  1. It would be good if people could stop ridiculously over-exaggerating each other's posts and just get behind the lad.

Whether he is an instant hit or takes a while to get going he will be neither the saviour of our season nor the final nail in the coffin.

In the end he is just a kid making a big step up in his career to one of the world's greatest clubs - so good luck to him!

     Well put...

    Welcome Sylla.... and good luck!

  2. Good idea. Let's wait until we have been relegated before we get off our arses and attempt to do something. Like your style, you will go far.

You're right... lets protest tonight, get Lerner out tomorrow and appoint a new owner (all in the same day), giving us enough time to buy a new squad.....

Or even better still.... lets spew bile at each game about how we want the owner gone for the rest of the season, providing a great playing environment for our overachieving

    squad....

    Win win!!

  3. I dont have an issue with the levels of investment from our owner. I do think he has been poorly advised over the years (thats not to say he should not carry some of the blame).... which has clearly resulted in his reluctance to spunk more money into the club at this time - its easy to forget money was spent in the Summer!

Buying new players MAY help with the clubs current plight... but it is no guarantee that we will not get relegated this season.

IF and it is a big IF we dont get relegated this season, with the current squad we have.... would this make the owner wiser in your eyes? Or would you prefer he spends more money at this time, get relegated (as I say above, its no guarantee for survival) and result in the club being in a worse situation in the championship?

Im not saying I like where we are as a club.... and I would like some new faces to boost moral/quality within the club....

Personally... Lerner out should be left to the last day of the season.... IF relegation is reality! Lets not add to the circus at this crucial time of year.

  4. Why have we imploded so badly over the past month or so? We were not doing too badly before Christmas (not great... But not awful) and with a couple of wins could have been mid table.

After last season, I did not think it would get worse.... And like many on here, was happy to see the back of Collins, with Warnock/Hutton being shown the door.... But do I wish they were back playing for us? A bit!!

I've always been a proud Villa supporter and have always stayed positive and looked for the good points. Really struggling now... I hate to see the club I've supported (and always will) for 30 year become a joke.... I could live with going down, if the team was being outplayed or we appeared to want to fight for a survival. But we are not, we are just giving away every game!

We don't just need new faces to boost depth/quality/experience, we need them to boost moral! We look beat from the kick off... All just waiting for the first corner/set peice to witness the next goal to be conceded. I don't think the youngsters bought in are as dire as it currently appears... I think (hope) it's down to there moral being shot to shit!

Without new players coming in, to boost every aspect of our game, I can't see us getting another win.. May hold on to get a couple of draws... I would be happy with a clean sheet...

It's a sad time to be a Villa supporter...

  5. After today....

Going guess around 12th.... bit higher if we can stay confident and our new signings shine in their first year!

Yesterday, I could not disagree with those of you suggesting we would still be on zero after four games.... we are on one point after three.... Im now hoping for Four points from Four games!

How many seasons have we started well then just slowly slipped down the table after Christmas! I hope we have now HAD our time at the bottom and only move up and get stronger as our players get more games under their belts and begin to gel as a unit!

    In Lambert I trust.....

  6. Just started to right this post after seeing our starting line....

Was going to say im very optimistic for the season ahead.... during which time, we have just gone and scored!

Granted... we could go on to lose... but, I was happy with the way the starting line up was shaping up... bench looked pretty good... and still have Westwood and Benteke to come in!

Just hope the 'Supporters' and get the chip off their shoulders and 'Support' the team!

  7. Welcome Ashley.... could be our best buy of the window?? time will tell....

Looking forward to this season even more (not looking forward to this weekend much.... willing to accept this is a working progress).

  8. We have a better LB than last year, we have a better RB than last year, we have a better CB than last year, we have better striking options than last year and if the deal for Westwood goes through along with KEA will have far better energy and mobility in the middle of the park than last year.

That means we now have a better team than last year in almost every respect and we have a better manager.

This has been done by spending £20m, course we could have spent that money on one or two players and perhaps got better players in those two areas but then of course we'd still be **** in all the other areas.

Not really sure what people want but this has been a good transfer window and not only do we have a better team the last year but one with longevity and one that can be added to because we havent spent a fortune in doing so now all we need is all the fans to get onside.

