^ love this, got to go all out for Jedinak now

Aston Villa fans have been placed on red alert after a report from the Daily Mail emerged on Tuesday which claimed that Crystal Palace are looking for a buyer for experienced midfielder Mile Jedinak.

Jedinak has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park under Alan Pardew, playing greatly reduced roles in the last two years as the Eagles look to kick on and add more quality to their starting XI.

  2. Looks so much better on the shirt than the current one does. Look at this:

New one looks so much classier, prepared font looked awful anyway.

  4.

And who`s fault is it that we have no depth to our squad ?

We had the quantity but not the quality as Lambert just bought second rate dross.

What the hell was he supposed to do? People in this thread just baffle me

  5. answer this..if villa wont pay for marc £35k a week..why do you think villa will hire barry & lescott ? ,the bomb squad is back!

Maybe because he didn't deem Albrighton worth 35k a week? and I for one have to agree with him. The bomb squad is back out of necessity, we'll be paying their final year wages regardless so why not give them one last shot, worse comes to worse they are back in the bomb squad by the end of the pre-season, but if not we get something for our money and the likes of N'zog and Bent pay us back a little towards their fees.

Kozak and Okore will add a lot being back in our first team setup, Lambert will have sold villa to them when he signed them, and surely after frustrating injuries and the fact we've struggled to replace Benteke when injured and neither Clark nor Baker cementing that second center back position, both players will have a position and something to aspire towards and fight for.

It's not all doom and gloom, Delph, Gabby and Vlaar will have signed contracts by the end of pre-season I am sure of it, and if Lambert is given say £12 million to buy two players I think we'll be in an optimistic place come the start of the season, and i'm sure prospective new owners would feel the same.

  6. I personally set the bar pretty high when it comes to what I expect from this great club and I certainly wouldn't have those expectations lowered by another supporter.

As supporters for me we deserve way better than what has been served up over the last 4 years. All things considered and combined - fan base, income, history, location then this club as a bare minimum should comfortably be looking at no worse than top 8, competing for a top 6 finish and be competitive in the cup competitions.

You aren't as bad as some of the people on here in terms of expectations but you are still deluded. For us to compete with top 6 and "comfortably finish in the top 8" lol, we would have to finish higher than all of these.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham - (Obviously, but that is the top 5 taken, much better squads, much more money)

Man Utd, Everton and Even Newcastle all have more money to spend than us and have better more experienced squads so in this position we couldn't realistically hope to compete for a full season with them and definitely not EXPECT to finish in place of one of them.

Then you have teams like Southampton, Swansea and West Ham. The former and latter spending much more than us this season, and low and behold look where we are currently? roughly near these guys bar Southampton who have had a solid season. Now to me that is progression and I firmly believe this is the sort of position we will finish in.

People need to stop being so critical, use their brains for a few minutes and actually think of the scale of job Lambert was given when he chose to join us on this plan and be REALISTIC in the sense that he has dealt with our biggest fault last season of our leaky defence whilst being hindered by losing his most hopeful defensive signing and turned us back into a mid table team which we definitely WEREN'T last season.

If we are still saying this sort of thing next season and still have the occasional scare of relegation then I personally will be a little more disappointed, but even then I would say finishing 8th/9th next year with a half decent cup run is the BEST we can hope for and if you think otherwise you are deluded.

  7. Meh not a bad buy, hopefully this still means we'll be getting a permanent deal done for someone else in midfield. Will bring experience and hopefully with his age and lack of opportunities at Chelsea he will have something to prove. Feel bad for Bennett in particular, Luna has had the season to show his stuff and hasn't really done it, so was due a break from the first team anyway, Bennett though was solid towards the end of last season and it won't be long before he's back from his injury.

Anywho he's 24, English, possibility of a clause in his contract due to competition at Chelsea and covering a position we've been struggling with that has been targeted by other teams repeatedly all season.

    Not bad!

  8.

And you know Lambert's priorities in terms of positions how exactly? I agree from our perspective that some other positions would seem more pressing but we were saying the same last summer when he spent money on Benteke who it seemed like we didn't really need compared to other positions. So I'm happy to let Lambert target whatever he thinks will improve us.

Am I excited about this player? Not especially because I've never seen him play but I am excited about the prospect of new arrivals in general and us hopefully getting better. One thing we should have learned over the last few years is that buying experience and names sometimes is far worse than buying players with less well known less experienced players.

We lacked width last season so perhaps that is something Lambert is looking to change.

Or perhaps ideally he would have moved for this player much later on in the window when other positions had been sorted but Celtic's move has forced his hand.

    Who knows.

But I certainly don't see anything for us not to be happy about with looking to improve the side and I'm happy to back Lambert's judgement in that regard.

If you read the post properly - I said IMO - I will accept your apologies !

I am still not convinced we are in for this player - on planet lerner, £2.6m* - Is a big fee, for a player who seems to be only a fringe player.

