  1. Martin O´Neill is not bigger than Aston Villa FC!

    Who said he was?

Sacking a manager like MON after one game into the season would make us the laughing stock of football.

Let's not follow the Spurs/Newcastle model.

We need to keep our nerve FFS - it's only one game into the season.

People has been talking about all 2009! You keep on nagging about one game! It is 18 games and two wins...MANY managers would´ve got the sack with that statistics...and add that to the fact on how the team looked yesterday.

Why do people think we be Newcastle and Spurs all of a sudden? Are you kidding yourself to believe MON is the only solution for Villa?

I'm not 'nagging on' about anything pal, I've ony posted twice in this thread.

If you think it's a good idea to sack the manager tomorrow, one game into the season with the transfer window still open, then fair enough. But then you should also have an opinion on who is available to come in and do a better job?? So who??

Many is suitable to be fair but I named Guus Hiddink as one...(now people will minimize Aston Villa and say that I am an idiot to think he will join..but that is my opinion that Hiddink could be a reasonable manager for Villa).

  2. So, if MON goes, who is going to come in and do a better job? I honestly can't believe that this thread could be a logical debate. There is no one in football who could do a better job. What we do need assistance in is buying new players, and getting better scouting, however, to replace MON is just ludicrous.

    No one in football? Jesus...

  4. I don't agree with 90% of MONs signing, and this window has been just a big joke much like the last one.

But the truth is he has improved us year after year, and we wouldn't be able to replace him with a bigger name.

Everton almost got relegated a few season ago but they stuck with Moyes and have had 2 back to back 5th places.

Newcastle and Spurs sacked good managers and never recovered.

I say stick with MON and see where we are at the end of his 5 year plan - then decide.

  5. barry never took charge of games when it was going poorly, never, - he was a shocking captain, and last season his attitude was disgraceful. I wasn't sad to see him go ( well pissed off given the club joined ), and whilst he was good for us previously, and a servant, he would have offered **** all in the midfield. Him and Petrov would still have been battered by Wigan. He's gone, good riddance, lets move forward and forget about that retch.

    Well...what can you say...

  6. He got into the national team by his own effort and has done pretty well...

Really!? How come he didnt get in on his own effort before MON came to Villa then?

Maturity in his game? Opportunity arise more in recent seasons? The explanation can be many...but I guess you are looking for "MON" explanation and I wont give you that. MON has done much good at Villa..no doubt about that...but to be fair..Barry was seen as a big player at Villa before MON entered the scenes and pushed him further. Many managers could´ve done that because I think it is natural development shown by Barry more than anything else.

  7. He would have made a difference yesterday. Someone to put a foot on the ball and string some passes together. Not that I want him back though still.

Nah, one thing he never did as a captain was bring back into play a team that was doing badly. Only ever effective if the rest of the team were doing well.

What? I saw some games where he almost single handed took charge of the midfield and held us in the game. He was sometimes absolutely immense at times...

You really has turned your back on Barry by not recognizing him for what he meant to Villa the three last seasons. He got into the national team by his own effort and has done pretty well...

  8. To suggest MON should be sacked is a **** joke and anyone suggesting it should be ashamed. I mean seriously last week after pre-season we were world beaters, one bad performance and some shakey performances its the end of the world. Its not its a 2-0 loss to good side Wigan.

Its not ideal but get some f'ing perspective.

'We're not fickle, we just dont like you' No we are just fickle and its an absolute embarrassment.

You're making the mistake that a lot are - assuming people are voting the way they are due to one bad game. Well, I'm voting based on the last 20 odd competitive fixtures and have seen nothing to fill me with confidence. If the form continues the way it has been we would be staring at relegation this year. We have a worse team than at the end of last season, with a smaller available squad (injuries) and MON seems to be losing the plot as regards tactics, team selection and substitutions.

One game does not make people react like this, basically anything 2009 has.

    This is exactly why...

So..out of curiousity..do you think we have a strong squad? Do you like the way we play? I am now talking about competitive games from last season second half and until yesterday. How can you say that Villa fans are fickle after watching the club fail BIG in many PL games...and also failing quite considerable to improve the squad with quality signings?

