on the promotional material, lol.

Nike deal doesn't run out until 31st May I think?

Granted, but seems a bit out of place on advertising the details of our new kit launch surely?

  3. Please no...

Former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today emerged as a shock candidate for the vacant Villa manager’s position after contact with chief executive Paul Faulkner.

The Express & Star can reveal that McCarthy, who is on holiday in Florida at the moment, had a telephone conversation with Faulkner late last night as Villa started to widen their search to replace Alex McLeish, who was sacked by owner Randy Lerner earlier this week.

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on McCarthy replacing McLeish in the Villa Park hot-seat from 25-1 to 11-8 favourite, although the claret and blues have yet to formally interview any potential candidates.

Villa fans have reacted with alarm to speculation linking them with another manager tainted by relegation so soon after McLeish.

But it is understood McCarthy has been admired from within the Villa hierarchy for some time for his ability to recruit young and hungry players on a relatively low budget.

McCarthy has been out of work since he was sacked by Wolves in February after five-and-a-half years at Molineux and has turned down opportunities at Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town in a bid to secure a return to a Premier League club.

The 53-year-old would appeal to some of the senior figures in the Villa dressing room including defender Richard Dunne, who was handed his Ireland debut by McCarthy, and goalkeeper Shay Given having worked with both at international level.

Should he land the job McCarthy would also be in a prime position to cherry-pick the best players from Wolves’ squad following their relegation, including winger Matt Jarvis and striker Steven Fletcher.

Other possible job contenders include Norwich’s Paul Lambert and Wigan’s Roberto Martinez.

Faulkner revealed his phone has been “going non-stop”. “I think there’s an awful lot of reasons you would want to come to Villa,” said Faulkner.

“Our stadium is one of the best in the country, we have a fantastic owner who loves the club , the club’s history, the fans are phenomenal – why would you not want to come here?”

  4. I suppose the West Ham kit for this season isn't that bad. Take off the yellow lines and the macron man from the shoulder and it's fine. The quality doesn't look too bad either. Maybe it won't be so bad?

  5. Given would not have been my choice as keeper. He's a good keeper when he's fit but there in lies the problem. Checking his wiki stats since 2005/6 he has only played one full season (2009/2010). The rest of the time he's managed approx half a season on average. Our second choice keeper isn't good enough as back up if Shay once again can only manage half a season.

Fingers crossed that he stays fit. :|

He played a full season in 2008/09 as well, half for newcastle and half for city. In fact since the turn of the century he's only had two league seasons cut short due to injury 06/07 and 07/08.

  6. I suppose it all boils down to how much we have to pay. Given on the cheap is a good signing. At the prices quoted, it's bad business.

    This.

If money is tight, then I would much rather us get a comparatively cheap signing in Given, who will serve us well in the short term, thus freeing up money for other signings, N'Zogbia etc.