*I accept that figure may not be accurate - but at the moment, and for consistency - that's all we have.

Are you serious? we are a premiership team with a billionaire owner. £2.6m is nothing. We've recently rid of 3 high earners too and this lad won't be on massive wages. I'd be extremely worried if Lambert was only allowed to spend £2.6m if the player is top draw finished article, we'd be screwed.

  9. That west ham shirt is reallly nice. Don't see how anyone could disagree, even that looks a better fit than the macron kits straight off the bat, one of my major ircs with it. Will be interesting to see with that they come up with though. Sky blue or black away shirt please.

  10. The more I think about it, if someone came in and offered us £28 million for Benteke i'd take it. Lambert can do a lot with that and turn us from a team who needs all of Benteke's goals to have a chance of winning a game to a team who can sneak by with fewer. That could then be Lambert's transfer kitty with wages seperate to that.

    - Splurge £9-10 million on a forward.

    - 3 £6 million players dotted around and we're looking at a stronger team altogether.

  11. Why do people keep suggesting players like Skrtel/Parker. Not going to happen! High wages and exactly the time of players we are trying to rid of from our own team (maybe not quite as useful but still). Lambert wants young players with a potential to improve, not quick 2 year signings to steady the ship.

  12.

Lambert for the first 4-5 months didn't do a good job at all. He had a lot to turn around but he couldn't find a team that best suited the teams qualities, 3-5-2 overall was dysmal, while earlier on in the season, a narrow diamond type shape in the midfield also didn't work. I think both formations lacked width and pace in those channel areas. Since february, that midfield base of Westwood and Delph has been excellent and Gabby, Weimann and Benteke as a front three have been exceptional. Pace, power, energy, hard work and a touch of class from Benteke which has helped bring the best out of Gabby especially. Sylla/N'Zogbia shared fairly equal game time as the 3rd midfielder, I think generally we've looked better with Sylla in there and almost a fairly negative midfield three, all comfortable on the ball and all good defensively but none of which are going to score or create a significant amount of goals, while N'Zogbia arguably may be too much of a luxury to have in that position. If we can keep onto our best players and Lambert sticks with what's been working at the back end of the season and can add in each area of the pitch, left sided defence and a midfielder who can score and create goals (I know, difficult) then next year is going to be really exciting.

Well, maybe it's easy with hindsight to judge what PL was trying to do at the start of the season? He was trying all the time to find a system that best suited the personnel, personally i'm glad he has the balls to do that and fail than be one of those managers who has his formation and plays it regardless, only buying players to fit to make it work. It was a process of his thinking, the players responding to his coaching, players coming into form/fitness/back from injury that meant he COULD play westwood and deplh in order for them to come good togehter as a pair. certainly took delph a few games in a row to play himself in to thte form of the end of the season, and that's just one example. the 3-5-2 came about mostly because of injury (we had 1 fit CB at one point). although personally i think we could play three at the back with everyone fit and confident and play it well, just a 3-4-3. using the current front 3.

I'd prefer us to play more than 10 players at once, but what the hey, I have faith! haha

  13.

This is how I would like to see the team in August and the positions highlighted strengthened.

    717100_Aston_Villa.jpg

So CB, LB and CAM. 3 players we need to improve the squad instantly. Aleksandar Dragović (Basel) would be my first preference and would show our intent to strengthen our team. I have no idea who the LB can be, neither I care if he's unknown or young etc. As long as he's an improvemnt over Bennet - I'll take him

At CAM I don't have any preference, but I'd love if you tried to go for Georginio  Wijnaldum (PSV). Would be great signing.

So there' 3 transfers that'd I'd want straight into the team. I would also like 3 other signings. 2 from lower English leagues, young players. Plus 1 type of 'Betneke' signing, quite unknown but with huge potential.

The English players from the news so far, I'd take a punt of Luke Murphy ( Crewe ) and Dwight Gayle (Peterborough United). As for the European player, let Lambert do his magic  ;)

As first sign of things to come though priority is giving Benteke and Weimann new contracts.

Plus those signings and our current squad ( minus the obvious leavers ) we would have  backup for almost I think every position, which would be a good thing.

i agree with this, although id like to see...

LB, either move Clark there or Martin Olsson

CB, Abdoulaye Ba or Robert Huth

AM, Adel Taarabt or Jonathan De Guzman

    subs

Gk, Boaz Myhill or Wayne Hennessey

    CB, ?

CF, Adam Le Fondre or Alfreo Finnbogason

Myhill, Le Fondre, Huth, Taarabt. All overrated, overpaid or over the hill. Would take none of them at the club.

Olsson would be alright, but I can see blackburn still wanting over the odds for him and there's gotta be a reason he's still languishing at blackburn.

De Guzman is one of swansea's main men, so that wouldn't happen for any sort of a reasonable price.

Can't speak about Finnbogason or Ba.

I just can't see lambert signing anyone over the age of 28/29, and that's how it should be.
