  1. Big fan of Buendia and whilst I can get frustrated when he turns the ball over cheaply, that's the risk/reward factor with him.

Our game against Brentford was a perfect example of things not coming off for him, but he was consistently pushing forward and trying to make things happen. He WANTS the ball and will seek it out if he's be out of the play for a while. He's also made some wonderful passes that he not been capitalised on by the receiver, and because those haven't been converted into goals, he gets very little recognition for that work.

  2. Every week I watch the opposition do a better job on corners, set pieces and crosses...WTF does this guy actually do??

The amount of times we have a corner that either doesn't hit a target or is just completely off target is gobsmacking for professional footballers. Seen better Corners at park football in Australia

You’re free now Emi… the amateur has gone…

Looking forward to see him shine. Supreme creative talent… we need to build around him…

Not so bothered about Phil, he can leave for all I care… past it…

Perfect scenario would be the new manager getting the best out of both (as well as the rest of our squad 🤣).

Could not agree with this more...

Buendia offers so much more than Phil. He is ALWAYS moving and putting in short burst runs to receive the ball. ANd when allowed to play his game, has put through some wonderful passes. Unfortunately under Gerrard, there hasn't been any movement for his to be able to create.

Yep. I spotted a few Chelski, Liverpool, England, and Argentina tops there.

Those who love football here will take the chance to see a decent side play Leeds.

I couldn't believ the amount of Arsenal kits I was seeing....

I thought we definitely outnumbered Leeds fans

Villa end tickets sold out in 4 minutes, not sure why I bothered registering my interest. Scalpers dream.

I think it was less than that for the Brisbane game. I was on and in the purchase tickets section right on 1pm and couldn't get mine - I was going for 6 and it declined straight away...tried for 2 and same thing. Got 6 tickets in one the bays along side anyway, so close enough to the supporters section.

Super pumped to see them in my home city and hoping we get access to a training session if they put one on too

  6. I have loved having Pepe as part oft he club. His passion is contagious and he gives everything for the team.

Yes, certainly not the best keeper at times, but hius xperience has been invaluable I think and I will miss him

Another thing that is forgotten, that he is one of the best penalty takers of all time (yes I mean that)..... If one of the games goes to penalties he would have to be on the pitch to take one.

That is very true. I don't believe he has missed a penalty attempt for club or country as a professional player. And he has taken plenty of pressure attempts too, especially in WC qualifiers.

I always remind my teenage kids (who love Messi and Kante) that my favourite player is the best in the world at Penalties 😀

  8. So happy to see him playing in this side at the moment. He has been excellent for us over the last few weeks and whilst he is not a starter anymore when everyone is fit and firing, he has stepped up with very little football under his belt and performed admirably. There's very few better in the air than him and he will always give his all for them team.

He has been a favourite of mine for a long time and I'm just glad he has been able to redeem himself in some fans eyes after some not so great performances under Bruce at CB.  Hopefully he can continue to contribute and finish his Villa career on a high with us going up!

A fantastic second half, which made up for the dreadful first.

Special mentions to Braveheart McGinn, the guy isn't human. He is such a top class player, he's going all the way to the top I hope we go with him.

Elmo, Jedinak and Axel in the second half were all excellent too. Almost faultless.

Jack was Jack, and Kodjia put in his best performance of the season.

Well played Dean Smith as well, superb management, and to get 7 wins in a row against 7 difficult fixtures is something we never would have dreamed of a month ago.

Big kudos to Jedinak who has copped a lot in this season for his performance or lack of (some deservedly). He's played very little football over this season and stepped in when we were under the pump and played well. He's not going to be a regular, but great to see him step up when required

  10. A Star is Born (2018) - Wasn't sure if I'd like this, but went along with the wife and really enjoyed it. Helps that I liked the music (Coopers character's songs were great) and I thought both Cooper and Gaga were great in this. Their chemistry was fantastic and the singing was all recorded live for the film

    Watched this in full.

To give it some context the coaches that are asking questions are of an introductory level and the answers given are not about the intricacies and details of how professional football clubs are run. They are designed to give some feedback to these novice coaches on how someone with a wealth of experience in the game like Smith has done things or what he thinks.

What it does offer is some insight into the personality of both Smith and O'Kelly.

My favourite question and answer was the one on the use of futsal in development. Smith answers that its effective in enhancing technique among other aspects. Then he says basketball is best because you always play with your head up. So true. I am 23 years deep into my basketball journey and peripheral vision is of the highest importance. I have never played 11-a-side football but I play Division One futsal and what Smith says is so true and has transferred into my futsal game. When I am on the ball, whether I am chopping it between feet, making a Cruyff turn, or a bait and take, whatever move I'm trying to make to create some space or beat an opponent, my head is always up, which allows me that extra focus on where I can play a pass or that extra split second to better place my shot.

Good on Smith and O'Kelly for doing this though. Grassroots is where it all starts.

I did my level one coaching badges under Trevor Gleeson and while the content was very basic having someone who's experienced the highest level the country has to offer is great to have around and shows the novice coach that the Pro was once at that stage in their journey too.

Great point on the Futsal question. I'm a massive basketball junkie and all my kids play. I have one playing football and another also playing AFL, and it has helped massively in their 360 degree awareness.

Both Smith and O'Kelly seem like very genuine and down to earth people.

There are a few key points here:

    • The board have changed the structure of the club, an overseeing director of football will ensure a long term continuity and philosophy for the club rather than the previous approach of ripping everything up and stating from scratch each time a new manager is appointed (this structure may well have put off some of the other potential manger candidates).
    • Smith plays a great football with a proper 'system' that suits the modern game. We have been crying out for this for a long time on here.
    • He knows this league inside out. He will have full scouting reports on every one of our opponents and know the strengths and weaknesses of each (including our own squad). This will be key if he wants to hit the ground running.
    • He is bringing John Terry who brings instant respect from the playing squad and a detailed knowledge of the personalities of our players. This is also key to hit the ground running.

He might not be a big name but there is a lot to like about this.

You've summed it up perfectly. Agree 100% with all points

Maybe a coincidence that brand got sidelined halfway through too!

I think the secondary characters have had weaker storylines this series too, the agent and him at the cowboys are completely on he backburner, the sports x thing was almost like a way of giving joe at least something to do, the ricky and charles stuff theyve left too late for that to go where its going

Yeah, didn't like Brand's character in this at all and agree about the secondary characters. They could dive into Charles's role so much more, but until halfway through the season, he was an afterthought.

Agreed, Mike.  I've really enjoyed it as something different (which took me by surprise a bit).  I've compared it to Kill Bill but even then that doesn't really do it justice.  This is a TV series after all, and it does what it intends to do brilliantly.  I'm not surprised it has been commissioned for a second series and I suppose a very well done must go to BBC America.

Stumbled across this show by accident, and it's probably been the most enjoyable show I've watched this year. Love all the cast and whilst I didn't love the ending, it was still not enough to put me off the show

Not the best season of Better Call Saul but I thought it finished strongly. Although waiting for another 42 weeks for the next season...

I thought Ballers had become rubbish at the start of Season 4 but they've turned it around with the past few episodes. Will stick with it now.

I'm still to finish Better Call Saul, but agree on Ballers.  Not sure what they were thinking with the start of this season, but the last few episodes have got me back a bit. The draw of this show was the background of the athletes and NFL. Going to some halfbaked X Sports theme, was a bad move.

  16. Just watched Leave No Trace (2018).  Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie are both fantastic in this movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. From the same director as Winter's Bone
