He's nearly 31. Whilst a good player would be a poor signing imo. No resale value and you'd only get 1-2 years from him.

I read that Inter was interested and thus assumed he was about to expire. He's not, he's under contract until 2028, apparently he's been targeted by the fans (he's the team's captain) and that's why he wants to leave. Ugly situation, probably best to look elsewhere.

I know he was talked about last summer and main man @Jas10 loves this idea… as do I! How about it Monchi?

As we all know, I’d love him here (dream/fantasy) and he’s world class but…

if we have a limited budget, it needs to be spent on a proper DM and fullback upgrades. Might need another CB too, a lot depends on sales of players we couldn’t rely on consistently. Be nice if they stay fit and injury free too..

Man, I'd be all over this if there was a chance. He'd instantly become Villa's top midfielder. I'd even grab Sczezny too, so he can have a pal.

Quite accurate and i didnt realize pedro porro was once at City 🤔 yeah you got to be performing every time you play if your part of a Pep team so you gotta be really hot on it, so you wouldn’t take the risk on Nunes ?
Looks like Barkley will arrive and Carlos Soler who you could consider maybe a big name, not too keen on him but not against it either, but if im thinking about creating that monster force in the middle of the pitch i want some real grit/steel and top footballing wizardry that will match pretty much anyone that we come up against.

Nunes on a free, sure, 50 quid or whatever to snatch him from City? Hell no.

Soler is not a guy I would go after at all from what I saw in PSG, but I assume he is solely depth-reinforcement. Which is OK.

Raoul Bellanova what do you make of him, he's 24

Haven't seen him, really, I can't comment. Sorry.

Mcginn has that 9/10 and Luiz can lack these qualities maybe too often.  we need a slzobozlai type in there to boss those areas. We dont need to sell Luiz we someone to challenge him.

I agree there isn't a NEED to sell Luiz at all, but of all of Villa's players, he is perhaps the one with the best "most repleaceable/better return" relation. Others either can't be replaced at all or wouldn't get near the same return.

Fair enough he was class and can go up against anyone whenever i seen him play, pep doesn’t just sign anyone but with that being said you have watched him more recent to me so maybe you are right but im sure we could get him back to his best in no time

Well, he kinda does. He has this "buy him just in case" policy, that either makes him buy bad players/not a fit for City (Phillips, Nunes, Gomez, Garcia, Grealish), good players that he never bothers to incoporate and end up leaving for greener pastures (Palmer, Pedro Porro, Angeliño) or 1st team players that he particularly sours on for some reason and he ships them away (Cancelo, Laporte, Zinchenko, Otamendi, Ferran Torres). Others are some young players as a bet that never even play or get shipped to other sheikh teams.

And that's besides his ruining all his strikers and his center back collecting.

Matheus Nunes anyone ? Talented player just lost and pushed to the side at City, personally i feel he would be a fantastic signing for us. Also fills in many of the CM roles we are happy to see an addition for👏🏽

I watched City a fair amount this season, and Nunes probably has the dubious honor of looking absolutely mundane while playing with some of the best players in the world at the same time. And City already wants to ship him away... Not sold on him at all.

Only way this happens is with a loan, as PSG are reluctant to sell.

Even if it happened with "just" a loan with no option he'd be a top-tier addition.

Dont attack me but present your points to prove otherwise BUT i dont have that much confidence in Monchi, lets bear in mind that 90% of the team that have got us to where we are now before he arrived, zaniolo and lenglet were questionable at the time of signing and certainly proved to be so once the season had concluded. I respect both players for trying and giving what they could to the team absolutely full credit for that and to be fair they were loans, even Rogers who is a good player of course far from the finished article wasnt perhaps someone I expected us to sign at the time, and yes we did make a top four finish and rogers did contribute to that but more importantly down to super emerys coaching/management.

While I agree that Zaniolo was out of left field (wasn't really in my radar, and no reason why he should be after the past season), and that Lenglet is absolutely terrible and he should've known that, wasn't he instrumental in convincing Torres to sign for Villa? Maybe not worth 38 million, but still a good player. With a year under his belt, some very good results achieved, and the coaching staff solidly in place, this market window will put the focus entirely on Monchi. IMO, the team has mostly reached its ceiling or very near to it barring a totally improbable injury-free season, it needs more depth and some more talent. It's still early, though. I expect things to be relatively quiet until after the eurocup where players rise and fall.

Remember tariq lamptey tearing us a new one down our right during lockdown. Lightning quick.

Wonder if he would fancy a move to a CL club ?

I think his speed (thus most of his game?) has been decimated by all the injuries he's had in the past years. Check his minutes played last 3 seasons:

    913 (10 full 90' games)

    438 (4 full games)

    1556 (17 full games)

That's just another injury waiting to happen. Only worth rolling the dice as a FA on low wages IMO.