I am amazed that someone can defend it...I really am.

  10. why would we even be wasting our time being fans then since we "long for a defeat".

Honestly I think a lot of our more negative posters really enjoyed that game yesterday. There are all sorts of posters mentioning how 'they knew it was coming', and pointing out how they've been doomsaying for the last three years etc etc.

I can imagine them sitting at their keyboard, rubbing their hands with glee as they let loose all their frustration.

Expectations at Villa Park are ridiculous these days. We have no right to beat Wigan. We have the right to see effort and application from our players (something which we didn't see from most of the team yesterday). We have no right to see fancy dan football played out by world class players.

We are on our way to being the next Newcastle in terms of expectations. Our booing and negativity and lack of support to team and management are all our very own though.

    Shocking...

  11. I bet Barry feel good at the moment going to a exciting Manchester City side that play a PASSING GAME and leaving an absolute shock of hoofing football a la Aston Villa...

To say that Barry..after more than 10 years at the club..has turned his back on us is unbelievable.

Barry wouldnt come back...and I agree with him. The squad at Villa today will not be any better than midtable...

  12. Your posts suck mate.

If you went to the match today u would have realised that we could/should have lost 6-1.

I was at the game today. If they would have won 6-1 it would have been one of the harshest scorelines ever to happen. So I really am not sure what on earth you're on about.

Stop with the whole "you should start going to matches" shite as well, many people are unable to.

I wouldnt go as far as 1-6...but we could´ve lost 0-4 with an ease. We were lucky to get away with 0-2 today.

  13. rofl are you joking....If we bought Van Der Varrt, Ruud V N, Villa Park will be full every week.....Who wants to go and watch footballing imposters like Heskey and Shorey put on the famous villa shirt??

What an odd post. I go to watch Aston Villa, not the people who happen to be wearing our shirt until we sack them off or they get a better offer and sack us off. What a truly odd statement :?

    Doug? Is it you?

  14. I've already said one as well Tric

Frank Rikyeard or however you blinking spell it !.

How about Trapattoni - christ , if ireland can get him , although prob too old I admit

or Koemann - No 2 with Holland at the mo.

    Or maybe, Houllier......

    Or even , and get this.......................Sven !

or maybe , Maldini (paulo that is)

Not suggesting I want any of these (well Rikyeard I would - and I'd get his name right at some point) but you asked for names !.

And dont say they wouldn;t come to Villa coz as long as we matched their ambitions - they would - Premier league is where most want to manage, and god, if notts County can get Sven then quite frankly, if you think we cant attract a top name - you are daft !.

Come on everyone - he wants names - give him some !

There are defo a few here that I feel can make as good job as MON has done..or even better.

Frank Riijkaard is one that I like because he has a real positive way to look at football with a great deal of attacking football in his gameplay.

Ronald Koeman would be a very good manager imo.

Gerard Houllier...hm...maybe. I have doubts though. However..I do believe he would jump at the chance to come back to PL.

SGE is a very very bold thing to say on this forum but I wont go against you on that one. We can agree that it would mean the end of frustrating windows and hoofing football. :winkold:

Paolo Maldini is a wild card I never thought about but he would also represent a very exciting manager indeed. He has a load of experience and he has football in his veins with his father being one of the most successful managers in Italy. Paolo has a natural vision of football and he would be very popular among today stars in Europe..thats for sure.

Trapattoni? Nah...he was a very very good manager but time has changed and I dont think he is up to it. A few years back..maybe 5-6 years back..he would´ve been a great manager though.

  15. Bad 2nd half of season. Tremendous Peace Cup. Decent performance against Fiorentina. Dire today.

Martin O'Neill, hero to zero, eh? We might do well to sleep on it. I have no more wish that O'Neill goes than I have that we get a richer owner.

Stay. 100% stay. And no more of this new manager every 3 or 4 years. One bloody match. DOL was right.

