I'd be happy to wager a bet that if we got 100 of us at a pitch and recreated that 4th goal, 99 of us would save it.

If Olsen turned up, he's probably be the 1 who doesn't.

He's probably have crashed his car in the car park and wouldnt be there in time.

  2. See, if my firm gets in a new boss, the idea is they encourage and get the most out of what they have.

Only football managers come in  and get £100m to spend as "not my players" is somehow acceptable in football, when it isn't anywhere else.

The same players are playing worse than they were. The new players aren't playing well. It doesnt matter what the team is, they dont play well.

Indivicually, we've all seen the likes of Watkins, Ings, Mings McGinn thrive and do well. I nfairness, there was plenty of effort, without much to show for it today.

The one constant in this mess, is Gerrard.

He's just not got the experience as a manager. Might have been great on the pitch, but if you cant speak, convey your ideas, get people to listen, or plan around the resource you have, then you don't have what it takes.

I'd rather we'd such with Dean Smith.  I don't think Gerrard will be with us as the end of the season. I just hope we stay up.

  3. I just don't understand the idea that a great player has any particular foundation to be a good manager.

I mean, Ron Saunders used to bang them in, but in the 3rd division for Portsmouth.  Graham Taylor didn't have a playing career, from what I recall.

Without being unkind, having the onfield vision to be in place as a defensive midfielder,  to cover an opponent forward from receiving a long pass, is a different skillset a difficult conversation droppping your star striker, or persuading a player with several offers to sign for you.

  4. I'm just amazed that a bomb goes off, and the cabbie is up and running out of his car like Usain Bolt.  Shame the terrorist is uninsured and he won't get a replacement like for like credit hire car.

But if someone had reversed into him as low low speed causing a trivial scuff in the paint, he'd have climbed out slowly, clutching his neck and moaning about whiplash.....

It's gonna take him time to adapt to them to be fair.

Completely different patterns of play etc

But still. Look at the players he is competing with.

I'm edging to 50/50 whether he's gonna be a success for them or not

It would be best for football if he wasn't. Its the only way to slow down this massive player inflation.   The club could have just given £200 to everyone who lives in Manchester - and thats a train ride across a city that takes ages - and in EVERY flat, in EVERY house, in Every school office shop Church and pub, everyone, man woman and child could have been £200 richer, for what the diving clearing in the woods with the shit hair cost them.

  6. Almost every fan watching on telly, in the ground,  and every pundit, on radio, tp or social media can see what Gareth Southgate can't.

Now, either Southgates a genius, and we run out 4 - 0 winners having tired Scotland with these tedious tactics, or everyone else is right and we need a bit of flair, a bit of a man on the ball, drawing players, capturing spotkicks, creating room and distributing some incitful passing.

    Its ridculous.

  7. It's all very well "praising" strikers for "running", "creating chances",  "work" "effort", but frankly you could have a dog do all that for £5 of Pedigree Chum a week.

At some point, you actually have to put the ball in the net, that's the job.  If I was no good at my job, but got the coffee's in a lot, and was always on time, that wouldn't be enough.

Most of Oli's goals have come when we didn't really need them. He doesn't create match winners in games that matter.

Not good enough. Always a fraction of a second behind where he needs to be to create end product.

  8. Martinez 7?  The only thing he didn't do yesterday, was dribble out of the penalty box, swerve past 10 outfield players and smash it in the net from 25 yards out!

His quick distribution is excellent, and I love he catches balls, doesn't try punching them. One moment he's down to collect one low and fast to his side on the floor, the next, leaping like a cat to catch 2 handed across the goal like they do in Roy of the Rovers.

Wasn't sure we needed a backup for Heaton when he was signed. Now, I can't see Heaton getting a game unless Martinez injures himself.  Best keeper I've seen at Villa park on the performances to date.

    Football has changed.

    Much more intensive games now.

The players are much fitter and it's a faster game, I grant you.  But then the players got kicked around a lot more and played on worse pitches. All mitigate against continual match fitness fitness and towards injuries.

It was still remarkable in 81, and it's remarkable to set out to do so in 2020.

    But there's evidence its working.

He doesn't seem to like to do subs at all.

Playing the same team every week and rarely rotating is mainly why we missed out on top 4 under MON.

Either he doesn't want to ruin the flow of the game or he simply doesn't trust his subs.

Its also how we won the league under Ron Saunders.

No worries about that... I always enjoy a bit of Train Sim action... Class 50 diesels along the Dawlish Sea wall rekindling holidays of long ago... Happy days indeed. That said, I also enjoy Standard steam on the Carlisle to Dumfries area too.

First thing I did was recreate my commute with the London to Brighton Pack to pull out of Redhill into East Croydon.  I can't believe I spent so much time cursing the railway, just to then spend my free time doing the same bloody thing...
