  1. Delph has been a hugh waste of money so far. He can't tackle, can't control the ball, passes backwards or sidewards at best and can't shoot. He has time on his side but needs several good performances like Tuesday to prove he has what it takes.

    A tad harsh?

  2. with him having of played in already quite a few positions, which is going to be his best? attacking centre mid?

Box to box midfielder in my opinon.

Definitely, he has the engine to keep going throughout a game and is well schooled at defensive and attacking work.

I really hope it works for him here, I like the kid.

  3. Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has revealed Paul Lambert’s pep talk inspired their Capital One Cup win over Manchester City.

Villa claimed one of the shocks of the third round with a 4-2 extra-time victory over the Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium. Delph admits Villa were keen to make up for last weekend’s defeat at Southampton by putting in an improved performance against City:

“The manager gave a nice speech before the game and as far as we were concerned we weren’t there to give them respect. We were there to get the win and if it ended up with us having to fight with them and play a few tricks and to twist up the game a bit, we were willing to do that. We wanted the win and we were confident we could win the game. We are a young group of players, we have all got fire in our bellies. We are hungry to do well for the club, for the chairman, for the fans and for the gaffer, especially after the defeat to Southampton. It was important to bounce back.”

Delph was pleased with how his own fitness held up after coming through 120 minutes of football unscathed after a series of injuries. He continued:

“I can’t remember the last time I played 90 minutes myself, so it was a massive step for me.”

Can be a good player for us, think he's getting back to his best.

He was superb on Tuesday, full of running and constant thorn in their side. Hopefully he stays fit because he could be a fantastic player and a great asset to the squad!

  4. I don't think we have a set first eleven. There are certain players that are 'first choice', then others that can be rotated depending on opponent/ system/ form.

    First choice:

    Lowton RB

    Vlaar CB

    El Ahmadi CM

    Bent ST

IMO all the other spaces are up for grab week by week.

(I would put Bennett in 'first choice LB' but we haven't even see him play for us yet)

Agree completely! I think a big problem with MON was that his tactics and first XI never really changed whereas PL seems to set up differently according to the oppostion and player form.

  5. I have just tweeted a number of people about Villa fans' idea for giving Stan a standing ovation in the 19th minute in every home game from now on.

Like others have said, this weekend a fitting and deserved tribute was held by fans of both Villa and Chelsea, as well as Celtic today, and other support from all quarters of the footballing world has come flooding in. But this fight has only just started and as Stan is well and truly 'one of ours' we need to show him our ongoing and unwavering support in what will undoubtedly be the biggest battle of his life. By taking just a minute out of every home game to show our support we will be keeping his efforts to rid himself of this terrible illness at the forefront of our thoughts.

Those I have already tweeted include: AVFC Official, Support4Stan, Darren Bent, Andi Wiemann, Jack Grealish, Dan Harrison (AVFC website journo), Paul Merson, Jack Woodward, Rob Bishop, Tim Abraham, Matt Law (Express journo & Villa fan), Ian Taylor and Mat Kendrick.

Can others please do the same, as well as spreading the word on Facebook and other Villa websites, and we will get the ball rolling and this cracking plan will come to fruition I'm sure.

Thanks. By the way, great idea Trent.

Agree wholeheartedly, a minutes applause at every game is nothing compared to everything Stan has given to the club.

  6. This is to the "ballotelli song" tune

Oooooh Aston Villa, the mighty Villa, the pride of Brum

we've won the league, we've won the cups and conquered Europe too

we'll never stop believing in the claret and the blue

had it going for about 15 minutes non stop at the next gen game against Marseille worked well

  7. This make the link with us and Kasper Schmeichel more believable.

There's a link with us and Kasper? Awesome.

It's not really that awesome and why would he want to be a no2 here when he's first choice at Leicester?

  8. As of next season we will be based in section L8. This will give the group a more visible presence, give us an area that is more conducive to tifos and allow the group more space to grow in the future. We'd like to thank all those in L2 who got behind the team so vocally this year and encourage anyone who wants to stay near the group or be in the section next year to relocate to L8. UTV.

  9. I don't know why don't just announce where you'll be sitting. No idea why this group feels the need to do things in secrecy. This plus obscuring your faces in pictures, you only wave flags, hardly think you need to cover yourselves up for doing that!

Anyway, you'll be sitting in cheaps seats, so you'll either be sitting in L8 or upper K1 or scattered along the front of the lower Holte stand. Seeing as you wanna be noticed it won't be L8. It's therefore a toss up between front of the stand and K1! UTV

Were waiting till everyones got there tickets sorted it's that simply obviously we want the whole group together nothing to do with secrecy just purely wanted to be together in the block!

  10. An announcement??? I love announcements!!! The mystery, the intrigue, the not knowing until the spectacular reveal?!?!

I wonder if you will be sitting in my block. My guess is................they will be in the same place as last season.

    ok

  11. Most of the lads had season tickets in the holte just tried NSL on a couple of cup games, the proximity of the away fans is good and for anyone whose never sat there i'd encourage them to do so., but certain things weren't right there.

  12. It doesn't matter how special a fan group; with a look at me approach to match day are, banging a drum at a game will be a bigger embarresment than anything put out on the pitch this season.

    Do you go to games?

Had a season ticket for the last 8 years. Stood at the back of the upper Holte for 5 of them, now I'm towards the front of K5.

I posted when this group was first mentioned on here it would end up with someone banging a drum. If all you wanted was to create a better atmosphere, then why not go to the back of the Holte to join in and start off songs with the other guys.

I haven't heard the drum though to be fair or any extra noise from the lower which is kinda of my the point of not joining in with everybody else.

The back of the Holte isnt the best place for any displays tbh , otherwise I agree it would be ideal around likeminded people wanting to sing.

The drum isn't used like at Bolton etc it's more of a rhythm thing than someone bashing the shit of it so everyone can hear it.

  13. Im gonna agree about the drum, if I had a ST next to someone with a drum it would do my nut in. Its not needed at all, or it shouldn't be.

So, who is up for standing at the front of the Holte with a big megaphone to get the chants going?

The drum has been at games for a while now, it's not blasted it's just to keep rhythm. So people need not worry it's not the same as the drummer at Bolton who bangs it constantly in the silent stadium.
