  1. Saying something sensible and reasonable after a result like that takes some doing Gaz, but I reckon you've nailed it.

I'm going to go and cook a curry and try to blank this from my mind.

Thanks Rich. The events of the last few months have taught me the truth in the statement "it's just a game". I'm gutted by the result, don't get me wrong, but I won't be getting too exercised by the whole thing.

Aye, I've said 'it's only a game' so many times in the last hour, it's become like a mantra.

Then I have a quick sing of The Wheels on a Bus with the little one, remember that British summer time starts tomorrow, have a good sniff of this curry (which is going to be a cracker), open a cold one and realise it's true.

  2. Not a lot to say really.

I did, however, think Sidwell was our best player today. But being the winner of the day's "Tallest Dwarf" competition isn't a huge honour.

Friedel looked like he couldn't be arsed any more by the end. Luke Young looked knackered after 20 minutes and his concentration went from that point. Warnock was below average. Collins and Dunne were clumsy in the extreme.

Ashley Young put in one good cross for the goal. Apart from that, didn't really offer much. James Milner had the first touch of a rapist all day. Petrov was a rabbit in the headlights. Sidwell put himself about well and, like I said, was our tallest dwarf today. Gabby ran about a bit but looked heavy.

John Carew got a nice goal and tried his best to do the lone striker job, but Chelsea's centre backs enjoyed nicking the ball off him whenever he tried to hold it up.

One of two things will happen now. The team will feel sorry for themselves, blame as many external factors as they possibly can, curl up and die. Or else they will look at themselves in a realistic and critical light and seek redemption in the remaining games.

I hope they choose the latter.

  3. Small just got shafted.

Remind me to avoid British judges at all costs

Serves him right for wearing that pimp suit on the way into the ring, and calling himself 'Sugar Ray, Clay, Jones Jnr' or whatever when he is clearly not fit to lace any of their boots.

He can do whatever he wants, doesn't give judges the right to take food out of his mouth and a title from around his waist.

Indeed he can. Doesn't stop me thinking he's a cock and tittering when he gets fetched down a peg or two either

  5. we have drawn 7 out of the 10 games in 2010 - unbeaten is irrelevent, this is not good enough.

3 wins in 13 says it all. Once again we choke when it matters.

    Spot on.

    West Ham- DRAW

    Arsenal- DRAW

    Manure- DRAW

    Wolves- DRAW

    Sunderland- DRAW

    West Ham- WIN

    Arsenal- LOSE

    Manure- LOSE

    Wolves- WIN

    Sunderland- WIN

The bottom sequence gains you four more points over a season. We're back to what we were under Gregory, content to draw half our games during a season as it looks good to see we have a ten or so game unbeaten run, it ultimately gets you nowhere if you don't win enough games.

    West Ham- LOSE

    Arsenal- LOSE

    Manure- LOSE

    Wolves- LOSE

Sunderland- LOSE, and half the team die in a flesh-eating virus outbreak

    West Ham- DRAW

    Arsenal- DRAW

    Manure- DRAW

    Wolves- DRAW

    Sunderland- DRAW

The bottom sequence is better than the top.

Or, to put it another way, it's better to win than draw, and it's better to draw than lose.

In other news, the Pope is a big beleiver in transubstantiation, and Gentle Ben is no stranger to a poo in the pines.

In all seriousness though, beating West Ham, Wolves and Sunderland, and losing to Man U and Arsenal would just have people being merely satisfied that we're winning against 'lesser' opposition, and kicking off that we can't compete with the elite.

The reality is we have proved this season that we can compete with the elite. We've been in a cup final, and at least a cup semi final. We've put top four sides to the sword. We have also, disappointingly, not done enough against mediocre opposition on occasion. Until recently, the latter lows were the norm, but the former highs weren't. That (and the obvious chairmen difference) is why it's not like how it was under Gregory, and why I'm happy to be a Villan.

  7. always expect the worst and you wont be dissapointed.... the only way to support villa

If this was the worst thing you could have expected I can only assume you haven't been watching the Villa for long.

If you'd have said 'prepare to be occasionally disappointed, and you won't be disappointed' then I'd be entirely in agreement.

We've been to Wembley, we're going there again, and we're still in the running for 4th spot. I'm happy to be a Villan.

  8. Pretty dire again and not much effort at trying to run it until Foden came on.

No worries on that score, we'll soon train that adventurous spirit out of him.

That's it for me Snowy. I think England do have the players, but not the mentality to let them express themselves. It's the old Leicester approach of stick it up the jumper, kick the points and grind it out. That's OK if it works, but very one dimensional if it doesn't.
