Very good start. Not much ambition shown against Liverpool, which was more disappointing considering how well we'd played against Man City a few days before. Every other performance has been good and we've done what we needed to.

Got us very compact and organised in midfield. Fullbacks are looking good flying up the pitch. For me there's still a way to go until the football is attractive as it has been at its' best over the past few years, but as long as we keep winning no one is going to care. Hopefully drops Ashley Young to the bench sooner rather than later.

Thought as much mate, looking good for a top half finish at the very least at the moment. A lot of our fans had a bit of a grudge on him leaving but we’ve actually benefitted massively with Gio Bronckhorst and his team. In the 10 games before his departure we had conceded the first goal in 7 out of 10 games whereas in Gios first 6 games we’ve won 5 and drawn 1and that was away to Lyon in a game we were leading 1-0 until late on. 5 league wins in a row including away wins at hearts, Livingston and hibs. Notoriously hard places for us in the past. It’s looking good for both sides!

Would you be confident of him making our midfielders comfortable on the ball, improve our passing game and ball retention? Composure in possession?

Were they creating chances with relative ease, in play. Incisive passes, through balls?

Did he ever resort to hoofball and did the quality of football ever deteriorate much? How did he manage any slumps in form or poor runs (can’t imagine there were many, and short lived if they were. Due to quality of opposition)?

He certainly seems to have done well in Europe, that’s encouraging. Especially because the standard of opposition in the PL is going to be a huge challenge.

I just can’t get away from the fact that he never won a cup competition there and only has 1 league title to show for it… despite the impressive achievement of halting Celtic’s dominance…

Never once have we played hoofball mate. The reason his old firm record is so good is that he ensures the midfield battle is won consistently so yes I can 100% see you him improving the midfield

A lot of critics point to the money Gerrard had to spend but as far as I’m aware Celtic still spent more.

Yeah Celtics spend was still more so no excuses from them really

Thank you for sharing and taking the time….

Thoughts/reasons on why he only one 1 out of 9 trophies?

Going a season unbeaten and only conceding 13 goals is impressive but his record isn’t great when compared to past Rangers & Celtic managers is it? Also, weren’t Celtic a bit of a shambles during his tenure so he didn’t have genuine competition or wasn’t really pushed as past managers were?

I don’t know, sorry I don’t follow the SPL closely.

    Thanks again.

So I think the first 2 seasons he can be forgiven as he was still building his squad. I do accept that he should maybe have won a cup during they first 2 seasons but Celtic were still stronger. Celtic we’re only a shambles last season, and even at that, they were only a shambles because we made them look like a shambles. We lost 2 disappointing cup ties last season when Celtic were already out so that is disappointing but he said himself he wanted to do better in the cups

Did Gerrard develop and improve many players during his time at Rangers? Also were there any youth players who were overlooked who you thought were good enough for the first team?

Nathan Patterson is the only one who has broken through but to be fair gerrard has overseen that and don’t a great job managing him. Billy Gilnour was sold under gerrard but he wasn’t here for long at that point. He’s not great with youth truth be told

Hi Gaz, welcome and thanks for the insight.

Are the majority of you guys actually gutted he’s gone then?

Also, are there any players from Rangers or in Scotland you think Gerrard will have his eye on?

It’s split mate, I for one am looking forward to a bit of change. He’s left us in a great position and it’s looking like van bronckhorst will be taking over.

Gerrard had an absolute hard on for Connor goldson the whole time he was here, think he’s only missed like 6 games in 3 years, even when playing badly and he’s not signed a new deal here so I think it’s a stick on that gerrard will bring him to Villa.

Joe aribo, glen kamara and Ryan Kent if I had to pick anyone I think he would be most inclined to try and buy although would cost you a decent wedge, but that’s no problem to you guys is it lol

@GazRFC Can I ask whether you think your relative overachievement in Europe was down to playing teams with a more expansive, attacking style rather than the low block you often faced in the league?

Good question, not really because we have beaten teams in Europe who also come to Ibrox to set up not to lose, but i think there can be no doubt that we play much better football when teams actually try to play against us instead of this low block nonsense.

there has been times during his tenure where he’s looked a bit clueless when we’re sitting at 0-0 at the 70th minute against a low block.

at Villa, he won’t have many teams playing the low block against you so I think this will suit his style to a T - gerrard will certainly have a go against the big boys and not set up to not lose.

Thanks for this. Reassuring, and as you say, the starting point when he joined, and the performances in Europe do suggest he achieved a bit more than just a par performance in the SPL. He and his coaching team obviously have something about them.

We sacked Smith because his in-game management was poor, so good to know Gerrard will keep that tradition alive.

Yes and no, he kept neck and neck with Celtic up until Christmas his first 2 seasons and then just collapsed after the new year, still mystifies us to this day. But given the players he has had available have improved year on year until we eventually won league last season. I would give his overall league tenure a 7/10
