The ball today from the free kick & his assist for watkins against alkmaar were both on a de bruyne level. Phenomenal footballer

He does an underrated job of creating the space for digne to go into. He may not get the goals & assists at the moment but they will come. He is always on for a pass and actually gets into some good positions. Probably should have scored today but I don’t think he played badly

It's a mix - and a sensible approach. They'll be trying to stay up but are looking to do it with younger players who can add value. If they go down, they've got a decent base with some valuable experience thrown in.
I just don’t see the potential in the players they have got in to be able to add value to them.
It’s not like they have gone out & invested in the best championship talents with a view to giving them premier league experience to then sell on for a profit -
I still wouldn’t rule out getting in a replacement. Emery’s not exactly the type of manager to come out & say he wants to replace Olsen in public. It’s a clear weakness in our squad & I’d expect it’s one of those where we wait & see who becomes available later on in the window

I’ll be surprised if they get past the 25 point mark this season. Their signings are very much mid table championship players at best. Looks more like planning for when they go back down rather than trying to stay up so far

Looks like a major rebuild for them this summer.
Already sold Coady & Neves, Collins is off to Brentford, Kilman is wanted by Napoli.
Adama & Moutinho gone too.
Can see them struggling next season

Based on twitter rumours it seems as though our first choice targets were Ugarte (£60m?) & Asensio (Free) but obviously that was ambitious and both seem to be going to PSG.
For a similar amount of money we are now heavily linked to Tielemans & Goncalves which from what i’ve seen would be less risky & probably a lot less in terms of wages

I have spent the last few days thinking about how i’d like the summer window to go. I’ve tried to be realistic with targets & fees.
I think the main positions & players we should be looking to improve on if we are to compete in the league, Europe & both domestic cups are:
A back up / cup goalkeeper:
I would go for Steffen from City. He’s available for around £10m and has experience and the ability to play out from the back having done so with City & Middlesbrough. We could offer him enough football with the 3 cup competitions to keep him happy.
A defensive right back:
Wan-Bissaka would be perfect for how Emery wants his right back to play. He’s probably the best 1 on 1 fullback in the league. Not great going forward but comfortable on the ball & solid defensively.
Left footed centre back:
A player we keep getting linked with, Pau Torres, would be brilliant. Has played under Emery before so wouldn’t take long to settle in. Would rotate with Mings & could push him to the next level.
2x defensive midfielders:
I don’t think there are many players out there that I would replace Kamara & Luiz with in the middle. So they would have to be rotation players. I like Tyler Adams from Leeds. He would be decent back up to Kamara in the more defensive role, is comfortable at receiving the ball & is good defensively.
The second for me would be Guendouzi. He’s obviously been heavily linked with us in January. I think he would do well in the Luiz box to box role. Again he is both good on the ball & good defensively.
A right midfielder:
Strong rumours of Asensio from Madrid. Would be the marquee name to kick off the European push. Very talented player, hasn’t developed as he should have at Madrid but that’s more down to the big name competition he’s been up against. On a free too so would be a no brainer if he wanted to join.
The hybrid winger/striker:
Nico Williams would add pace and skill to the front line. He would create space for the other attacking players to cause havoc. Massive potential to develop into a world class player.
That leaves us with…

If it was true, and he was available to buy for around £5m is he a decent option for the number 10 role?

Would any one take Nick Powell from united?
He might be available for around £5m

With Kamara now out, I think we should possibly use Pau further forward in the more defensive midfield role. This would still allow us to convert to a back 3 on the ball & would give us less disruption rather than dropping mcginn back and sacrificing his strengths
