But what were they doing with all that possession and opportunity?

does that not pose questions about them?

I agree, it does.  I was simply pointing out that, in terms of general probability, teams that post stats like ours week in, week out seem more likely to be doing poorly than doing well.

Bruce is beating those odds for now, and all credit to him for that. I'm certainly happy with the points, but I would love to see us playing more fluid stuff - I'm sure we all would.

Delighted with the win, but imagine how good we'd be if we could actually play for 90 minutes. That 2nd half they were all over us.

Still... Just keep winning, just keep winning :)

Yep, great run indeed,  but Norwich 69% possession and 10 corners to our 2. We won’t go on winning games if we keep that up.

Manager's interview at least suggests he saw what I did.

He apologised to the fans, said it was embarrassing and one of those that you remember as a manager and as a player, said there was a lot of work to be done and that we couldn't just expect to buy our way out of this league, that we had to work, do the basics and play as a team, which we didn't do.

Trouble is, the Dr. obviously thinks it is possible. He backed RDM heavily then lost patience with him. Now he has backed SB heavily... how long before he pulls the trigger again?

I went this evening with Noel but I had to leave a few minutes early to catch my train, on the whole, I thought we were poor with Calder, Green and Sarkic the standout players

Haven't seen much of them but would agree on what I saw of the stream today. Thought Boro's Callum Cooke was easily the most dangerous player on the park, wouldn't mind getting him instead of Jordan Rhodes, but I suspect Boro might have noticed he's a bit good.

There's been talk about RDM being unlucky and Bruce being lucky.

I'd say there's more than a decent argument that RDM was lucky—we should have been spanked in a lot of those games where we managed to get points.

Anyway, we've finally started looking like a competitive team again, for the first time in about 4 years (ok when Sherwood first turned up).

i will give Bruce the benefit of the doubt and say he is responsible for some improvement over the 4 games.

However, it's a small sample and I believe even so we were lucky to get points in the Wolves and SHA games (especially the former), and we could easily be looking at a rather poor initial points haul.

I think any luck in RDMs results would have evened itself out, he had long enough for that.

Onwards and upwards... I hope we'll all be able to agree Bruce has done an excellent job after the next half dozen games.

They had three shots on target, of which they scored one. They also had a slight edge in possession. I think you're being quite dramatic, and the game was not really as one-sided as you make it sound.

Fair play for playing down the drama, but I also saw it as a very one-sided affair. The 3 shots on target stat can't hide how they dominated the second half and how much more likely they looked to score.

  7. Any strength in our squad is due to us having a few good ball players. We don't have the personnel to make a team of scrappers. The only way we will get out of this division is by playing football.  I'll reserve judgment on whether Bruce is able to get us doing that, but my hopes are not high from what I've seen so far.

There'll come a point when the bubble will burst and we will lose momentum

however, the predictable lulu we experienced of under achievement under RDM I don't think we will see under Bruce. It would be nice to think we would be capable of 4 points in every six . I wonder what's statistically likely to be needed to get into the play off last place...

4 points out of every 6 still available sounds an awful lot to aim for, but it would put us on 81 by my reckoning so probably comfortably in the playoffs.

  9. The Wolves players were not more skilful than ours, but physically stronger, and extremely well organized and motivated. They impressed me. We were lucky to get a point against the Geordies, but today we led a charmed life.

Bruce surely wondering what he's let himself in for.

The longer we stay in the league the harder it will be to come out. The money the PL clubs get makes the 3 that come down this season a bigger force, and clubs that dont go up to the PL this season will go again with bigger budgets.

Absolutely right. I wasn't really expecting us to get back up straight away, but I think your points here and Daweii's above make it even more vital that we do just that.

Bristol City fans seem happy about the money. Such a weird stance to take, you just lost a guy who scored 20 goals for you last season. Sod the money, you've no time to reinvest.

    Bonkers. Good luck to them.

    Welcome Johnny!

Does seem a bit weird, but then again we should remember they put 3 past us without this guy even on the bench.

They can probably be forgiven for thinking they need the money more than the player.

Not on the bench saturday so I assume we'll never see him in villa colours again. If he's still here on Thursday then he'll be in the bomb squad 3.0. Super.

I don't think we can afford bomb squads. If he moves on, perhaps that's best for all concerned, but if there are no takers I would hope the management team do everything in their power to get him up, motivated and firing again.

  13. Can't imagine there will be (m)any takers at this late stage and considering the wages he must be on.

It would be a pity if there has been a falling out and we nether see any more of him nor see the benefits of a transfer fee.

aguero is not massive, or defoe. And Im pretty sure Robbie Keane never took the corners.

I don't mind him having the direct free kicks.

    Just not corners.

I thought we lost a bit of attacking intend when he came off today.

I did like his corners, but surely somebody else must be capable of hitting them in a similar way. I would prefer him just outside the box on corners, to feed on half clearances. We just don't have enough players to shoot accurately from that sort of position. Gardner can do it but he was so poor generally today that I doubt we'll be seeing too much of him.

The trouble with a player like Morrison is you dont know what you're going to get from him,  you need to see the whites of his eyes

On his day he's a cracking player

Just have to leave him free to range all over the park.

Not jumping the gun on the fee being accepted, because Fulham's official site has confirmed it.

Sure, but they accepted Norwich's bid as well didn't they?

Has the lad himself actually put pen to paper yet?  ITSOTP?

  17. This doesn't seem to be reported anywhere else but the Mail? Everybody else just saying bid accepted. Not on the os of course, although they report Clark gone.

Hope we're not jumping the gun.
