  1. When we cross the halfway line, it is comical to watch. No-one has a clue what to do. We either run away from the ball and hide, or run straight into defenders with the ball. Embarrassing stuff. It baffles me then that when we lose it, our defenders are all caught out of position-where do they go cos they don't support the attack in any way. Pathetic stuff. Need a bit more than Wes hoolahan I'm afraid!

  2. Lots of support and lots of "Lambert out". I don't post often but love reading the threads. Personally, I'm going to jump up on the fence (from the "Lambert out" side I might add). The football has been absolutely brutal on the eye since the man took over (I'm not saying it was better before that, just in case I get hacked down for that comment). The only game in the last season and a half that I can say was good to watch as a villa fan was Sunderland 6-1, not sure if anyone remembers that ;-) Anyway, it's the new year so optimism over anything else, let's give the crew at the villa a month to get a few new faces (not shite from the Afghanistan second division) in and see if lambo can start climbing the table. Up the villa!

  3. Looking forward to the game but on the other hand, hope it doesn't ruin my Sunday!! The joys of being a villa fan. I think we all deserve some credit for putting ourselves through this for the best part of our adult lives. Just watched highlights of coca Cola cup final 93-94, we could really do with some of that quality these days!! Need a big performance from the beast if he starts and hopefully we can man mark Rooney completely out of the game. I think those 2 will decide it today.

  4. Does anyone think Lambert is actually happy with our recent performances (as per his usual post match interviews-can't fault the lads, etc). I hope he's just doing it to deflect from the poor performances. Fingers crossed the crowd will give the lads a boost tomorrow and they actually give a good account of themselves. We'll badly miss vlaar and Delph for this. I really want a victory here!

  5. Very hard to predict the outcome of this. Given our pathetic record against utd, you'd have to say a loss is on the cards again. Then again, we've given them a serious run for their money once or twice in the past few seasons (allbeit still losing). I'm going out on a limb to say we'll win 2-1 or a 3-2 in our favour this time with 15% possession!!. Big ask i know but gotta be positive. Come on the villa.

  6. Jesus that was utter muck. Merson and Collins giving Lambert a possible excuse to use-maybe they were tired after the midweek effort. You'd swear we're the only team that ever played twice in a week. Should have at least had a penalty but we were still dire. Another waste of 90 odd minutes of precious weekend.

  7. Good result. Overdue. Wouldn't be too worried about having the lesser share of possession in any game to be honest-it's not our thing really-the more of it we have the more likely we are to make blunders. I'd be happy if we created and took a few more chances with the possession we do have. Feels good being top half of the table for a change.

  8. Tonev hasn't featured anywhere near as much as Luna and it's a lot harder to judge someone as not good enough full stop as it is to say one player is better than another player.

You can conclusively judge one player to be better then another from their showing against inferior opposition in pre-season? Ok then...

    That isn't what I said.

Did you not see the post match stats? Everton had more shots and more shots on target. Also had a clear penalty shout against vlaar handball not given. "On another day", if they had taken their other chances, it would've been a far worse result. I'm waiting patiently for this "other day" that we're going to perform for a full 90 and actually take our simple chances.

No but I saw the full 90 minutes and we were very unlucky to lose that. You say "if they had taken their other chances" but that's exactly what they did. Besides that Lukaku chance early in the game that Guzan saved they didn't really create any other clear cut chances. Let's also not forget that Barkley should've been sent off at 0-0 but wasn't.

Agreed-he should have been sent off. But it seems to be 50-50 with refs these days whether they give the straight red-similar with hernandez for united yesterday aswell. We can't be relying on things like sendings off and the other teams missing their chances for us to win games-we need to be more clinical with our own chances and take any "luck" as a bonus.
