  1. Shocking treatment to Hughes, althoug he became an arrogant clearing in the woods for no real reason. So glad we have an owner that knows the game of football and things can't be turned around in 4 months of a season. Hope Barry's enjoying himself up there!

    Quite the opposite, really.

Randy Lerner doesn't know much about football.

But he also knows that he doesn't know much, and thus absolutely trusts MON's judgement.

Hasn't Lerner been a football fan (taking intrests in Arsenal, Villa and Fulham) since he was at Cambridge Uni in the early/mid-80's?

Abramovich probably subscribes to that theory but, since he sacked Moaninho they've only won CC and FA CUP...

  2. Been reading and hearing recently that there are doubts about Rio Ferdinand's position as 1st choice CB for England.

He has been increasingly plagued by injuries and they're affecting his ability to do his job effectively.

Do you think it's time to try another CB before we get to the World Cup or, do you reckon it's all a storm in a teacup and Ferdinand is still quality and he'll return to the form that made him 1st choice?

    What do y'all think?

  3. It's Mixed Martial Arts

So it involves all the Arts of Combat. You get kickboxers, Brazilian Jujitsu, Boxers, Roman Greco Wrestlers, and freestyle fighters pitting themselves against eachother.

  4. UFC 102 show main event Nogeira vs Coutoure, also Thiago Silva vs Keith Jardine.

Dunno about y'all but I don't like seeing Randy being rolled out to fight all and sundry nowadays. I know he has to honour his contract with Dana White but, man! What kinda fight is him vs Minotaur?!

  5. I'm a newbie to UFC, but the impression I got from that Velasquez was if he comes up against someone with a better ground defence he'll be in trouble. Yes he survived Kongo's punches but they rocked him. If Kongo had capitalised then the fight would have been over quicker.

he controlled Kongo but he didn't do a whole lot when he was there. great positioning but no finish. The impression I got was someone better on the ground than Kongo would have won that fight.

But as I said I'm a n00b so I might be way off!

like i said,i think Velasquez should drop down to 205,i think if he come's up against the likes of Lesner he'll come undone..at 205 he could be one of the greats imo..

Agree with both comments. Someone like Lesnar, Mir, Carwin or Gonzaga would prove too much to handle.

Good call for him to drop down a weight.

And Congo NEEDS to work on his take-down defence... cos he has none!

  6. Velasquez is really impressive. Even though Kongo survived it was a beating

Wouldn't call him the next Anderson Silva/GSP on that performance. Dominant yes, his opponent was devoid of ground defence, and he couldn't put Congo away. Against a well rounded rival he'll find it much tougher.

Performance of the night was from Mike Swick.

    Bring on Alves vs GSP!!!

Swick was good alright, but tbh i dont think it was the best night for ufc ever..i thought in two of the fights the ref's were not great..

True, ref defo missed the eye poke by Cro Cop. Not that it would've changed the outcome...

  7. For the first UFC card I've properly sat down and watched (well most of it anyway) that was pretty good.

I can see myself getting into this in a big way!

Be sure to watch the next one. It's a ridiculous card. 8)

i really cant wait dor this,i dont want gsp to get beat but i have a feeling silva is going to win..

I'd've thought GSP's chances of beating any of the Silva's would be slim. ( He's fighting Thiago Alves) :winkold:

  8. Velasquez is really impressive. Even though Kongo survived it was a beating

  9. Remains to be seen how he'll perform. I don't view his signing as the second coming of the messiah.

I'd've liked to see a midfield breaker but no-one was available at a reasonable price and I spose currently our problem is creating enough chances to score since Cesc got injured.

At 27 he does represent a departure from our kindergarten policy but, i see it as a good thing. What we've lacked in the attacking dept is someone with proven top class experience.

Glad he's with us and for a reasonable price. I'm sure if the Spuds or citeh had gone in for him they'd've paid a british record price for him.
