  5. Genoa land Eduardo

    Keeper makes Italian move

    Genoa have completed the signing of Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo from Braga for an undisclosed fee.

    The 27-year-old impressed at the World Cupwith Portugal conceding only one goal in the tournament as they crashed out to Spain in the last 16.

    A number of clubs, including Arsenal were credited with an interest in the highly-rated shot-stopper, but Genoa have won the race for his signature.

    "Genoa CFC announces it has acquired the sporting rights of Eduardo dos Reis Carvalho on a permanent basis from SC Braga," read a statement on Genoa's official website.

    Eduardo replaces Italian goalkeeper Marco Amelia, who joined AC Milan last month on a one-year loan deal from Genoa.

    Genoa have also announced the signing of Hungary international Gergely Rudolf from Debrecen.

    The 25-year-old striker scored seven goals in 13 league appearances for Debrecen last season.

    In Portugal, is 50-50. Some are happy because theres a rumour that Moutinho was informing the portuguese media of some news (problems with players etc), and they are only unhappy with the value of the transfer (really low and to a rival).

    And Izmailov may be the next one to move to Porto.

    José Sosa, Huntelaar, Simão Sabrosa and Leto may sign (not all of them) with Benfica.

    ITALY/ JUVENTUS, Update on the search for a left-back

    Juventus officials are planning to sign a new left-back in July.

    As recently reported, some of the names being considered by general manager Giuseppe Marotta are Michel Bastos (Olympique Lyon), Royston Drenthe (Real Madrid), Aleksandar Kolarov (Lazio), Fabio Coentrao (Benfica) and Charles N'Zogbia (Wigan Athletic).

    However, the latest option and priority could soon become Argentina international and Olympique Marseille left-back Gabriel Heinze (32). At present, there are no contacts between the clubs but things could change once the transfer market gets into the decisive stages.

  9. Di Maria signs for Real

    The 22-year-old has signed a six-year contract at the Bernabeu and moves for a reported fee of €25million (£20.3million).

    Di Maria had been linked to a number of top European clubs after catching the eye for Portuguese outfit Benfica in the Europa League last season.

    But Los Merengues have snapped him up and he becomes new manager Jose Mourinho's first signing since taking charge in the Spanish capital.

    A statement on the club's official website said: "Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Angel di Maria.

    "The player will sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid."

    Di Maria is currently playing in the World Cup with Argentina, who have reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

    The exciting flair player switched to Benfica in 2007 after moving from hometown club Rosario Central.

    He is expected to be the first of a number of signings for Real this summer as Mourinho looks to make his mark on the team.

    This could approach 36M €.

  10. Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Benfica winger Angel Di Maria on a six-year deal, as new manager Jose Mourinho builds his squad for the new season.

    Di Maria is currently on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup in South Africa, but will swap the Portuguese league for the Spanish Primera Division once the competition has ended for a fee reported to be in the region of €25 million.

    A statement on Madrid's official website read: "Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Angel di Maria. The player will sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid.''

    The 22-year-old won the double with Benfica last season and was named the league's player of the year. He started his career with Rosario Central in Argentina before moving to Benfica in 2007 and is viewed as one of Europe's finest young talents.

    Speaking about his move, Di Maria said: "It is an honour to know that Jose Mourinho wants to sign me. It will be very nice to play in the same team as Cristiano Ronaldo and many other stars, but for now I'm focused on the Argentina team."

    Argentina coach Diego Maradona had heaped praise on the winger before the tournament, saying: "He is a spectacular player, who is growing day by day. He faces defenders continually and that's what people pay for today in the world. I hope they [benfica] sell him for €200 million and earn a lot of silver."