Fist you write "Bad 2nd half of the season"..and then you end it all up with "One bloody match"?

Fickle my arse! You deserve credit when due...and you deserve criticism in the very same way. MON has had three seasons to build a strong side. He has now a very thin squad lacking almost everything!

  16. Tricella, if he goes, we'll need a manager you idiot! You are the master of blanket statements! All you want is a manager to go out and buy a bunch of no hopers from Europe! At the game I knew you would be on here sticking the knife in! You mention last year only because we lost if we had won, it wouldn't even be mentioned! Getting rid will not be the answer!

Dont get so fired up. Remember..dont make me the scapegoat because you angry Villas performance today. It is not my wrong what you saw today and I understand you really hate it when you get the sense that maybe...just maybe..the idiot called Tricella has something with what he says.

I will give you a name...Guus Hiddink. Now I know what you will do with this...but I dont care. I have more names that could lift the club further. MON aint all that...

Guus Hiddink is not beyond us. He has had a taste of Premier League and he liked it very much. When he came to Chelsea I am very positive he already knew they had Ancelotti lined up but that he couldnt get available earlier. Abramovich opted for a short term solution by bringing one of his employees..Guus Hiddink..to the club to fill the time gap.

Guus Hiddink is one of few managers I really think would be gettable for Villa and he would probably represent the top class manager the club need.

He would also bring quality to the club...in players. I bet that Sneijder wouldnt be that hard to get if Lerner had the money to back it up. Well..this is me dreaming of a new era...but we will have to wait because MON wont leave by himself and Lerner is reluctant to sack him.

  17. Martin, you and anyone else can question the manager as much as you want. There's a difference between questionning the bloke and calling for him to leave though, IMO.

I just find it strange that no one is questionning the owner of the club, at all though. Oh well may be we do need a new manager for that to start.

Maybe I'm not as blinded as some by the knight in shinning armour riding in to slay the Ellismonster

I personally dont think that the owner is to blame at all. MON has got everything he has asked for. He has paid some big fees on players...seemingly getting the backing from Lerner.

  18. Which top class manager? Tricella always mentions class but never gives us any names!

It's 1 game! As for that Fear article, bollocks to that! I'm as pissed off as anybody with this result but getting rid is not the answer!

    Stop talking about first game...

The downward spiral started last season when we sunk like a greystone thrown into water. MONs transfer activity has frustrated fans for years. His tactical "wisdom" amazes even many of MONs fans. The gameplay is awful at times...and when our opponents close down the space for players like Ashley Young we are absolutely clueless on how to change the game. Creativity is a huge question mark on MONs building.

There are MANY managers that can take us further...why do I need to name them? Is that really important?

  19. Getting rid now and we are this years Newcastle

Nope. We would get a new manager in that could lift the lads up and maybe have a few days trying to sign quality players. I am however well aware over the fact that MON will be given unbelievable amount of time by Lerner.

Remind you all...the team and the squad Villa has now is MONs...he has had three years to build it...together with a quite big transfer budget. We have some talented lads in the team...but the overall quality has much more to wish for.

  20. I am not calling for MON to resign only based on this game.

He has had his 3 years circle now and as I see it he has been put to a standstill. The team is weaker than last season. The gameplay is hoofing. The transfer activity is low key and questionable. The tactics from MON are sometime a joke. Why on earth does he sit on press conference and say we cant expect performance from Delph until he has settled down and maybe it will take a "wee bit of time" until he show what he can do. He then releases him on the opening game?!?

No..it is simply not good enough on several issues for me and that is why I want him to leave...

    End of crappy signings..please!

We''ll have to agree to disagree then mate. I am with you on the unattractiveness in the way we play at times. But in terms of signings and effevtiveness of the way we play.. I can't complain. This style of football and the transfers made has taken us from absoloute shit to consecutive top 6 places and a fairly decent raid on the top 4, so I can't complain about that.

Surprised to see a few saying Ashley was one of our best today. I'm with the few who thought he was shite. Seemed to try and win the game on his own, just refused to pass! A few times he was taken down unfairly, but the point still remains.

