Hibs defender Efe Ambrose has invoked a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free... linked with Cardiff, I wonder if we've been looking at him.

Yep

Let's face it, in a difficult run of the last 5 games we should have taken all 15 points, against decent sides. If we can keep up our form and it's not just a purple patch (I've seen nothing to suggest that it is), take another 10+ points from our next 5 games (Stoke H Leeds H Swansea A Preston A QPR H) and strengthen in January (which we inevitably will), the following 4 games are Wigan, Hull, Ipswich and Reading, all of whom have lost 10 games already this season. Everything could look very different by the start of February. For now we might as well take it a game at a time starting with Stoke, who are on a decent run themselves but are no Derby/Boro/WBA.

Getting uncomfortably excited about this one. We've got the better coach, are in better form, have a fresher team, a win would be huge for the season. Interesting to hear how big Dave set up differently against Leeds and smashed them so should be a good tactical contest. Suspect we'll see at least 4 goals, and it could come down to simply who's more clinical on the night. Hopefully we can edge it

his minimum release figure will be a figure that punishes us for not getting promoted, it wont reflect his value it will be less, it will in effect be a figure that says if we dont go up he will be leaving, which i personally think is fair enough
and if we dont put a figure in then why should he sign anything? private assurances dont mean a thing, he must know that he has a fair few years left to earn a lot of money, he doesnt need to sign anything right now to get that money this year, tie himself down to a 4 year deal on £40k a week is worth £8m, signing nothing a leaving on a free in 2 years time signing a £60k a week deal somewhere else is worth exactly the same, where is the incentive?
To help his club get a better price in the event that the biggest clubs are willing to go well over 30 million (or even higher) to get him?

His release clause should be nowhere near 25 million. If he keeps improving the way he is there will be a bidding war come the end of the season should we not go up. IMO there shouldn't be a figure written into the contract, only a private assurance that they won't stand in his way and won't be unreasonable. That way if he improves enough to call the attention of the biggest clubs they'd be more likely to splash out millions more to get their man.

Rubbish. He owes us at least a year of decent performances after we have nurtured him and put up with his shite for the last few years. If he leaves, I hope his career tanks.
Completely agree. One more full decent season and push to take us up, if that doesn't work then he can leave.

How would Sawiris have 'intervened' given that he would have been the one sanctioning the 25 million fee in the first place? Sounds like bullshit to me

Really wouldn't be surprised to see Jedinak quietly leave, he's on a wedge and will still be fresh in people's minds from the WC

FWIW Paddy Power would not give me a price on Bryan joining when I requested it just now.
I'd be surprised if any bookie took a request a bet on a signing

I’d think we have done brilliantly for a guy with 2 years left on his contract. No championship player has been sold for 30m before that I am aware of?
Sissoko from Newcastle, also to Spurs. Grealish is better and the market has inflated even since then.
-
To put Grealish's fee into context, Boro are selling Ben Gibson to Burnley for FIFTEEN million. Anything under double that is an embarrassing offer for Jack.

From what I can tell on social media and other sites, McGinn and Neves are pretty much the top 2
