Heavyweights have to up their with the worse whe it comes to not knowing when to stop. Ali, Smoking Joe, Larry Holmes, Bowe and Evander are one's that really stand out.

He didn't play box to box this season and isn't coming here to do so. He also made McGinn and Kamara look silly in our games against Luton at times.

He is an upgrade with respect to the squad in place of Chambers/Tim etc and will push the current CM options.

So he's coming as a DM? A position he's excelled at that much Luton shipped 85 goals with him screening the back line. Fantastic.

An upgrade on Chambers(a player we couldn't give away) and Tim is seriously nothing to shout about. It's not going to be too difficult is it.

He doesn't upgrade our midfield, which is my original point.

Anyway I'm done discussing bringing him back. I've said my piece tbf.

He's not better than McGinn but he is better in tight spaces. Would be more useful than McGinn against a low block, and I doubt Ramsey will be vying for a box-to-box spot.

Where does Ramsey normally play in Emery's system Tom? It's not the 10 role normally and never wide right where Bailey or Diaby play so I'd argue he'll be vying for a midfield slot, maybe at times the the same as Rodgers. Playing from a deeper starting position on the left side of midfield. We don't play with an out and out winger on that side either as the LB is normally the wide outlet so he'll generally be classed as a box to box type player who tucks in when the overlap is created. Maybe the plan moving forward is to change the system at times and play him wider but he has played that 8 role.

Name a better option that can add depth to the squad and the skills Barkley possesses for the peanuts he’s gunna cost  … also fitness wise he joined us during the Covid impacted season- he had Covid  and was no worse  for us than McGinn was in the past in that respect. I think he became disillusioned and can be criticised for that, I for one think to add depth and calmness on the ball he’s a perfect signing for us. It’s means funds can be diverted in other areas.

Tbf you could of said the same when he was last here. It's only a loan, it's peanuts, he'll add depth etc etc. If your also honest he's not a patch on McGinn and I'm not McGinn's biggest fan at the best of times. He's had one decent season for a bottom feeder club in the last half decade. He's not a DM and if we're also honest a little more, he isn't in the same class as Ramsey, Tielemans, Luiz, McGinn and Rogers who will all be vying for the box to box positions. That's potentially 5 players rotating for 2 positions. We need another quality DM first and foremost before worrying about another box to box midfielder that we all seen before and wasn't too great the last time. Then that'll be another body to aid covering any gaps in midfield and potentially rotating when Kamara is fit again.

I'm not trying to piss on the bonfire here but I'm just not convinced we need someone that isn't an upgrade on what we already have. We need upgrades, not downgrades, in which case the squad massively improves and it raises the levels of others. We need more pace and athleticism in our midfield. That's when the depth will become more telling imo. It's just my opinion anyway. He could return and be brilliant... I just doubt it very much.

He wasn't shit for us. He got injured and didn't seem fit after a promising beginning, and some fans just became obsessed with him being lazy and jumped on anything to suit their narrative. Sure he didn't finish like he began, but he didn't look slow either.

He's had a great season. He's not going to be our only signing. This doesn't have to be complicated.

Started well then finished very poorly literally blowing out his arse and becoming a passenger most the time he played, becoming pretty pointless. Personally I thought he was pretty shit. People are allowed to have different opinions without there being a narrative, at the end of the day the club will do what they want.

Like I said, if he comes in and does well then fair enough but I'm not chuffed about him returning or going to get excited about it ffs. I think there are much better players out there we could bring in. Each to their own.

Be nice to see Tank Davis back in the ring in three and a bit weeks time too.

If that young man can stay out of prison, he can be up there with the very best.

He's a great fighter and I do like him but he's a pretty dumb tw*t tbh that struggles to stay out of trouble. Just needs to stop sparring his missus and concentrate on his career or he'll end up spending a lot more time in the can. Literally tanking his career :D

He's choosing to sign Barkley.. which says to me he has an idea of how/where he'll play him and therefore hopefully get the best out him. For that reason I'm comfortable if we do take a punt on him.

..Why you're then comparing that to Emery not favouring a player who cannot pass a football (Dendoncker) or a literal child (Tim), neither of whom he signed, is a take as bizarre as your strangely salty responses. I asked you a simple question, I won't waste the time in future.

You want to try and dismiss players that Unai didn't sign to suit your own narrative as players nobody can improve, including Unai himself. Yet somehow Barkley who was pretty shocking when here previously and well known for being slow and a complete lazy bollocks will now turn into a top player again after years of being totally shit, just because its Unai signing him. So my point is/was if he can't improve Dendoncker or a young lad in Tim to get the best out of them then how does anyone know for certain he can get the best out of 30 year old injury prone Barkley, who from what I've seen has had one apparent "good" season in half a decade and more. At a shit Luton Town might I add.

Time will be the judge I guess, however this idea that Ross Barkley is going to come in and be fantastic, well we've been here before. At the end of the day it is what it is and if he comes in and does well then great, however, I don't think it's for other posters to judge the opinions of others who have already seen Barkley look absolutely shit when wearing the clubs colours previously. You only have to go back through the thread to see how people felt during his previous stint at the club. Absolutely nobody was begging for us to sign him then under Smith.

I'm not being salty at all, I'm just not enthused about the signing and why should I be after the previous experience with him.

