Then why does it look like lambert has no problems selling him? If he can have such an influence on a team winning why didn't he play more? Why aren't top teams coming in for him?

He doesn't fit our style of play. We're a very dynamic team and Bannan isn't very dynamic. However, having said that Bannan did contribute to our victories, to say he didn't is harsh.

Sorry I don't care what style you have.

If you have a big impact on a team winning games then there will always be a place for you in the team.

You might not care about the style of play a player has, but the fact of the matter is the impact a player has is dependent on the type of player they are. Leon Britton is a big part of Swansea's game, but put him in our squad and he wouldn't nearly have as much as an impact, conversely Sylla makes a big impact for us because of his athleticism and ability to break down play, however he wouldn't get a sniff in Swansea's team because he isn't technical enough. The style of play has a massive impact on how much of an impact one has.

As for Bannan although he contributed to our victories, he unfortunately doesn't fit our style of play going forward, which is why he is getting sold.

Also the fact that none of them led to any goals suggests, I wouldn't describe them as cock ups

    That's just ridiculous.

If Guzan dropped a simple catch and it fell to the opposition who fluffed an easy chance are you saying it wasn't a cock up?

The fact it didn't lead to a goal is nothing to do with bannan, it's either poor play from the opposition or good play from another one of our players. It doesn't change the initial cock up.

    A ridiculous argument.

Okay, fair point, I'll accept that point is invalid. However if none of these 'cock ups' led to goals, is it really that significant? With Bannan the cock ups rarely happen and when they do it hasn't changed the course of the game. I accept that if he keeps making mistakes it will lead to goals, however as I've said, his cock ups are few and far between so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Bannan gets treated and judged unfairly on this thread. His mistakes are emphasized because he is a scapegoat(which all stems from the drink driving incident).

  4. I fail to see how Bannan has made the most 'cock ups'. He made one big mistake against Liverpool, WHICH DIDN'T LEAD TO A GOAL! But yet people just extrapolate that one mistake. Like I've said before, I can count 2 mistakes against Liverpool, which led to clear cut chances, one mistake against Reading which led to a clear cut chance(but not a goal). He gave a penalty away against man city, when we were already 3-0 down. Apart from that, I cannot remember any major 'cock ups' he did. Also the fact that none of them led to any goals suggests, I wouldn't describe them as cock ups(as it connotes a monumental and big mistake), to me they were just merely 'mistakes'.

Con, what are your thoughts on Westwood?

Do you think Bannan is the better player?

I'm not saying Bannan is Zidane, not same game at all, just an example to illustrate you can't always directly compare.

So Bannan isn't Zidane, not because he isn't as good, but because it's not the same game?

I'm not saying Bannan is Zidane because Bannan is shit and Zidane was good.

Man you scrutinize everything he says. I think it is clearly implied he doesn't think Bannan is Zidane because of ability as well as the style of play.

  6. As a footballer he isn't the best technically, his link up play is improving but still distinctly average and he hasn't got blistering pace. But he is just so important to us and how we play. You can easily make out a case he is more vital to us than Benteke is. What Andi brings is just pure directness and dynamism and it is his clever runs which gives Benteke and Gabby space. He has fantastic movement, I think back to Gabby's first goal against Norwich, as Gabby was making the run at the heart of the Norwich defence Weimann made a clever run across a defender, closest to Gabby forcing him out of position. This gave Gabby time and space to get a clean shot off at goal. Weimann does this constantly, he is just so busy and lively and I am made up that he has signed an extension.

I remember him giving Matty Lowton a hard time when we played them.

Hardly a benchmark for scouting players. For all of Lowtons brilliance going forward he hardly covered himself with glory with his defending abilities last season.

True, but I just distinctly remember Lowton having a harder time against Robson Kanu, than he did in comparison to most other wingers.

  8. I remember him giving Matty Lowton a hard time when we played them. He'll be useful, a wide man not afraid to take players on and can go up front. Certainly wouldn't be against him coming, however we should focus on a centre back before we sign a more advanced players.

  9. My assessment of Bannan's performance yesterday was he was alright, to say he was 'woeful' for giving the ball away was harsh, especially when every Scottish player gave the ball away consistently, even there f******* goal came from Maloney being tackled. Bannan did a lot of defensive work, and did it well, he never allowed Dario Srna any time in dangerous positions, always helped Whitaker and got a few tackles. He wasn't to impressive that game, but he did a job and he did it well. Wasn't really his type of game, didn't suite his style of play but I didn't think he was too bad.

