briny_ear......I agree with ashley Young. I honestly thought Carew was a waste of space for 75 minutes of the game. His second goal was a fantastic finish but when under the cosh he tried an outside of the foot flick from a corner and totally missed it. He had 15 mins when he did no wrong, bringing the ball down, holding it up but when things were going badly he did not seem interested. can't argue with a hat rick mind! where as ashley is getting back to how he was a while back. he looked up for it, scored and put a better delivery in to the box to what he has in recent past.

That Alan Lee (villa reject) will eat Beye alive in the air. They more than matched our 1st team at their place so would respect them a bit more than that.

Possibly. Can he be trusted? To be fair we probably don't know as has not played. Certainly would not trust sidwell from what I've seen when he has come on as sub in the league. Shame Reo Coker is out as would be bloody ideal against a dogged championship side.

Young is a better RB but obviously Cuellar offers height at defending/attacking set pieces. It's a tough call. Against the weaker teams at home would prefer Young to play as is better with the ball. In the final I would go with Cuellar to be fair.

Fonze, Delph, Carew, L Young to start against palace. Keep the rest of the side as strong as possible for me.

For 20 minutes we were outstanding today but struggled the other 70. A win is a win however and can't knock 5 goals. Really felt Young showed glimpses of getting back to how he was. Also I am made up for Downing today with his 2 goals coz i do like him but again he looked poor today, hopefully his goals will kick start his confidence. results have gone for us other than Spurs beating wigan 2-0 at the mo.

fresh legs in midfield. Delph or Sidwell for petrov who played well but tired. Or as we were camped in their half I would sacrificed Carlos, Shift Milner to rB to help Ashley and get Sidwell in the midfield with Petrov.

I'm glad some sense is being spoken on this thread now. The first few comments were unbelivable, albiet were posted early so might suggest they were not at the game and just judged the result.

However what I will say is on the negative was that the atmosphere was crap today and was against liverpool altough it was bloody freezing that night. Lets get Villa Park rocking! That might have given us an extar push today when they boys ran out of ideas last 20 mins

Well said. Albeit we just about did enough to do so today it just didnt quite happen. People should be more patient and remenmber when it REALLY Was piss poor in previous years.

over 13 shots + 15 ish corners + being camped in their half apart from a 10 min spell 2nd half. We should have won today and on another day would have. Yes with more quality in midfield/attack we could win but every team out there needs more quality.

Not much help from Milner????!!!! Milly was knackered because he had to do all Stan's work. Stan is good with the ball at his feet, that's it. He does nothing else. Nothing that Delph or NRC could do just as well or better imo. I'd agree that he was one of the better players today. It's up to MON to counter that 3 then. He didn't. It was a pi$$ poor performance all round.

Yes milner does work bloody hard but normally by getting forward in wide positions. Thought Petrov won alot of ball today and used it better than Reo-coker ever could, not sure about delph yet. Ive seen it alot worse performances than this so piss poor is harsh

Fair enough but I don't remember any clear chances apart from Gabby skewing horribly over and cocking up again in the 92nd minute

Good save 1st half from Gabby's turn and shot, Milner start of second half just wide, Collins free header 1st half, Carlos over the bar albeit came at him quick, + plenty of crosses/corners that just didnt fall for us or were good enough.

And if Petrov was man of the match by a mile, then I must have been watching another game

He battled well in midfield against a West Ham 3 with not much help from Milner.

Gabby holds the ball up well and runs the chanells but we really need that "fox in the box" to actually fashion chances.

I agree. We dont need a big man alongside Gabby anymore as has grown in strength. We need a creative spark palying off him or just a poacher.

Who are all the muppetts just dismissing today as rubbish? Remember O'leary's reign in charge? We created today 13 chances of which 3-4 were good ones. On another day we would have won comfortably as had over 15 corners which we nomally have sucess from. Petrov man of the match by a mile. My only criticism is MON possibly did not change things up in the last 20 mins. I was thinking Sidwell for Carlos shifting Milner to RB as Carlos did alright but offers nothing going forward.

harsh on milner. he offered alot more (maybe only 1st half) than the midfield centre 3. and thought gabby did us proud. was fed scraps all game but came up with the goods. cuellar was better than a 6 as well...very solid defensively.

Milner was one of our better players in 1st half. albeit had an absolute mare 2nd, but his work rate stayed consistent throughout. had to go looking for the ball in the 2nd as midfield 3 could not pass wind