It was a Champions League release clause. It's how City got the likes of Julian Alvarez so cheap too.

Nope, that wasn't it. Riber sold Julián Álvarez a tad cheaper (€21,5M) than the release clause ($25€) because they agreed to leave him there for another year and pay Riber an extra €1,5M as a buyback clause.

Clubs in Argentina usually don't give a farck if the buyer club offers Champions League to the player. We're already handicapped as it is. Rather than allow a lower fee for Champions League clubs, we'll add extra charges as objectives instead.

Problem is that they don’t sell their players cheap, they always get a premium.  Very interesting player but over paying may not be in our playbook.

Liverpool got Macca for an absolute bargain. IIRC most of their premiums have come exclusively from swindling Chelsea, heh (Caicedo, Sanchez, Cucurella, Potter).

    Couldn't hurt to ask.

Tbf this the first game they have lost all season

I don't think he's solely referring to the defeat, Frimpong played as a right forward (sometimes as false 9) most of the game, having Stanisic behind him as the right back/midfielder.

All the attention on Leverkusen but some really good players in the Atalanta team....Ederson Silva been linked to a few prem clubs. Lookman has done very well since joining them aswell.

After today's final, Leverkusen's players' stock dropped dramatically. What a terrible occasion to have a collective bad day. And I agree with you, Lookman was the MVP, but Ederson absolutely ruled the midfield.

Id probably have to agree with that, who would your alternate options be and im sure you understand why im not super confident rolling into the new season with the rogers/ramsey option

    I had some suggestions here:

Nico Paz (left footed) could be a low risk very high reward option. While Kroos has announced his retirement, it's still a fact that Paz hasn't played a single minute for Madrid's first team in the entire 2024.

Remains to be seen if he can secure Madrid's permission for the Olympic games. If he does and plays well, he might end up on the radar of many other teams.

Joao Felix has had a pretty good season i say we try for him, would be major if we could lure him with his exceptional talent and Emery would get even more out of him, its players like that which give me hope when we are playing the big boys which ramsey/rogers wouldn’t and that is no disrespect to them but of course there are levels.

He sucked less than in Chelsea would perhaps be more accurate. He was still far away from his better Atletico seasons (and his breakout Benfica one). He couldn't even manage to get a starting spot in the PSG series against a 16-year old and over the hill veterans like Lewandowski and Gundogan.

He's another case of talent gone to waste because of a total lack of drive. Atletico couldn't make him work, and they keep shipping him despite having paid €126 million! (apparently he's the 4th most expensive player ever, yikes). Chelsea couldn't make him work, Barcelona couldn't make him work. You guys don't want to be the next sucker in line.

And even if somehow you could manage a cheap loan with no option, his wages would surely be astronomical.

    Here we are:

Varela won't be worth his asking price.

Redondo hype kind of fell down a bit after a very underwhelming under-20 tournament and the fact that he's going through the motions in a shit league.

Dunno anything about Hezze and Galarza, probably the first time I hear about them actually.

Equi Fernández is Boca's replacement for Varela (they shared a couple of games together). Equi has a bit less defensive instincts but is more talented with the ball. He made his first goals for us this past match. But stay away from him! He's ours and we have no replacement whatsoever. For comparison purposes, Varela would be more Kamara and Equi more Douglas, but with one caveat: Douglas plays better with Kamara, Equi only showed his best version when Varela left, he absolutely must play center field (how far back or forward is still up for speculation among Boca fans).

Does he? Only has 2 red cards on the season. More concerned with all the muscle injuries he collects.

Massively overrated, injury prone, and single-handedly got Barcelona out of the Champions. Would be a terrible investment.

If you must, Koundé or Christensen would be better options and much cheaper.

My personal player of the season based on how much he has improved this season. His goals/assists ratio is highly impressive too.

Another thing I liked is how unfazed he would seem in entering a losing match, sometimes against big six opposition, and instantly make a difference.

When team dynamics dry up (either because it's not the day or the opponent forces it), you NEED players like Bailey to open things up.

  17. Bailey was the surprise of the season for me, and at times I felt Unai brought him from the bench to try and motivate an out-of form Diaby.

I hope I don't see that next season. If he plays at the same level, he should never leave the starting 11.

While Dibu and Watkins are certainly better, no one else quite exceeded expectations as Bailey, IMO.

Yeah Palacios has been linked and may be the quality DM we need (with Kamara unavailable for a while but we need depth and competition anyway. Must improve defensively), more difficult to get Leverkusen players now though and valuations will be high…

Varela at Porto is another we have apparently scouted…

    DM and RB are priorities…

Varela I quite like, another Boca product, but Porto is going to ask you 70 mill for him. He's not worth that, not yet at least. Macca is better and he went for 35 (what a bargain Liverpool got).

Also, don't listen to me and just break the bank for Alan, we get a % of his next sale. 😅
