He will soon fade into obscurity when we sign him for £12m on a five year deal.

Please do. You’ve already got three of Ashton Gate’s all time favourite players in your team - Adomah, Kodjia and Abraham. Admittedly Albert was more for his personal charm than his all round effectiveness, though.

After Saturday I don’t think you should be too high and mighty about penalties and offsides!

FFP needs to be abolished. Its done enough damage to football already. Even the EFL acknowledges its irrelevant given the slap on the wrist Blues got (which i am fine with btw)

The Boro bloke is half right though, he may well the the only owner who thinks FFP is good for football. He might want to ask himself why.

Really? I’ve seen Alan Nixon argue this. But surely FFP helps protect fine old clubs from the possibility of rogue owners crushing them. Look at Bolton. I’m not saying FFP could prevent that, but it might help. While you have a wealthy owner able and willing to pump money in, you’re fine. But how would you feel if an ambitious owner overspent, failed to get you promoted and walked away, leaving the club in liquidation?

You can always assume that a new rich owner will pick up the tab, but the Bolton mess shows that a tipping point can be reached where the club is no longer worth the price needed to keep it going.

I can’t get excited about him banging in the goals. This is why I don’t like loans. You love them then they leave you. Just like Snodgrass. I’m obviously thrilled he’s banging them in but I’d be getting way more excited about his form if I didn’t know he’d be a distant memory in 6 months’ time.

He’s still loved at Bristol City. Always in the right place for tap ins and a brilliant attitude. Nice lad.

He had one small spell of excellence. The fact is he is not an excellent player at this level.

But two clubs currently above you in the table are apparently fighting over him. Interesting.

He just isn't very good. He barely touches the ball, his first touch and passing is abysmal and his finishing is vastly overrated.

But he used to be excellent. So what happened?

  7. As a Bristol City  fan, I’m disappointed that Sheff Utd seem to be signing Hogan, rather than us.

Evidently  most of you think he is pants. Yet most of us have seen him being excellent for Brentford.

So has he dropped radically after his injuries? Or has the “Villa effect” ruined another expensive  acquisition?

Aye, trying to find something to do in On Topic other than complain about everything tbh :thumb:

But we have offloaded some real dross in the last 2-3 years. There's always hope. Someone actually paid cash money for Bacuna! And Gestede!

Believe me, getting stuck with Kodjia would be great from where I'm sitting as long as we don't end up turning off the lights.

Fine/relegation/points deduction - yeah, whatever really when the other side of the coin is non-existence.

And I'm not even HALF joking you know :D The truth in that is more 70% ish - to 30% joking :D

From a playing point of view “getting stuck with Kodjia” is fine - he did well for us and we didn’t resent his move. The issue is more financial - if lots of high earners stay, can Tony’s Here afford to keep paying them all. If not, where next?

Up front I can see Kodjia leaving, McCormack getting a loan somewhere and us loaning a striker.

I think GK is done isn't it Bunn maybe staying on as back-up/3rd choice. Steer and Sarkic step up the order.

I can see Grealish and Adomah leaving along with Hourihane. Whether BB and Lansbury stick around I don't know. Can't see anyone wanting Whelan. If Jedinak doesn't go I think we'll see him at CB next year. Gardner Tshibola and Lyden don't strike me as useful options for different reasons. Leaving Green and if Grealish is off, him staying could be crucial, if only for some sort of hope for the future for us fans. Would still need a right winger from somewhere. And ultimately who knows?

Defense is just as big a mess. Can see Hutton and Taylor lining up for us next year. Whether Bree stays remains to be seen. Elmo may stay and be used a bit more advanced. Can't see RDL being here though

CB is our biggest problem. Can't see Chester or Elphick being here. Think Jedi moving to CB is more likely myself.

I can see a mid table finish in there if we can keep a few experienced heads. Who we can fill the gaps with is sooo important.

That's assuming we aren't stuck in a situation where can't offload any of them and go bust before Easter :(

As an outsider, I think your last sentence is the key one. You’ve been paying so high, the question is not whether other clubs want eg Kodjia, but whether any will pick up their contracts. Why would Kodjia leave if Villa are obliged to pay him £40K (?) and nobody else will? That is your millstone.

  10. Hi.

Although a Bristol City fan, one of my earliest football memories (around 1964) is a guided tour of Villa Park, as my dad went to school with Phil Woosnam. Spurs were the opposition and I still have the autographs from that day (I was 8).

Can we have Albert back please? He remains a huge favourite at Ashton Gate.
