  1. I'm running a 3000 meter cross country on Monday and have no idea 'how' to run it. I wouldn't normally do anything less than a 10k race and rarely go out do do less than 5k. How much faster should I be pushing myself to run?

I'm by no means a fast runner, my last half marathon a week ago was 1:59:35 (which I was very happy with). What is a realistic aim for a 3k?

As it's a 3k, go out as fast as you can. Worst case you have to hang on and slow down for the last 1k or so, but no point starting slow as there isn't enough distance to make up time at the end.

  2. It's the best fight that can be made at HW at the moment. Fury does have a chance, as he has good boxing skills and can use his jab. However like Dr P says he can also do stupid things and Cunningham knocked him down, so I just feel if Wlad gets a chance he will likely stop him. I think Wlad wins by stoppage in the later rounds.

When are we going to get Frampton v Quigg, it's been talked about forever, lets just get it signed!!

  3. Need/want to finally replace my Nexus 4, but what to replace it with?? One Plus Two being released later this month according to reports, or get a Nexus 6? Is there a new Nexus due later this year? Otherwise any other phones I should look at?

  4. After my first HM in 2014, continued to log the miles and got in some longer runs, following the advice on here from Darren and Andy. Knocked 9 minutes off my HM PB at the Liverpool half last month, was 20 seconds from being under 95 minutes.....next time maybe!! Anyway got a 10k this weekend, so PB hunting. However the main goal is Bournemouth marathon in October followed by Brighton marathon next year!!

  5. I went out for some runs in Australia when I was on holiday over there, always made sure I went early morning before it really warmed up to avoid the heat! Although saying that I do love running outside in the UK summer.

  6. You can run everyday, lots of people do it. However they won't be running 50km everyday as that will place a lot of stress on the body. However if you do run everyday, it needs to be at a low intensity. Personally I like to have a days rest in between runs.

  7. Technically his footwork is supreme. On top of that he has the sort of 'off balance' power that very few have (Kovalev is another example of this although their styles are different) - by that I mean he often doesn't need to have his feet obviously set in order to throw power punches that hurt you (e.g. see the Geale knockout). I think he opitimises the phrase 'heavy hands', some of the punches that hurt his opponents appear to be taps, and his jab is pretty destructive.

    He's a genetic freak.

Agree 100% with this, I thought Rubio might be able to drag it to at least 6 rounds as he started well, but GGG is just a beast.

  8. As Darren says, with a bit of distance training you would for sure.

Plans in place for my 'A' race next year as i have just booked my place in Maryland for Ironman no 2. Hope to knock some serious time off the one from July.

Good luck with the Ironman!! The speed of my shorter distances did improve alot while training for the half, so yes I think I just need to focus on some long runs to improve my HM time.

If you can do 20:18 5k you can do a 1.35 HM and 42 min 10k

Thanks, will revise the HM target to 1:35 then. Funny you should mention the 42 min 10k, as that is what I was hoping for when I do come to race a 10k.

  9. Really got into running this year, did my first half marathon (Birmingham) in just under 1:44, will be entering again next year hoping to go under 1:40. Plus will do some 10k races next year also.

Have got my 5k time down by almost 2 minutes, from just over 22 mins to 20:18, which I got this weekend.....need to get that under 20 mins next year!

Some good times on this thread though!

  10. Anybody else having issues with Google+ using loads of background data? Mine has used 0.9gb this month and it's never used anything remotely close to that before. I have sync photos set to only on WiFi, so that shouldn't be causing the problem.

I don't even use Google+, the only use I have is for the auto backup of photos.

  11. Saw the Price fight...oh dear, he needs to start again now. He won't be getting anywhere near the Klitchko's with performances like that. I can also see Fury getting KO'd if he faces Haye, after all Haye hits much harder than Cunningham who also put Fury down.