SSN says that him to Swansea is basically a done deal for £2 million. Good deal for both parties, in Swansea's continental system, Bannan will thrive and we make a good profit on Barry.

Europa League football next season then? Agree that it is the right deal for everyone.

As for the assists, FPL shows Bannan has 3 assists, Westwood 7. Westwood has much more game time than Bannan this season, which will account for some of the different - if not all.

Celtic interested as well apparently, Bannan could be a champions league player :P

  12. He's frustrating. For every 1 thing he does well, he seems to do 2 things badly. Ultimately the reason why he isn't playing is because Andi Weimann is just a lot better than him.

  13. Bannan captained the team against Portland Timbers, I believe in last seasons friendly.

I have seen Bannan animated on the field, against QPR when we almost conceded just after Benteke scored, Bannan was screaming at the right back to concentrate as he was beaten easily by Hoilett. He does get vocal from time to time and he does work hard so I can see the point about him being a good leader.

    We're not that awful

The season as a whole was awful. That is easily lost as all are optimistic because we avoided relegation and finished the season with some excellent performances (coincidently after Bannan got dropped from the side).

I don't know things were looking up ever since the second half the Newcastle home game. We were still playing well whilst Bannan was in the team.

Bannan has similar attributes to Charlie Adam in the sense that they both love to ping a ball, great left foots and superb technique. Wouldn't surpise me if he went on loan to them this year but i agree Holloway was a nob to us. He would suit Celtic aswell though.

Bannan is great at pinging the ball to Louis Suarez!

Give it a rest, it was 1 mistake. Get over it :L

Me?  :)  I got over it the minute Bannan was dropped (thank god!)  As for Bannan?  :(  Well he obviously didn't get over it because he became even crapper still after that monumental error if ofcourse  it was even possible to become even worse than he already was?

The facts speak for themselves, No Bannan = No Relegation.

'monumental error' did it lead to a goal? Also did he play after the Liverpool game? No. So we can't judge if he's improved, can we?

As for the 'No Bannan = No Relegation' that would be true if Bannan played no part in this season and in previous seasons got us relegated, but actually he did play a part in this season(and quite a significant part for that matter) and he's never got us relegated.

  17. I don't see why people are so against Lescott, the boy is a quality centre back. He starts for England and had a very good Euro 2012 campaign. Had a bit of an off season last year but he'll definitely improve our defence. However he won't come as we won't be able to reach his wage demands.

  18. I'm reminded of something Brian Little used to say, when judging a player - he said that he would look at their bad points and decide if he could tolerate that in his team.

With Bannan he's definitely a gifted player. He can pass well, he's got good feet and he works hard. What's let him down massively this season is his judgement as to when to try an ambitious pass, and when to just retain possession by playing it simple. Mistakes in judgement that have put us in danger too often.

Obviously his corner taking attracted a lot of negative comment, and fair enough he's not really delivered from corners and free kicks as he is capable of.

I'm not sure whether he's blown his chance, but if he hasn't, then he's a lucky so and so.

See I don't think he's put us in danger that often, he's put us in danger as much as the likes of Westwood, Sylla and Delph have. Fair enough the boy had a stinker against Liverpool, but over the course of the season no mistake really stands out. I remember 1 against Reading which didn't lead to a goal and that's it really. I think his decision for when to go long has improved dramatically but as you say, still needs work.

Ultimately the failure for Bannan is he doesn't suite the philosophy and style of play we adopted. Although we do play attractive football at times, we are very much a dynamic athletic team. Bannan isn't really athletic is he? His strengths is his passing, and his crossing. I think in a team like Swansea, being apart of a midfield 3 and a team which play total football, Bannan will thrive. If not, Bannan can do a job out wide, if a team has 1) a marauding full back and 2) often bosses possession and has a relatively slow build up.

Thinking behind Spearing is we haven't really got much meat in our midfield and Spearing brings that. I wouldn't be against the signing of Spearing, he could do a job giving our defence much needed protection.

    No better than herd though.

Probably not. But we'll see :L. I wouldn't be thrilled if he joined, but I think he could do a job if the situation is right.
