We aren't that far away from competing for that 4th place spot. We were in range for it half of last season until Jack went down.
I don't disagree with that but I feel like villas trajectory is just too far behind jacks to be certain. Qualifying for CL is one thing, competing for it is another.

This is interestingly poised now. It would be a huge statement of intent if he rejects City. Villa with JG is a serious top 6 threat. Maybe even top 4 in a few years.

I am honestly trying not to be 'that guy'
On topic, it would be a big blow to lose Grealish but not the end of the world. 100-130m goes a long way in this market in the hands of good owners. Clubs like Dortmund and Leicester have built their success around selling high and reinvesting. No reason why Villa can't.

They’re too deluded to notice the last 10yrs of rotting decline and seriously think they’re top 4 material
there is no discussion with them - they are always right
You would sell your granny for Villa to have our last 10 years
This shit has happened to us so many times. Granted, not with a player who has the same connection to the club as Jack to Villa.
He could well stay but there's something in this. I don't care if he was born on the Holte End, if City are in for you, you consider it.

I think one of the worst things especially on social media is the other fans goading Villa fans. Talk of you’re a relegation club etc just sets our fans off.
I read the ESR thread, I’m enjoying every second of this

Do you not feel that Arsenal chiefs are not doing enough to keep Arsenal a competing team? When I visited Arsenal Mania forum I got that impression from alot of fans in that is what they are feeling
I'm in the minority but I'm generally Ok with the Kroenke's management. They've spent a reasonable amount of money recently (and will spend big this summer it looks like), the problem is more who we've spent on.
The real issue is the people they put in charge. There are big question marks over Edu so the next season or two will be crucial.
If we got rid of the Kroenkes I would be worried about who comes in. I don't want some oligarch pumping money into the club like Chelsea or City.

Off topic but the decline in Aubameyang since he signed a new contract has been incredible (probably not the word that you would use!). Is that sortable or has he gone??
Million dollar question!
I think if he doesn't recapture some kind of form we're in big trouble. The problem with Auba is that if he's not scoring, he offers you very little.
He had a rough year with malaria and some family stuff so I'm hoping he can turn it around but who knows.

I think he'll be alright for you
Lacazette seems a bit of a chancer, good player in there somewhere but is a bit moody are doesn't turn up often enough, almost the epitome of arsenal, Tammy is better than him more often than not even if Tammy isn't then a very top player, he's good enough to potentially get arsenal back to where they want to be but then not good enough to fire them past that, strange how that works, lacazette on paper when they bought him is that player...
Watkins is better than both, would be a huge asset to arsenal, that energy and work rate is everything you're not, I think he'll go to the WC as 2nd choice behind kane
Alright, no need to flex!
Buying Lacazette and Aubameyang within a year of each other was a mistake. Neither really fits Arteta's system either. I think he would love Watkins.

most arsenal fans were fuming when we signed him for such a relatively small amount. many believed him to be better than leno even back then. i didn't hear 1 person say we'd paid over the odds. awful example
It's not over the odds because of how it has worked out but I think we did the right thing and I would do it again in the same situation.
Spending 30m on Ramsdale the summer after is a different story!

From what i've seen from Chelsea he does remind me quite a bit of Welbeck, and think he'll have a similar type of career.
This is exactly who he reminds me of
His 'underlyings' are very good apparently but he's never totally convinced me.

Grealish is everything anyone has said he is, but I agree some comments about ESR/Arsenal haven't been any better than the Arsenal fans they're using to represent a whole fanbase, but it's not everyone saying it.
That's my point though. Every club has (relatively) rational fans and idiots.
Arsenal fans on twitter can be a different breed though

Can West Ham or Arsenal sign him already?

Interesting to read you guys' take on him.
General feeling from Arsenal fans is positive but i'm not convinced at 40m

No I don't get that but if you think I am so be it I don't mind lol. I do not think we are better than anyone in this league and that we need to improve and keep improving not like Arsenal fans who know there club is falling and continue to big it up like there club is the god of football. I feel Tammy would be great for us and while I like to do Farsenal fans heads in it's all for pure comedy and wind ups.
On VT I don't think we have many people who talk like they do or see things like they do. I mean they do have odd fans from when I've been on there that are reasonable and good talkers but majority of there fans are Jackasses because they sit up in there tower over the rest.
Every club has stupid fans and I can assure you most of the gooners I interact with don't think we're 'gods of football'. They mostly think the opposite!
There's a fair bit of irony in Villa fans calling us delusional having dipped in and out of the ESR and Grealish threads in here

That’s fair enough, so from a fan perspective why is it taking so long to tie him down to a new deal? Money, or do you think he’s watching incomings before making a decision?
I'm really not sure to be honest. If I had to guess, I'd say it's his agent squeezing us for more £££, which I wouldn't begrudge after the season he had.
We have done plenty of poor business recently but we have been pretty good at tying down our talented youngsters. Martinelli, Saka and Balogun (who hasn't broken through yet) were all signed in the last year or two. From memory Saka's contract was much closer to running out so I was a lot more worried about it.
Whatever you think about where we are as a club, it's a pretty good place for a young player to play at the minute I think.

There silly fans are popping in here and they still think they are better than Villa and are a bigger club, what have they done since Wenger left. They seem to think they took it easy on us since we have arrived back in the premier, don't want to admit we were the better team. Point blank Farcenal you are Delirious and it's that delirious mad attitude that got your club in the messes your in. Somehow I just don't understand how they think they are a well run club still.
'Farcenal'
You get that you're the Villa equivalent of those fans, right?!
-
I don't think there's any way we are going to get both of them. If we did then yes, I could see Smith Rowe wanting to move.
He played a lot with Odegaard last season so I don't think it's a case of rotation between him and whoever else comes in. He'll play a bit along side them too.
Only concern i would have about his game time would be the fact that we have no Europe this year so there are less games to go around. That has been great for blooding the youngsters.

I've enjoyed dipping in and out of this thread
I think all signs point to ESR staying but at the very least his agent is courting the interest. I think you guys would have a much better chance if he hadn't broken into the team fully yet. Even if we buy another 10 he'll get plenty of time on the pitch.
He would be a great signing for Villa and a real statement of intent, especially after nabbing Buendia but I think it would be an odd move for ESR.