Also caught up with the Maklin v Golovkin fight, what a beast GGG is!! I did want to see GGG v Sergio Martinez, but can't see that happening now as there is no way Martinez or his team will want anything to do with GGG. Question is who does GGG fight next? I'd like to see him fight the winner for Geale v Barker, although Martin Murray has also been mentioned. Otherwise I guess he moves to 168?

  12. I've tended to find the socks are more important when it comes to blisters

I did wonder about this as my walking socks are ace for stopping me getting blisters on long walks, so may try them on my next run.

    Have you got Sky?

Box sets of every series is on "on Demand" until the end of June

I've downloaded all 6 seasons over the weekend, however once they are removed from on demand (eg at the end of June) can I still watch them from my sky box? I've googled it but come up with different answers!!

I don't think you can. NO way I'm going to fit them all in, but I can try!

Don't read further up the thread. SOmeone's put a lovely spoiler in

Thanks, that's a pain, as I won't be able to watch 6 seasons in a week!! Oh well, hopefully they will put them back up at some point, otherwise I'll just get the dvds.

  14. Started running during the summer of 2012, but then had to stop due to an injury, started again this year after resting up for a while and did my first 10km (61 mins) and 10 mile (94 mins) runs in the past few months, pleased with those, hoping to be able to do a half marathon at some point, but the 10 mile run was tough for the last 2 miles or so.

May have to get some proper running shoes rather than just the normal trainers I wear as after about 6 miles I get blisters!!

  15. Have you got Sky?

  16. Khan may be fast in the ring, but if Julio Diaz put him down, imagine what Matthysse would do to him!! If Amir and his team are smart they should want nothing to do with Lucas. I don't think that fight happens anyway as it was mentioned Amir would step up to 147 soon anyway.

Let's hope they sort out Garcia V Matthysse next, that should be a good fight, although it's a pity the Peterson fight wasn't at 140 (instead of 141), as that would have meant a unification fight.

Froch v Kessler part 2 this weekend too....that should be a great fight.

The Sky super middleweight documentary was a good watch, agreed about Roy Jones Jnr, in his prime he was amazing, but has fought on for too long. In his prime there is no way Calzaghe beats him.

  17. FYI my speed tests on my N4 were;

17,411kbps download and 2,337kbps upload at home

6,010kbps download and 2,344kbps upload at work

Currently with T-Mobile/EE. Thinking of changing to 3 purely on price, but need to get a sim to test signal/speeds before I make a decision.

Just checked and I used 1.1gb of data last month and 0.98gb the previous month, but I never use wifi, so that includes all app updates etc. I could use wifi when at home/work but at home my 3g speeds are faster than my wifi speeds!!

Oh and just as an update, loving the N4, so much of an improvement over my S1 in every department. Also amazing how better Android 4.2 is over 2.3 etc.

  18. Loss to Bradford

This edged out Chelsea for me. Days like at Stamford happens. It gets away from you and things just start rolling in. That might have been the start of the rut, but it certainly wasn't the bottom of the dwellar. The bottom had to be losing at Villa Park to Bradford. It wasn't just because they were a League Two side. It was our inability to get things going against them at Villa Park even though the players should have been up for it considering it was the semi-final. The players couldn't get an attack going and our frailty from set pieces was at its height. I think that was truly the bottom of the basement moment for this season

Just to point out, that we beat Bradford 2-1 at Villa park, Benteke and Weimann with the goals.

  19. I saw the who Rigo v Donaire fight the other evening, wow, he definately schooled him. I'm surprised some of the judges had it as close as they did on the score cards though, I mean 114-113, 115-112 and 116-111, really?? I had it 117-110.

You could tell Rigo had won as Donaire's face had a lot of damage on!! I was actually surprised by Rigo's power too. Great movement too, but the crowd were shocking....just stop booing and watch it for what it is, a technical boxing match and not a war!!

As for the weekend I reckon Canelo v Trout is hard to call but I think Canelo just edges that one.