Made even better by the fact they could not stand being in the same room as each other. Apparently they made friends later on down the line, but I’m not having any of it professional respect yes everything else no way

Yeah.... they hated the shit out of each other. I think it was more Morales tbh as he was a ghetto creature and always thought Barrera was a middle class Mexican ponce. I think that was the way most Mexicans saw it too. Morales was the poor kid against the lawyers family. IIRC

All three very not too sloppy in all fairness, one of the great trilogy's, very feasible argument that both 1 & 2 got awarded the wrong way and the result of the third one changes every time I watch it 🤣

Agreed....I thought most sided with Barrera as he was more popular, but personally felt Morales should've got both 1 & 2. I'm biased though tbh. God.... how good were those fights.

100% one of if not the greatest modern trilogy in boxing. Pair of absolute beasts.

    Barrera v Morales 1

You lucky bastard 😂 One of my favourite fights of all time. Even though most people loved Barrera, Morales will always be in my top 5 favourite fighters

The other 2 were great fights too but Barrera v Morales 1 🤩

Some something earlier where Warren has said that Fury will take the rematch and it's being targeted for October 12th which will coincide with the big Saudi sport washing event, sorry I mean 'Riyadh Season'.

Regardless of whenever Bivol vs Berterbiev happens, I just want it to happen.

Maybe the rematch will take place but I'm really dubious tbh. Especially with Fury's background. I expect several months of hard drinking, followed by a retirement announcement, followed a few months later by calling out everyman and his dog for being dossers, to then be followed by a comeback in 2025 lol. By this time Big John 'The Fighting Man' Fury may have come out of hiding to proclaim he'd smash a prime Ali and any other HW in history before dropping the nut on a 5 year old for shouting Usyk at him.

As for Bivol v Berterbiev it will definitely happen, probably in October now to smooth over the immediate loss of Fury v Usyk 2.

Of course all the above may or may not happen.

Reports that it will end up being rescheduled for October. Might even land on the Usyk vs Fury rematch card.

Can't see any rematch in October for Fury v Usyk if at all this year. Definitely don't see Bivol v Berterbiev on the same card which is a main event in itself tbh.

damn. how have I missed that news ffs 🤣

I mentioned the other day on here as I was going to try and get out to see it so a bit gutted, but not totally gutted though as I'm not sure I fancy going to Saudi in all fairness. Rather wait for a Vegas or Maddison Sq Garden card. Love to see that scrap though when it does happen

We are being quite spoiled at the moment what with last weeks unification bout, this and also the next week 5 v 5 card with the best match up of the lot IMO Bivol v Berterbiev

Bivol v Berterbiev has been postponed due to Berterbiev injury. No new date set yet.

Taylor vs Catterall 2 this weekend. Hopefully Catterall sparks him.

Yeah really looking forward to the rematch. Catterall robbed in the first fight has serious motivation this weekend. I also think Taylor will be much better prepared and expect a real war.

Uhh... Emery didn't decide to sign Dendoncker or Tim? You need to chill out mate. 😂

I'm chilled out... Emery didn't sign most the squad so what's your point?

    And I ain't your mate.....mate 😂

Nope - I’d sell Konsa or McGinn over Luiz. Indifferent what happens to Ramsey, don’t want to sell him but also we have shown this season we can cope without him.

Yeah so would I. Agree with this post.

Konsa hasn't been very good for a while and neither has McGinn at times, just like Luiz, but Luiz is the current whipping boy so lets sell him..... I'm sure we'll hear the argument they've been played out of position but that doesn't matter with Luiz, we can manage without him ffs. Anyway both McGinn and Konsa would fetch around 40 - 50m each at least, which for McGinn at 29 would be a great bit of profit tbh considering he only cost a few kegs of Tennents, few crates of Iron Brew and a some battered Mars bars.

While we are at it we could sell all our best players including Martinez, we should be able to get around 70-80m at least for him. Throw in Kamara when he's fit and sell him for another 40m. Go the whole hog and let Arsenal have Ollie in a straight swap for Havertz, because he's shit not getting 20 goals. Swap Torres for Maguire at Utd. We could make a right few quid then just start again.

F*** the CL off and play the kids I say. With Ross Barkley coming back we might aswell get Trez, El Ghazi and the whole gang back together. I'm sure Unai could work his magic 😂

Mcginn was so lazy during that period. Something I was saying about him. He did highlight presses but he so rarely tracked back or stayed solid. And his cardio was terrible blowing chunks and barely moving before the half ended.

You ain't going to convince me resigning Barkley is a good idea. Period.

Genuine question, do you trust Emery to get the best out of him?

I don't care tbh..... Lets bring back all the previous shit signings and loans.

I think we've got a brilliant manager however even he couldn't turn Dendoncker into Kamara 2.0 or turn Tim into a player he could trust in Kamara's absence so what is your point?

As was mcginn during Barkleys time here. Our standards are higher now and barkley will be a bench player

McGinn is twice the player as Barkley who was just lazy, something nobody can say about McGinn. I don't care how good he's been a Luton while they've been shipping goals for fun, he's bang average and 30 years old.

  21. Was a complete lazy bastard last time he was here and couldn't wait to see the back of him. We now get in the CL league, welcome back ffs 😂

I'm shocked tbh and not in a good way.
