  1. This game is NOT going ahead. No chance I'm afraid. Been on so many forums reading peoples quotes who are in the area and its just chaos. **** it!

Thanks a lot for your optimism and insightful thoughts, I'll choose to await an official update thanks.

I'm just telling it as it is. They are not meant to be insightful thoughts, if you read the post it says that people in the Blackburn area have said it is chaos. Sorry if you want optimism, this is a Villa site after all. :winkold:

    Here is your official line.

Having been in regular contact with the Police and the Met Office for the last few hours, we are now in dialog with the Football League concerning the prospects for this evening's Carling Cup semi-final 1st leg tie against Aston Villa.

We will make an announcement as soon as possible regarding the game.

  3. There isn't a prayer of this one being on is there? :(

Doubt it, only way is if it stops snowing soon and clears up and they go out and grit the roads BEFORE they have chance to call it off. I f they make a final decision whilst it is still snowing then it will be called off 100%.

It is meant to stop snowing at 11ish but I fear the axe will have fallen by then.

  4. From Rovers forum.

Well i'm not going, just tried to get my car off the drive and got stuck. Car is now abandoned.

Lots & lots of snow here in Newton le Willows.

M6 has major problems, no way the game will go ahead.

So for people who live in and around Blackburn, you see no chance of this going ahead?

  5. Hope we go 4-5-1 tomo. Away from home lets just pass the ball around, get some crunching tackles in midfield when necessary and use our pace and dead ball ability to get a couple of goals, no need for 4-4-2 in my opinion, I think we tried that in our loss there this season. To that end a midfield of NRC, Petrov and Milner with Young and Downing out wide and Gabby up front will do the trick.

    Cue 4-4-2! :?

  6. Blackburn's 'goal' should never have stood, looked a blatant push from where I was sat. We should have been out of sight really and it was a nervy half hour or so between their goal and our third during which time we lacked forward momentum, even against 10 men. The defence always looked solid enough although Beye had a couple of shakey moments (he looks so casual at times it's scary!). The Cuellar & Collins partnership could really hold water in the future.

Delph really does look a great prospect, every time he got the ball it was head up and looking for a forward pass and picking the pass out on most occasions, made a couple of tackles too, his time will come and will be the natural replacement for Petrov in due course. NRC was good as usual when breaking down their play but his distribution does (and always will) let him down unfortunatly. Young was at his best today, quality deliveries like today had their defence all over the place and looked like the player who caused teams so many problems just over a year ago. Downing probably had his quietest day in a Villa shirt today, I guess everyone is allowed one from time to time.

Up front, Heskey worked hard and showed no signs of his recent injury and brought others into play well, some heavy touches brought groans from the crowd but I'm sure he has heard those same groans for most of his career. The Fonz deserved his goal in the first half but woould agree with the poster above that the knock he took trying to win the ball back took a bit out of him and was replaced with Carew who dispached his penalty with confidence and apparent ease.

All in all a good game for Villa and confidence builder before Tuesday. Puts the Liverpool defeat behind us and we look to move on. I would add though that whilst this convincing win puts us into the fourth round I'm not sure if any of the fringe players staked a realistic claim to break into the regular starting eleven. I would guess that Delph will see a few games between now and the end of the season, Guzan is a more than capable deputy but the rest, whilst providing good cover do not particulary add anything new to the side.

When you say the "rest", surely you don't mean Collins? I think he is outstanding. Also think NRC can add something different to the side.
