  1. Question for the older posters- was yesterday's goal by Cleverley similar to the Mortimer strike V Liverpool? I had total confidence he would finish it. I haven't felt like that for any Villa player for a long while. It seems a perfect fit for club and player, I expect him to stay.

No Morty slotted his past the keeper - my favourite ever villa goal.

I actually thought this first benteke goal - as soon as the cross went in - towards Benteke - I knew it was a goal...

  2. Got to be honest, literally 2 minutes before he played that pass i said to my dad we needed to sub Bacuna i thought he was having a poor game....

    Me to....

That pass is top, top,  quality though

  3. It's perfectly valid to dislike Liverpool as a club and to look at events like Heysel, Hillsborough with a degree of balance. Aknowledging historical context is a pretty basic cognitive skill to be honest. Smetrov mate, probably be best to back down on this one.[/

  4. Yes Ive read it.

to be honest it just re in forces what i think. A  group of smaller and unconnected facts are built up into a whole story - the hot dog incident, the stadium being due fore demolition, etc, etc,  - on what basis is that article being held up as the truth ?

Im not accusing anyone of anything. I'm just saying over 25 years they have con cocted  an argument that now suits them - for example reports like this don't often make the public eye

"Several times both back then and since I have studied the CCTV footage of clearly identifiable Liverpool fans crashing one of the gates into the doomed semi-final"

no that's not me, its here

Good summary of more or less my thoughts:-

The illegally forced entry placed an intolerable pressure on that end of the ground – and led to the sickening suffocation of innocent people who did have tickets. While I accept entirely that the Yorkshire police (a) moved at the speed of a snail on valium to do anything about it, and thus (B) displayed all the bravery of a hermit crab trained by Health & Safety, later © doubling their cowardly amorality while trying to fit up innocent fans, I do not accept this lachrymose rubbish about saintly Scousers….any more than I would have turned a blind eye to the criminal behaviour of Mancunians, East London skinheads and Celtic fans during that sorry era

Brian Clough and Jimmy Greaves have said similar.

  5. More of the offensive garbage about Hillsborough from the same offender again, I see.

Hey - if you want to believe a report 25 years in the making fine.

I will trust my instincts - it was an all ticket match - to many fans without tickets = overcrowding.

You need to rewind to the 80's the scousers were very much the loveable rogues, - numerous TV series about loveable scousers generally being up to no good - but all in a way that made it ok.

Thats my opinion - I don't see what's so offensive about it - other than it doesn't fit the mood of today and tie in with hours and hours of campaigning to get a report that said what they wanted.

  6.

I suspect it will go to the last game - but who better to be playing than already relegated bottom of the league Burnley.

My only concern is if either Benteke or Vlaar get injured suspended.

Ive said this a few times. You don't wanna be playing a Burnley relegated or not, they will go down fighting and not want to lose there last game.

Hang on Burnley are playing to actually stay in the premier league now and they can't score or even draw games. I can see Dyche fielding some fring/youth players aswell just to give them experience.

No one will convince me Burnley at home on the last day will be a more difficult game than Chelsea away or Man. United at home. Benteke against Duff and Ben Mee ffs.

We have to play someone on the last day - and its going to be a premier league team - it won't be a gimmeee - but it could be lot worse than having to face Burnley.

Who would you want then ?

  8. He now has 49 goals in 97 appearances, which means he's one goal away from being the first Villa striker to get 50 in his first hundred since (I think) Gerry Hitchens, 55 years ago.

If he were to stay, it would be fantastic to see him and Gabby race to see who would get to 100 goals first. Gabby currently has 84, Christian has 49 - who would your money be on?

    Weiman !

  9. I don't think anybody wants to sell him, but realistically if he wants to go there is no chance of keeping him. He's good enough to play for almost any team in the world.

    Sadly this

the chant 'He scores when he wants' looks almost factual the way he is playing at the moment.

  10.

So both Heysel and Hillsborough were caused by the quality of the stadium  (that most other clubs had used week in week out with any such problems)

It seems to me that Liverpool pushed for enquiry after enquiry until they got one that said what they wanted. Effectively history has be re written to suit.

On the field they only way the will get back to former glories is doing what they did in the late 70's early 80's - blow everyone out of the water with a cheque book  - not so easy with Man City and Chelsea around - but that's the reason for their decline.

Have you even read up about either incidents before forming an opinion?

Yes - but I don't really need to.

To many in the ground without tickets - disastrous consequences

Liverpool fans charge at oppositions fans - wall collapses

No amount of evidence, leaning on people, finding any tom dick and harry to give revised version of events over 25+ years  will convince me otherwise.

  12. Today I became confident of staying up. Why? Because Newcastle got well n truly dragged into it and will go down with 35 points imo.

Nah - they've got dead easy fixtures - think they will win one of them.

  13. I whacked a fiver on Sunderland to win today so pretty much 20 quid in my pocket now.

They'll have to win at least another game to finish above us, two if we beat West Ham or Burnley so they're going to be excellent odds in 3 of those away to Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Sunderlands last 3 goals - last weeks goal was gifted to them - and today 2 penalties - Hopefully Everton will beat them next week.

  14. Odds still at 15/1 so still a threat

I can't see us not winning one of West Ham or Burnley - so long as as CB doesn't get Injured.

  15.

I actually think he's our best CB in the air, headed away plenty today including a few from corners. Good on the ball aswell, there's enough raw materials to work with on what's lets remember is still a very young CB and hardly any of them are a finished product at his age.

Agreed - but in the here and now - I don't think he is up to playing week in \ week out. I know we don't have much choice due to injuries.

Sherwood did take him out for 3 games after Man. United defeat.

I have no issue with him in our starting 11, I think he's a good defender with potential in year-18 months to be very good.

    Yep - good move.

Hes only in the side due to injuries - I just don't get the hero worship for a player who currently looks to be struggling.

  16.

Thought he had a great game today

Really, why didn't he clear the ball for the penalty ?

Seems to struggle with the physical aspect of the game. Wonder if he is suited to the English game to be honest.

Because he did, this isnt football manager where a mistake destroys the whole performance rating. Yes he could have done more but he dominated in the first half.and he wasnt the only one at fault for their goal

Yeah - but he gave Liverpool their goal at Wembley - Hes dropped quite a few clangers this season . In one instance today he lost possession and Lukaka skipped down the pitch on a very dangerous attack.

Don't really see the relevance of whether he was the only one or not - He should have cleared it.
