  1. Im really suprised this one will be over 40k. After the last month of terrible performances I was never gonna pay to watch this especially at those prices.

Bet you'll be one of the first to moan if you miss out for a ticket at Wembley though (obviously assuming we get there)

  2. With 16 games left you want to throw the towel in when we only just dipped into the bottom three even after our recent form ?

A lot can change in a few games. This has to be the most negative post i've ever seen on this site.....and that takes some doing !

And although going OT I agree with this. Sunderland are looking safe according to some people yet are only two wins above us? We have been poor but whilst missing key experienced players all over the pitch if we get them back and add another two from the experienced bracket (from home or abroad) I think we will be safe

  3. I don't understand the disappointment of the last week or so. It was the first seven days we needed players in for the important Bradford, Southamption and if possible Wigan games. We missed that and lost all three - losing to Wigan and Southampton has all but condemned up to relegation so there is simply no point in signing anyone.

Save the money and hope a slice of it is available to improve it for a promotion challenge.

It was impossible before Wigan as it is the January Transfer window...We played Wigan in December.

Although I do agree with you we still should have enough to beat Bradford (anywhere) and Southampton at home

  4. Cant it just be the simple fact Bent has been out injured and isn't sharp enough yet. The first game he was fit for was Arsenal. If Lambert didn't think he was sharp enough in training he decided to go for a different option. This worked against Arsenal to an extent by getting a point, Bent still didn't look sharp so left him out and went with a squad that should have enough to beat Reading at home making sure Bent was ready for QPR the weekend?

  5. What about Parker on loan? Has been out injured and I dont see him getting into an AVB team. Redknapp will probably be in for him and Dawson (who I also think could do a job for us). With Marin, he was injured when signed for Chelsea, they have been easing him in hence the low number of appearances this season.

  6. TBH 12m for Fletcher!?. The Toon got Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Tiote all for 12m. I know who I'd rather have! This also looks to be the way Villa want to work in the transfer market. I would rather we get in who Lambert wants at reasonable prices than panic buy just to please the fans. Hopefully this will see progress on the pitch as well as off it with regards to wages etc.

  7. Get well soon Stiliyan. Remember after Everton away in 2009 speaking to him saying take us to Wembley this season Stan - so he did twice. Good servant for the club - thoughts with you and your family

  8. I rate Bent but he should have at least 3-5 more goals this season - 1 at Sunderland, 1 at home to Newcastle, 2 away at Newcastle just off the top of my head cant blame the manager for that.

Still the best finisher at the club though and would be first on the team sheet for me.

Also he was in Tenerife last week as he was on the same flight as me last night

  9. It most be the most unwatchable football i have watched in a long time with him in charge

its really not though. it's not anything close to unwatchable at all a lot of the time. we fall apart due to individual errors time after time, and still panic and hoof the ball, just like we did under houllier and mcleish, but we're starting to have more and more spells where we have the ball down and are playing decent football

    Nail on head IMHO!!

Why are we protesting then... because of negative football?..... Erm well actually NO

Poor results..... but then again improving away from home.

Or because we just don't like McLeish because he came from SHA?

Wait a minute...I thought Villa fans have been telling everyone THAT isn't the reason fans don't like him ......it's the negative football....OH!!!.... round and round we go again...

I'll judge him at the end of the season and actually probably after a summer clear out of the players that are hiding behind McLeish's unpopularity with the fans. So maybe this time next year he will have had a fair crack of the whip.

YES it is people's democratic right to protest - but then again AVFC is not a political party - THIS is a football team and ALL the protests do is cause more negative vibes for the press to latch onto.

    This, like your post Julie.

I agree with this to. I also like the FACT is we get a point on Sunday AMC will have the same points to games MON did in his first season, with a weaker team in a more competitive league.

MON had Mellberg, Laursen, Bouma, Barry, Petrov, Baros and Angel as well as Sorenson, Gabby and Steven Davis who had just won fans and players palyer of the year? He then signed Young and Carew in Jan so really it shows AMC isnt doing that bad a job

  10. If we have the ball, they cant score, and i dont care if we pass it around the back 4 for 10minutes waiting for an opening, it's better than giving them the ball straight back.

We need serious work on ball retention. First half was an absolute joke, and the second weren't much better. So, so boring.

The problem is that at home a lot of "fans" immediately start moaning when we're doing this. A lot of people don't see ball retention as a good thing. They just wanna see us "get it up the field with pace" regardless of how often that actually works. 4 years of high tempo kick and rush (but still kick and rush) football under MON is the cause of this.

I absolutely agree with you though.