Great post.... could not agree more!

From where we ended last season, to where we are now (in terms of squad).... I would say its been a very good window!

  9. The first tweet put of no where literally said 'Aston Villa Aston Villa haha'

    Not quite....

    Jay Reddington ‏@jdravfc

    @Frimpong26AFC frimpong got petroved #avfc

This guy commented on a pic of Frimpong getting booted in the head by Petrov....

Frimpong then tweeted 'Aston Villa Aston Villa haha'....

Which then started the random speculation.....

No, wrong order. Frimpongs 'haha' tweet was what prompted the guy to send him the Petrov tweet.

True... but the original pic was before!

either way, it was related to the pic - not transfer speculation!!!!

  10. I think the chances of any manager refusing to spend money is extremely low.

And i think it's even less likely when that manager has joined a side that just survived and has performed terribly for its first two games.

    Extremely low..... but not impossible?

We are also assuming that Lambert now want to spend 10+mil on an individual and offer them 60K+ a week.... as that fits the young and hungry profile he set out?

Adam for example - did not want to take a pay cut and wanted 2mil to leave Lpool (reported - may not be true).... sounds more young and greedy... not hungry!

    - I would like Adam to sign for us btw -

You may well be right though, Lerner may be sat on a pot of gold that he does not want to share - spoilt rich kids....

    :winkold:

  11. 2 days for Lerner to show he wants anything more than to just survive.

I said this in another thread.... but how do we (you) know that its Lerner saying NO to spending?

Lambert may not see the value in some of the 'Adam's' / 'Johnsons's' of this world? He may not want to spend (what could be a large transfer pot) on these players....

Its not normally been an issue of Lerner spending his money.... its been the manager not spending it wisely!

Granted, what ever the reason for lower than expected (hoped) spending is a risk.... but I find it funny that this risk is definitely Lerners doing..... might be.... might not?

  12. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/aug/29/aston-villa-genk-christian-benteke

Aston Villa are prepared to end their interest in signing the Belgium international Christian Benteke unless Genk reduce their demands.

The Midlands club have submitted a straight €7m (£5.5m) offer for the 21-year-old striker, which is an improvement on their previous bid of €6m up front and a further €1m to follow in add-ons, and have made it clear that they will walk away from the deal if Genk continue to play hard-ball. Genk are asking for double Villa's £5.5m valuation, which has frustrated Benteke, who failed to report for training on Wednesday and seems unlikely to feature in the Europa League game Lucerne on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Middlesbrough left-back Joe Bennett has joined Villa on a four-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.75m. "Joe's a really good player, young and hungry to succeed and he's exactly the type of player we want here at the football club," said the Villa manager, Paul Lambert. "There's no doubt in my mind that he will thrive in this environment and he fits in exactly with what we are trying to build here."

In a rather surprising move, Villa are also expected to announce in the next 24 hours that they have signed the 21-year-old Chesterfield forward Jordan Bowery in a £500,000 deal.

  13. KEA for Petrov

Well put, the players we've brought in will certainly apply themselves better than the guys who they replaced (minus Stan)

Agreed... but from first impressions, KEA could be a great signing for the price!

I guess my hope from our dealings so far is, that these up-n-comers will push the the remaining 'experienced' player in the squad to show what they are really worth.... and if if they dont step up to the plate, Lambert does need seem like the kind of manager who wants to carry dead weights!

  14. So....

    Lambert has managed to swap:

    Lowton for Hutton

    Bennett for Warnock

    Vlaar for Collins

    KEA for Petrov

    Benteke for Heskey (hopefully)

For me, this is a successful window.... plus the addition of Holman.... if McShite could keep us up with the players and playing mentality he had.... lets just sit back and enjoy what Lambert is trying to do...

Couple more signings would go amiss either

  15. he may not be given mega bucks to spend unforetunately....

Do we (you) know that for certain?

It could well be that Lerner has said to 'big buys'..... but it could also be that PL does not see the value in some of the 'expensive players' being banded around? He is a Scot after all.... always want value for money!

PL may also be waiting for January when the new European scouting comes into its own before shooting his load.....
