Fantastic game and what an end to a week of Villa Football. As many said tough call on POTM but Watkins was unstoppable and pretty unselfish. Just wish he’d gotten a couple for the Golden Boot race.
Morgan Rogers immense and I can’t believe Tielemans and McGinn went the whole game. Tielemans endurance seems to have gone up so much in the last few months.

Colossus of Rhodes, Greece. Are you kidding me, your post raised our forum reading level?

Nah, think he just said that when the rule was unclear. Think it's all been cleared up and confirmed he's suspended now.
Might be. My take was we were going to talk to UEFA. I didn’t include the two lines before when Emery says he knows the rule and they are going to contest the yellow.
Emery
“I didn’t know this rule.
“But quickly they told me about this rule and now, of course, it’s very important for us and we are speaking with UEFA about this yellow card.
“It’s not exactly 100 per cent he’s not going to be for the next round, available to play.
“In the beginning I think it’s not, but we are in conversations with UEFA about it.
“And, of course, it was a little bit strange because it’s not usual.”

I’m pissed off he’s suspended for the 1st leg. The ref was an idiot and now he can’t play because he asked for a ball?
There has to be some way to remonstrate
Sounds like we are going to try and reverse it based on Emery’s interview today.

Wonder what the ref was telling him there.
“So, are you and Alisha back on? I’m asking for a friend not myself.”

Just watched Emi and Ollie’s response and such class. After Emi’s World Cup celebration you think it’s just going to go kaboom but he just douses it with respect and professionalism. Ollie’s that was when I was a kid but I’m all Villa now- WHAM! it’s going to take some editing to get that on message Sky.

Woo hoo I say! Woo hoo!
My stomachs still hurts but I have to say we were so calm and smart closing the game out after going 2-0.
Tough to pick a POTM but I gave it to Zaniolo for how strong he stayed, held up the ball. My issue has been him holding the ball too long and I started shouting pass it pass it but he surged forward, blew past the players and earned a great corner. Also, to stay on as long as he did with the ground covered was fantastic.
What a great game and weekend!

Also a hard game to pick man of the match. Some great moments and crazy moments. Bailey helped turn the game but that back pass scared me and Emi.

What a ride in the second half. Like everyone else, super happy with the win, the grit and standing up for team mates. Need to be smarter though when winning and just minutes to go. Love Emi but so lucky to not get red carded. He’s usually so good at provoking but not being provoked and he just got sucked in.
I’m mostly going to miss Kamara playing with Dougie vs Man Utd on Boxing Day. Set to watch with my Dad and kids (massive Villa fans) and my brother who became a Manure fan at the age of 11 because he couldn’t take the Villa rollercoaster. I’m guessing it will be Dougie and McGinn in the middle. We are just so better with McGinn a bit forward and free to deploy the butt as needed.

Play the B team, don't let some of the rest to travel. They could do without the journey

I understand the team needs a rest but travel the key players to get the result. MON sending that super weak team in the Europa with no one to come off the bench was one of his biggest tactical mistakes. Play Duran but have Watkins on the bench if we really need to cinch the result

I normally keep well away from the 'Match day Thread', but I felt I had to leave a comment today.
I watched the match on Sky with my son and two of my Grandsons and by half time I was a stressed out wreck. I spent the whole of the second half in the lounge on my own in front of a large wood burning stove with a bottle of ten year old Laphroaig whisky. I sipped it and sang songs from my Karaoke catalogue to drown out the cheers and groans coming from the TV room. When my son came and told me we'd won it was a huge draining relief.
I don't usually get stressed about games (win, lose or draw, as long as we've done our best I was happy), but since we've got up towards the top of the table the hope and desire has flooded back in.
Some years ago I had a life saving triple bypass operation after a couple of heart attacks, and I suspect the rest of this season is going to raise my my blood pressure considerably. Fortunately as a collector of excellent Whisky's I have a lot of good 'medication' to calm me down. Still if the worse happens, what a way to go. UTV !!!!!!
The high line and fan health issues have a corollary relationship. Exciting- yes! Dangerous for high blood pressure, nausea, vomiting and increased heart rate - also yes! Pass the whiskey please it’s going to be a long exciting season.

Pro: exciting attacking football packed with loads of goals
Con: my blood pressure rating by the end of the game and my dog’s anxiety as I yell “he’s got to be offside right!” a dozen times during the game.

Congratulations to Konsa. I was just saying during the Fulham game he is one of the most underrated, unmentioned great CB’s in the premier league. I also love how he is starting to push forward on the right occasions. He had a fantastic goal against Brentford in the summer series.

McGinn phenomenal. Refs decision for drop ball after watching VAR of ball to face bizarre. Would have loved 5-0 which we looked on course for the first 1/2 of the game but well played. Tielemans was much faster then I expected.

Please Martinez. Everything clicks better and the guy has said how much he wants to play for us in Europe. need to get on the front foot with this competition.

Great result. Bizarre reffing except for the red card. A win over Chelsea is always so savory.the fact Caicedo cost more than all our transfers is even better. The bottom three teams look so poor but I have a fantasy Chelsea get relegated straddled with all these long term deals.
We are definitely missing Tyrone Mings. Need someone to be vocal in that high back line .

I think we'll make one of two changes but still go strong.
Martinez
Cash.Konsa.Lenglet.Moreno
Dendonker.Tielemens.McGinn
Zaniolo.Watkins.Bailey
Edit - forgot we were allowed 11 players
I could see that but in a 4-2-3-1 with McGinn playing further forward.

I think he’s great to have in the mix. Different games need different players and I could see him being very useful against some of the teams in Europe.

Just went to an MLS game in Charlotte, NC. Charlotte FC with Ashley Westwood vs DC United with Benteke. Years later Westwood is still tidy in possession with no excitement. Makes me love our current team even more.

What’s this? I’m watching pregame coverage and the pundits keep talking about how dangerous Villa are, what a fun team to watch and how good Emery is?
What strange planet is this? Alternate reality?

The match is now listed on Paramount+ in the US
Paramount+ ! They are killing me, we have almost every stream service in the US (many of them to watch Villa) but not Paramount+. It even looks like you can get the Europa League on other platforms just not the Conference…
