  1. At the minute it's Ashley Young keeping him out of the side. Young's playing so well in behind Heskey. I'd love to see Ireland in there with Young back on the wing but at the moment it's working well.

I could see that happening tomorrow since Bale is such a key player for them. Albrighton has done well but he's not as good defensively as Ashley and Luke will need help. There were indications against Vienna that Heskey and Ireland could work well together, if Ireland played a more advanced role than he was asked to in that game.

  2. How on earth can there be someone with such an AMAZING managerial record, with a brilliant knowledge of the English, European and World game, who speaks great English and yet people say they want a reserve-team coach who hasn't a contact in the game?!!!

if he flops the pay off will be huge

he flopped at mexico and ivory coast and the football at city wasnt that great. would be better than curbs or macdonald though. would take houllier over him

He was a huge flop with Mexico, due to him not knowing the league or country, but how was he a flop for Ivory Coast? Drogba was injured and they were unlucky to be in a group with Portugal and Brazil. It came down to Portugal playing North Korea before them and then they just had to get a bore draw with Brazil to make it through.

  3. Bob Bradley is a dire manager from what I've been told by a few Americans on the Football Manager forum who follow the game a lot and one of them a sports journalist, mainly centered around football. I just don't want him here.

If I was to given any name which I haven't done so far in this thread, I'd say Garth Crooks.

He's not dire, he's just not good enough for USA or Aston Villa. Most USA fans want to see a change. He is a good motivator but not much of a tactician. He stubbornly stuck to his 4-4-2 while it was obvious that the best formation for the USA squad was 4-5-1. It was the same formula every game, open with 4-4-2, play poorly and give up early goals, bring in an extra midfielder in the 2nd half and start to play well. That's why we ultimately lost against Ghana. You can't keep giving the opponent an early advantage, that was his downfall.

  4. It's hard to judge Leonardo.

    Either he's

    a) tactically clueless and a poor manager, as evidenced by poor result after poor result in Milan or

    B) he was seriously unlucky to walk into the Milan job at a time when their squad was deceptively poor and aging, but the amitions hadn't yet changed and anyone would have failed under the circumstances.

Think it's a combination of both, wouldn't want him.

It's B, plus they had a ridiculous amount of defenders get injured last season. In the end, they did about as well as the previous season under Ancelotti, with the 2nd best defensive record despite the injuries. He lost Kaka and wasn't really given much of the money to improve the squad either. They should have been more patient with him.

  5. Randy did state that deals would still go through before the transfer window closes so has anyone considered that he might actually be going to Milan to seal the deal for Mathieu Flamini? we have been linked with him quite a bit during this summer!

Or maybe he just sent his private jet to pick up Flamini (and Ronaldinho. :P )

    He never does that either.

Didn't he do that with Baros/Carew or am I imagining things?

  7. Money has never been the problem for Lerner with the Browns. He probably pays more to coaches and executives than any other team because most of the names on the payroll have been fired and replaced.(that may not be very reassuring) He has gone for the "hot" name in the past and it hasn't worked out. He finally hired both a very experienced and successful team president and GM in December.

  8. Keane looked really bad last night. He's well past his best and would be a poor buy. I expect them to offload him and bring in another striker asap so they are ready for the Champions League. Spurs overall played poorly and should have been down by 3 goals by half time. They came back thanks to 2 bad mistakes by the Red Bulls backup defense.

  9. Is Petrov undroppable? Whenever someone mentions a CM possibility, someone else says something like "oh, he couldn't play with Stan." Petrov is slow and he's going to keep slowing down. His passing is pretty simple and he does not offer much else to the team in terms of goals or creating chances. I still like him as a squad player but hopefully we get someone more dynamic.
