Our odds on signing him have drifted a fair bit in the last few days. Gone from odds on to odds against.
I don’t trust odds. We can all remember when the odds suggested Grealish would stay!

The atmosphere must be electric when you three get together!
Bet you love teasing each other about previous insider reveals.
Guessing you meet on Wednesdays, yeah?

Didn't we just sign Leon Bailey?
Leon Bailey played in Germany but is aJamaican National. So when I read “German” player I think more of nationality than where he/she plays.

Look at Liverpool - Mane and Salah both operate on the left and right of Firmino/Jota yet still score plenty of goals. OK, so obvs an upgrade in regards to quality but the premise still remains. As you say, our front 3 will play narrower as inside forwards instead of being wide/wingers although they will have the pace and running to provide more width when needed. I imagine DS sees the 2 Matts as providing a lot of width as well so imperative we get that CDM for covering those forward runs.
Overall a much more fluid system which will give flexibility and unpredictability - something we haven't had for years.
Couldn’t agree more. Formations need not be rigid and, as Liverpool showed, a fluid approach is needed to win at the highest level. A front three of Watkins, Ings and Bailey with Buendia, Mc Ginn and Luiz/Nakamba/new CDM behind would trouble any team. Anybody remember one of the goals Olly scored in the 7-2 demolition of Liverpool where he cut in from the left and placed a right foot shot well wide of the goalkeeper? Hopefully more of that to come.

Of course, because that would mean you were wrong and you don't seem the type to admit that, more interested to being a smart @*$# than contributing something credible to a discussion.
Excuse me guys but if you two want a tiff please do it somewhere else. I’m on here to find out about possible new players we may sign.

I went for Donald because I always thought Daffy is left-handed.

6 and 6…..double pivot
6 on it’s own….single pivot.
88….an unbalanced midfield
BINGO!
And I thought 88 was two fat ladies! No good for any midfield.

How do people feel about Boubacar Kamara As a DM option?
Yes please. Is this just a wish or do you know something?

I’ve seen the rumour about us trying to put a cash plus player deal together with Real Madrid for Grealish. Anybody hear anything about which Madrid player? Thinking it might give clues as to the position we’re looking to fill and the amount we are prepared to pay for it….
Grealish ?

No Buendia or is it a 4-2-4?
4-2-4 is just looking for trouble.

I personally think we're done with attackers and defenders now. I just hope we aren't going to shoe horn Watkins and Ings into the starting line up.
I'm just hoping for a brilliant 6 (Or JWP) which are hard to come by.
4231 or 433 are our best formations. Really didn't enjoy 442 today.
442 is not the right way to go. Our midfield would be overrun.

A false 9 or how Firmino plays for Liverpool is a completey different role to a No.10, even if they operate in similar areas of the pitch.
Yes I agree and this why I don’t think Ings will play as No. 10 in the way people think about Barclay etc.. We could easily line up: Watkins, Ings, Bailey (front three as Liverpool) with three midfielders behind - say Buendia, McGinn, Nakamba/Luiz - but I would prefer a top DM in place of N/L. End result a very fluid 4-3-3 with no fixed No.10 but we will have to wait to see what Dean decides to do.

Playing as a second striker is completely different role to playing as a No.10 or attacking midfielder. We haven't signed Ings to play as a No.10, if we wanted to buy a No.10 you can be sure we would not have bought Ings for the role, we would have bought someone who actually specializes in that position.
Ings, in a recent interview, has talked about playing in a “false nine” position. This is really how Firmino plays for Liverpool. They start as a nominal 4-3-3 but Firmino gets the ball in a withdrawn position and tries to play in either Salah or Mane. Modern football requires fluid play so I think it can be misleading to think only in terms of rigid formations.

Rather be linked to a top class DM, a CB to cover/challenge Konsa and 2nd string GK.

What about a cheeky bid for Grealish. You could probably pick him up for £40m now!
But Pep said he only paid £40m to begin with!

I think Sanson could well be the DM people think we are going to buy if he can adapt to the league quickly enough. Wasn't that the point of buying him in January?
The Villa website show Sanson as “attacking midfield” so doubtful he will be used as DM.

Liverpool play 4-3-3 though.
With 2 box to box midfielders and 1 dm.
It's the best formation imo and something I'd like us to play.
It’s a nominal 4-3-3 but Liverpool do not stick rigidly to it. Firmino drops deep regularly to play in Mane or Salah. What happens behind depends upon how you want to set-up. The combination of attacking/box-to-box/defensive midfielders depends on who you are playing but in any case needs to be fluid.
-
Interesting to think about the attacking options we have now. In a recent interview - at Villa - Ings talked about the possibility of playing as a false nine. This made me think of the Liverpool team that won the Premier league and Champions league. Firmino is nominal “centre forward” but comes deep to play in Mane or Salah - both of whom start wide but end up in front of goal and scoring! Just imagine having a front three of Watkins, Ings and Bailey with Buendia prompting. Whatever system(s) Dean chooses we will be causing problems for most teams this season.
