They have their own version (Douyin) and as a teacher at a Chinese college, and can tell you the level of addiction is very high. There also isn't a lot of reading for pleasure culture here. Reading is for school work or some sort of self-improvement, rarely for fun.

Everyone's trying to make their own model citizens.

The government has ordered schools in England not to use resources from organisations which have expressed a desire to end capitalism.

Department for Education (DfE) guidance issued on Thursday for school leaders and teachers involved in setting the relationship, sex and health curriculum categorised anti-capitalism as an “extreme political stance” and equated it with opposition to freedom of speech, antisemitism and endorsement of illegal activity.

Though the Chinese limits on Douyin screen time, for the under 14s particularly, might suggest to me that when young minds are developing it's not entirely down a doomscrolling instant gratification path?

Must be a tricky business making drones that are both compliant and capable of sustained concentration from a diverse gene pool.

How is Liu Sixin regarded over there?

Was very surprised at how down TBP was on the Cultural Revolution, but I've no idea how that period is portrayed in modern China?

Only read the first one. I'm told the following books are critical of a divided West vs the more focused one party China in regard to the impending disaster.

... I mentioned upthread, that Horace Andy was £14 new, rereleased at the same time, a Bowie album, £37. The guy is dead, the record already in the can, so someone is being a greedy prick.

The Tory Brexit morons getting us all f**ked over makes for a multiple pile-up.

Is that his son/inheritor of Sooty/Sweep and Sue with him?

Had assumed that too, but his name's Richard Cadell. Matthew chose him as his successor. Later he'd buy Sooty outright.

In June 2008 (Sooty's 60th Anniversary), Richard, together with his brother David, reportedly paid close to £1 million for the global rights for the Sooty brand through their new company, Cadells Ltd.