Agree with this, except second half i thought was much improved. Really annoys me at games where people moan we dont keep the ball, then when we pass back, or sideways through defence, they then moan again that were not going forward

  11. Great news he's injured.

    glad he's injured....
Is it only me who is sickened to see people rejoicing that one of our players is injured?

    shakehead.gif

Especially as he was probably our best player last season until he got injured against spurs and was looking decent this season and wanting to play for the club

  12. People saying who would we get for 1million i think are looking at it wrong. Its where you put the extra million. Say we had 20 million to spend for 3 players and you've set 9million for nzogbia then 8million for say Parker and 3million for hutton (these are examples) then the one million that gets added on to the nzogbia fee means you have 1 million less for either parker or hutton therefore making all 3 transfers less possible and having to go after a plan B or C somewhere else that's why im guessing they are haggling

Except we've been told only one more major transfer.

We've also been told transfer news like "we wont sign a striker" you could then break the 8 million for parker into two 4 million pound players the math is still the same we may not be able to bring in as many as we would like due to the extra million here and there on players. I personally want him and think 10million is what we'll pay so should just get it over with but if it means other players cant be bought in after further assessment of the squad then we should continue to negotiate.

  13. People saying who would we get for 1million i think are looking at it wrong. Its where you put the extra million. 14. IMO we have approached say 4/5 people martinez being one approx 9/10 days ago saying you are on a shortlist and we would like to interviw let us know by 1:30 Friday as interviews will be the following week. Whelan has then came out and made it know Martinez is one but will most likely stay at Wigan all others have kept quiet as they would like to speak to the club. Interviews will then be held next week Monday/Tuesda with 2nd intervies Weds/Thurs and a new man appointed either Friday or the following Monday. All my opinion though and as I have mentioned before I think it will be Moyes

  15. I can't wait till next season, just so damn excited about what Houllier will do for us. Things have looked good already, we have just been unlucky with final results. Can't wait till it picks up though. And then we have the excitement of who's coming, who's going? Gonna be a brilliant summer...

I spend a good portion of my day thinking about all things Villa.

I love Aston Villa!!!! No matter what...

This for me as well i think we will improve an awful lot. Reminds me of when Redknapp took over at spurs this season to me. Season of struggle but no one really believes we'll go down then see the real improvement next year

  16. Caught between a rock and a hard place to be honest.

Part of me thinks he should be sacked as he's been shite, doesn't know how to motivate the players, has alienated a lot of our senior players and most of our fan base, and has taken us into the relegation zone for the first time in years.

Another part of me thinks that regardless of what's going on at the moment, he's still the most qualified, most high profile manager we've had in years. He's had to deal with a squad hit by the worst injury crisis since time began, and is only just starting to get a full strength squad back.

His biggest error has been in trying to play complex, possession football with technically poor players. He should have stuck to the MON system until he had chance to get more technically accomplished players, so things could pick up after january.

Either way, sacking him now would almost guarantee us relegation as it would put the club through further turmoil, further cripple our confidence, cost us the January transfer window etc. etc.

I'm not worried about relegation, maybe that's arrogance, so I'm willing to back him for now.

Agree with this i think you have to give a manager at least one window and a fully fit squad. people go on about Ramos at Spurs but he had added his own players and moved players on etc. I am slighly worried but two 3 wins and everyone will say how well GH has done turning it around/stopping the rot and be looking at snatching a euro place off bolton or sunderland imo.

However football as Roy Keane has said is a results business and GH has not been getting results

  17. It can't be beyond the wit of man to devise a way to get fans in and out of a ground without trouble??

The police are always useless in these events. There are maybe 20 games a year - derbies etc. - across the country that generate this sort of behaviour and atmosphere and I wouldn't have thought it impossible to have a special team set up to deal with these events that travels around the country when appropriate, even if they are supplemented by local police. This would ensure consistency and best practice and better planning. Probably too sensible for our forces to consider! And I would have thought the PL/FA would be able to fund this.

It really is about time that clubs that have this sort of following/behaviour - Scum, Milwall, Cardiff, Leeds and a few others - took responsibility and sorted it out.

And there all in london fa cup weekend that will be fun for the police down there

  18. I remember everyone saying this last season when we had them away as in they have to beat us sooner or later, they will be well up for it, we've relpaced our whole backline etc and we went and won. Not pretty but got the job done. Gerards record in derbys is something like not lost one in 11 years and has always been at the bigger club so knows how to handle that pressue, more of our players have been in electric atmospheres than theres i would say so i dont see why the doom and gloom at the end of the day its just another game against our rivals who we have a bloody good record against. Remember records are there to be extended as well as broken. We hadnt beaten utd for 20 odd years why cant we set a record like that against blues???

  19. 500 coppers and over 50 riot vans, plus the dogs and spotters according to my mate in the feds, more than double what there is for normal derbies

zero tolerance as well, gonna crack down on p1ssed up people and all sorts apparently and refuse entrance

I agree with zero tolerance etc but surely rejecting one/two people for being p1ssed will cause more trouble because as they leave the ground they will just get hammered by the same people who the police are trying to protect them from??

  20. I should be able to get 3 or 4 and will be willing to sell on the 2-3 I don't need to people on here. Face value.

If i dont get one despite being a season ticket and regularly going away I would be interested in buying the 2/3.
