  1. The mythology of robin Olsen…

I took my 13 yr old daughter last night. She was desperate to sit in the holte for the atmosphere so I agreed - L4.

A few minutes in there was a corner where it looked for all the world like Olsen had misjudged it and was going to miss it. We let out a gasp and shudder together. Fortunately he reached it and palmed it out of the area. We then got four word expletives from two men in front of us:: what the f is wrong with you, that was a good save’

fast forward to second goal. My daughter plays in goal and shows a fantastic tactical awareness whenever she plays. She dared to say to me aloud that she thought Olsen should have cut off the angle better and made himself bigger…again the men turned….

and then the fourth goal. I let out an OMG or words to that effect. Once again were told how Olsen hadn’t done anything wrong and there was no way was he stopping it. I said he got his hand to it, and also felt he had gone too early for a shot from that range. Still think he should have saved it. More expletives at me this time.

Should have been a memorable experience for her but instead this was all she was talking about for 2 hours going home.

We supported the team the whole way, just spur of the moment reactions and comments between ourselves. Yet when the midfield are passing to invisible men and Lenglet gifting corners away, momentary groans are allowable.

So this is the mythology. He’s either the worst keeper since Gabor the pyjama man or to others, someone who never puts a foot wrong and the rest of the world is to blame. The truth (backed by stats) is that he isn’t a top keeper. Too slow, not commanding, reflexes not on a par with most premier league keepers. He’s bang average and we need better for our number 2 (but I’ll whisper that quietly in case I offend again).

    Rant over!!!!

As mentioned he's only 18 and he doesn't speak English and hardly even French. He'd be a perfect guy to sign and then loan out to Vitoria or the Championship if possible. Never know with young players but he looks special. He does everything at twice the speed than the players around him, both on and off the ball and with his thought process. Hope we send someone to scout him. Apparently Liverpool and a bunch of French clubs already have.

Didn’t stop Gerrard becoming an England international 😂

Can see renaming of parts of the ground, the doug Ellis stand probably being the first to be sponsored and renamed.

Potential for 3 of the 4 sides to be seperate sponsored ( obvs not the holte end)

Generating an extra couple million at least, per stand per year would seem easily achieved if we remain in Europe.

The Dunkin’ Donuts Doug Ellis stand with D🍩ug Ellis stand in big neon 😂

  4. That TNT commentator. What an absolute word removed. Wonderful Lille robbed by nasty Martínez and his unsporting antics, not to mention football rules that are archaic! Honestly you’d have thought we’d been battered, like 40 shots to 0. Yes they were better for 70 minutes. Once Bailey came on they were cacking their pants…always felt if we grabbed one back we would have won. And we should have won in extra time, the only team creating clear chances. Lille robbed??? Non monsieur…you had a lot of possession but created next to nothing…

  5. How the heck does this xG bollox work? Fed up of hearing managers claiming they were the better team and should have won because of it. Same yesterday. Apparently wolves was higher. Let I saw Watkins clear through and miss; zaniolo great save; score twice…whilst those knuckle dragging dingle inbreds only forced Martinez into one decent save all game! Anyone looking on could see we were the better team for 60/90 minutes (I’ll give them the first 20; and first 10 of second half)

  6. Should be at least 4 points IMO. They knew they had breached previous year and haven’t sorted themselves out. Could have sold Pickford for example for a large wedge.

  7. I’ve give MOM to Diego. Just cos I felt sorry for him getting injured again and no one else voting for him 🙂

…seriously, it was noticeable they were better at the back tonight with his strength alongside Pau. Totally nullified mr blobby up front for them, who had looked a bit of a handful in the first leg. Horses for courses, but Diego has a big role for us against that kind of forward! Hope he isn’t out for too long

Revised numbers having reviewed the accounts on Companies House

      2022 2023 2024
    Match Day 16.1 18.7 26
    Broadcast 123.2 152.5 175
    Commercial 26.4 30.1 60
    Sponsorship 12.7 16.3
    Income  178.4 217.6 261

    Wages -137 -194.2 -194.2
    Other Costs -41.9 -66.4 -66.4
    Player Amort -82.5 -92.5 -92.5

    Depreceiation -3.5 -4 0
    Non-Recurring income/cost -9.8 -2.1 0
    Gain on player sales 97.4 22 40
    Exepenses -177.3 -337.2 -313.1

    Operating Profit/Loss 1.1 -119.6 -52.1

    Allowable Deductions 22 26.8 25

    PSR Figure 23.1 -92.8 -27.1

So I think the non recurring cost in 2022 was related to the Lerner Payment (I've put the interest paid in here for 2023 accounts). I think the payouts to Deano and Gerrard are probably in with Wages/Other costs as it's paying up their contracts and I think the payment to Villareal in compensation for Emery is in somewhere under "other costs".

I think this is why we see in the UEFA presentation such a huge increase in total wages over player wages. All the Gerrard/Emery expenses are in there.

*Note Commercial revenue includes the income from players out on Loan (5.7m). I don't have the figure for 2022.

Thanks so much for the work you put in to try to rationalise all this for the uninitiated! So the headline is, that if your assumptions are correct, we should be fine for 2023/24. But we’ll need to turn a small profit for one year in 2024/25 to stay compliant before the horrible loss year drops out of the equation???

Are people not rating Carlos? I don't think he's done a fat lot wrong IMO

100% this. Until mings comes back we are a a better defensive unit with him in it. The number of goals we’ve started leaking from set pieces recently has been alarming

. It is important to note that these figures are in line with the strategic business plan, and we continue to operate within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Are we just ignoring this bit then? I read that as we are covered

It does look as though they are confident we haven’t breached up to end of 2022/23. What we don’t know about is the current year for the next set of calculations. So if we basically broke even in 2021/22, and we have allowed losses of 90m plus on 2022/23, then that means we can’t have any more than around 15 million allowable losses this year (2023/24). Whether we need to sell quickly in June (with the extended accountancy period) to make that figure is the question?

But as a previous poster mentioned, would we really have signed Rogers in January if this was a possibility???

  11. Best defence IMO is when we have Pau and Carlos together with konsa as right back (who basically becomes a third centre half as the left back pushes up)

  12. Official comments from Warsaw at end of this most recent article from the BBC. Just wow, can’t believe they are totally shifting the blame. None of those arrested had tickets so nowt to do with them apparently. Club is rotten to the core…
