Agreed. I don't think the pear of idiots we have on the books in Gabby and Richards are helping him though.

That goal he scored against Leicester last year was a peach though.

    Just caught it plum!

    ‘HAPPY TO BE HERE’

Ciaran Clark has signed a five-year deal at St James’ Park.

The 26-year-old has joined for an undisclosed fee and is clearly relishing the challenge ahead at Newcastle.

"Newcastle is a massive club so I'm really happy to be here," said Clark.

"Importantly, it is a club that is moving in the right direction and pushing for the right things, so I'm really excited to now be a part of that.

"Things seem to have progressed really quickly over the last few days but I'm delighted to have got it all done and be a part of this squad."

Is that a dig at the club?

"Andy Townsend is not returning to Villa Park as the club's new director of football. A newspaper report today said that the former Villa captain was set for the post, working with the newly-constituted football board.

"But there will be no DOF job. Instead, there will be a head of football operations and it's earmarked for Adrian Bevington, who has recently joined the football board, comprising himself, chairman David Bernstein, Lord King and Brian Little.

"Townsend's opinions were sought by the board a few weeks ago, but Little was chosen instead as the football expert with a wealth of playing and managerial experience - including both roles in his time at Aston Villa."

  4. I dont understand the stick that Hutton and Sanchez get above everyone else. I know our team is seriously lacking in ability and confidence but Hutton at least tried to go forward with the ball and tried to make something happen and I would happily keep him next season in the Championship. Sanchez, while limited, I felt did a good job of defending and breaking up the Chelsea play during the first half, particularly the first 25 minutes or so where I thought we were on top (although I accept didnt look like they were going to actually score) and again I would keep him next year. The rest can all go.

Who is coaching Gil to just head for the byline regardless of the situation. He seem to head down blind alleys continuously. Westwood was anonymous until Grealish came on.

On the protest I thought it was effective and (although I dont condone throwing stuff onto the pitch) continued to be effective for the last ten minutes with the paper airplanes. The reality was that after spending money to watch the game, most people seemed to get more pleasure watching the paper planes in the last 10 mins that watching the actual game. Huge cheers from the Holt End when a plane from the top makes it onto the pitch reflects the fans views of the effort given by most of our players.

    FOOTBALL

Holland international Ron Vlaar is excited at a possible switch to Aston Villa. The Feyenoord defender, 27, held talks with Villa boss Paul Lambert over the weekend and admits it would be a "dream" to swap the Eredivisie for the Premier League.

He tells De Telegraaf newspaper: "I was on Sunday in Birmingham to have talks with Paul Lambert and left with a very positive impression. Joining Aston Villa would be a dream come true."

It he wants to come and they are letting him talk to us then what can stop it?