Our first team is good..or was good..because without Barry and Laursen we doesnt seem to have the strength and composure. Also think Friedel should be replaced by Guzan.

If you look at the central defence you need to think on how bad Davies really was when he went totally out of position several times yet we were lucky to avoid more goals from Rodallega.

I dont think that the team DOL had was crap. It just wasnt a team unit. The team did perform a very good season under DOL. As for the first team material MON has a better team..yes...but he has spend quite a lot of money to get there.

  21. Not entirely of course...but you cant hide from the fact that team spirit and the morale means a lot because with players not holding great quality MON has worked wonders by getting players to gel together as a unit and having a great spirit. This is facts to me...

And please dont try to make me your scapegoat to attack when you are pissed off about the teams performance today. Move on now...

Yes, I agree team spirit is a big thing, but I also like to think we've won games through quality from our players too.

I am disappointed about todays performance, but I'm not making you a scapegoat at all. I just think it's ridiculous that we have fans calling for MON out already. We'll be a Newcastle-like laughing stock if we got rid of him now! Thankfully the people that matter are happy to keep MON, or so it seems.

I am not calling for MON to resign only based on this game.

  22. I seriously dont know what to answer on this attack.

First. I have always admitted that I have been writing criticism towards MON...of course..it is there for everyone to see. However..and this is something you can check up if you have the guts to look at the truth...I have been critizising him for his transfer activity!

I have been hailing him for his performance to guide Villa to two consecutive 6th places and it is on this site for everyone to read also.

I think that morale in the team and the squad does a lot for a team on how good or bad they play. The morale and the spirit was absolutely gone at DOL´s team in the end and they didnt want to play for him anymore. No motivation...

I can see this coming for MON too..because the display today was as bad as the worst I saw under DOL.

I have not judged MON only on this performance...do you think I am crazy?? I have come to a position where I say enough is enough...

    Attack? Get a grip mate.

So you feel the reason we are so succesful is because of a team spirit? Okay. :crylaugh:

Not entirely of course...but you cant hide from the fact that team spirit and the morale means a lot because with players not holding great quality MON has worked wonders by getting players to gel together as a unit and having a great spirit. This is facts to me...

Please stop accusing everyone who disagree's with you of attacking you and stop telling people to move on.

  23. This is the first time I will say it...

I want Martin O´Neill out. Todays performance showed me that he has taken the club as far as he can with two consecutive 6th places.

Eh? This doesn't make sense at all. First of all you're saying that the showing of one game gives you enough info about how well we are going to do? You need to watch Villa more if you think this is as bad as it gets, we had worse performances last season FFS.

The team lack almost everything at the moment and I dont trust his tactical knowledge and I certainly dont trust him on the transfer market. His coaching ability is tops...but that is not enough in Premier League.

You say his transfer, etc. are all shit.. so would you please enlighten me on how exactly we changed from a relegation battling side to a consistant top 6 side. I can't wait to hear your reasons.

    I was embarrassed today...

Wigan Athletic made us look like a joke. They had brilliant creativity in players like newly signed Gomez...absolutely brilliant crossings and passings from Figueroa and also a lethal striker in Rodallega. How a club like Wigan can find and attract those kind of players is beyond me...no..I correct myself...how a club like that can find those players..yet Villa misses out again and again. This small club found Esteban Valencia..and sold him with great profit in the summer. They rebuild and find new gems...

You make it sound like the likes of Ashley and Delph are terrible players. Yes, they had poor games today, but I'm sure Figueroa and Rodellega will have more than a few shite games. Also, why is it that you feel we should be beating Wigan if you feel their players are oh so much better than ours?

It is time Martin...I am actually sad to say...but it is time to leave. The gameplay is awful..the energy was shameful and the whole attitude in a opening day game suggest that they all have lost it at Villa Park!

Talk about biggest over-reaction ever! Who are 'all' of these people that have lost it at VP?

Sad to see MON go? We aint idiots mate, you're the first to jump on MON over everything you can.

I seriously dont know what to answer on this attack.
