Article on MOMS about previous managers all using the same fitness excuse, Houllier, McLeish, Garde... Bruce is no exception.
Sorry but it just can't be a fitness issue here. We've replaced the squad with "leaders", we've invested heavily in "fixing problems", but we're still struggling. The problems much worse than this fitness excuse

I wonder if this is what Bruce was alluding to talking about lack of fitness - that they are just too tired to press, personally I just think it is laziness and they are not prepared to put in that dirty hard work.
Didn't garde or sherwood or one of our other recent managers complain that players just weren't fit enough.... Have a feeling it was Garde.
But seeing as we've replaced a lot of the squad and the fitness coach... How would this be possible?
Surely they've been working at fitness since last year now. I could understand if they were demotivated and lethargic towards the end of last season but right now there should be no excuses about why the team isn't giving 100% physically or mentally

It's a risk - never said it wasn't. It's just not a big risk.
On the contrary if we keep this amazing form going we WILL be going down. You can't just wave it away, if we end up going down again it'll be a disaster for the club. So I would call it a huge risk, granted what's at stake right now.
You can't draw games all season and stay up. We need to start seeing games out.
3 wins in a calendar year is purely laughable. Being relegated to a lower division and struggling to get any more than a draw is laughable. Norwich and Newcastle are cruising and were badly struggling.
We're the laughing stock of the division.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or not.
It doesn't get a lot worse than Steve Bruce being in charge of transfers for your club in 2016.
Technically it'll be 2017 when the transfers will come in

Does this mean the whole back room are getting the boot then?
Thought we were looking strong on the training ground for once

Personally I'd give him the minimum of 20 games and see where we are and how things are going etc, you can't sack someone so soon into such a massive job of turning Villa around, in all honestly I still think we will finish top 6 but even if we don't, as long as we keep the faith and create stability for the players and staff, then come next summer with more spending, we will win the league.
if it takes two years in the championship to as we have heard from numerous managers change the losing and poisonous mentality at Villa Park then I'll take that.
It's not like RDM hasn't gotten teams promoted before, the guy knows what he is doing better then us, he is a champions league winning manager ffs, let's not write off his credentials, still takes some nous to beat Barcelona over two legs and Bayern Munich in the final.
Not good enough. He should have come in, assembled a new team and got them winning 4-5 nil every game. We should be promoted by now. Bring in Guardiola or Mourinho. Spend the cash Tony. RDM out!
... Wasn't even a ten games ago we were praising him for his clear out and the players he signed. Granted we need to be a bit more ruthless and turn draws into wins but we aren't getting duffed every week. We just need a bit of luck at this point.
Yeah we're all frustrated at the lack of wins, but too much baying for blood on here atm I think

We really couldn't even win a lucky dip at the minute.
Same old story - we've no mental character, no determination to either take games on or see wins out.
Sort it out RDM. Get some drills going, attack vs defence and have both sides try and win a game standing at 1-0 to defenders.

It appears obly Sunderland are interested in him at the minute, 1 year in championship on his current wages. To be at one the biggest clubs in the world?
Never rated him. The only upside to signing him would be to sing "nono nononono nononono nono there's no dandruff" during the matches.
He'll never be interested anyway
*edit* if someone can mention the fact that he's a bit flaky that'd be great...

I'm sorry but I posted that as a wind up on twitter and it caught fire. People are tweeting the Dr asking him for reassurance. Ooops.
Hahaha. That's actually hilarious. You'll be considered ITK in no time!
Just goes to prove how unreliable Twitter can be as a source

Yeah this is a new team that has actually trained together for a few days and started their first match yesterday...
Looking at Huddersfield they have spent peanuts but guess what? They have played with each other for a year.
Team chemistry and understanding tactics is being overlooked on this forum.
If we don't get promoted. We have to deal with it and try to support this club with what they're trying to do.
Do you think Leicester fans went into panic mode when they lost to Watford in the semi final playoffs?
We need continuity at this club and I hope RDM stays for the duration of his contract so we can have some stability at this club.
Would agree that we just need a bit of consistency. We've had four managers in less than a year now, basically three starting elevens, a couple of sets of back room staff and two owners.
That's anything but consistent in any level.
If anything we need a break from all the chopping and changing. Finish this rebuild and see how this season goes.
unfortunately Dr Tony doesn't seem to be the one to settle with the results were getting. He'll be demanding successes. Another big talk needed

Worst part about this is that if we continue to struggle this season Tony might either give up with investing so much money or just lose interest altogether.
Tonys in it for the long haul, but I'm fairly sure he'll be expecting at least a bit of an improvement from his investment so far. Today was just embarrasing

Don't understand what is happening....
Owner who has fresh ideas and ambition....proven promotion winning manager appointed.
Players signed who played key parts in promotion winning sides...Chester, Elphick, De Laet, Jedinak.
1 win in 5 and a terrible cup defeat.
And still the feeling the world's about to collapse when we concede a goal.
It's just like the premier league but it shouldn't be as we're not playing world class players every week so results like this are a bit more embarrasing.
Edit: This was what I expected to happen if Lerner was still the owner!
Everything's changed... But yet nothing's changed. I'm really struggling to understand what's going on.
Every time we concede one it's practically a given that we'll lose by two

Every time we conceed its game over as we crumble to dust and that is down to the manager
Which one? Lambert, Sherwood, Garde, (black), Di Matteo... They can't all have been at fault for the same issue.
The same problem has been ongoing. It's got to be coming from somewhere

Hmmmm a sunny retirement home in Greece..... Or Glasgow? Lescott might be lazy but he isn't stupid. Lovely place to hang up his boots AND get paid for it

As much as I love a good conspiracy as well.... Deisler did arrive around the same time as Tony.
But I think if Tony was to be on here somewhere he'd just go by "TonyXia123" If you're reading this Tony you might as well come clean and join in

I think the speculation aspect of this thread is largely redundant now that we have a direct line to Tony

A problem that no manager from the last how many years has managed to solve?
The article makes a valid point that these guys are paid huge sums of money to make sure they're fit and able to play.
The signings we made over the summer can't all have the same fitness problem as last years squad - elphick and jedinak not included.
i agree that there's a whole host of things going wrong somewhere, but how much can you actually change without getting any result?
