  1. Sven has a track record of winning things. And his management of England suddenly doesn't look that bad. His first year with City was good — he just fell out with the crook that owned the place. In his career he has dealt with clubs that didn't have big money. He might be the sensible short term appointment. Would he be more risky than Bradley?

We need somebody quickly and it might have to be a stop-gap!

Sven is of the same ilk as Mon. Bit of an ego, likes himself to much. We need more of a Moyes type manager, not a manager who loves himself more than the club.

  2. if the truth be told you can't blame milner for wanting a move, with the size of our current squad and the lack of money avaliable for mon to spend, we don't look like finishing in the top six, never mind top four.

people need to get real and realize that we wont be buying the likes of defoe, huntelaar and sneijder, but we will probably end up with keane, parker and mcgeady.

Almost a relief really. Got really excited there for a bit when Randy bought us and Mon became manager. Now sanity will return, it will be like putting on an old comfortable pair of slippers and reading the paper.

  3. if we struggle to keep any player who sticks his head up above average where does that leave us.

No club can keep its best players all the time.

    Could Man United keep Ronaldo?

My viewpoint on this remains the same: if Milner goes, we get very, very good money. If he stays, we keep a good player. I'll be happy either way.

But Manure got some mileage out of Ronaldo. We've had Milner 2 seasons.

even if we'd been champions three times running like United last summer, there will always be clubs rich enough to tempt our players away and/or offer us a price that tempts us into selling.

Fact is Im not worried about JM, and if we had been champions three times running I would probably trust the manager to know what he's doing if he decided to sell or buy certain players. Im just not confident in a manager who appears to be limited (my opinion) to the type of player he seems to go for. Sometimes I think you have to gamble a bit ie looking offshore, playing the youngsters a bit more, using the squad rotation a bit. Changing Heskey for Carew doesn't do it for me.

  5. Why would a billionaire weaken his company just so he could put another spare £25 million in his already bursting bank account.

I think you over-estimate how rich Randy Lerner is.

Yes, he's got a bob or two, but he's not rich enough for 25m to just be some loose change down the back of his sofa.

If you're a billionaire on paper only that would be true ie. Glazers, Hicks and Gilette. Randy sold MBNA for big bucks at a time when he already owned Cleveland Browns, so his liquidity is excellent. As far as I know his only other reasonably large ongoing investment is AVFC through his investment vehicle RAL holdings. Unlike the aforementioned paper tigers Randy is not short of actual liquid funding.

By the way I wasn't implying that £25 million was loose change, just that it is far more useful to Randy right now if it is wisely invested in his club. Randy wants to turn AVFC into a successful self funding business as well as a passion, and that will take continual strong investment. Re-investing any fee gained by selling JM would be part of that self funding process.

Don't begrudge Randy making a few quid on Milner. He is overrated, but if we struggle to keep any player who sticks his head up above average where does that leave us.

  6. Villa should have made Milner delay his holiday and let us know where we stand regarding his contract or Man City. 45,000 a week should buy you a certain amount of common courtesy. Would be be annoying to find out that everything was up in the air because he wanted his holiday.

alternatively if we want him to stay and havent accepted a big from City why make him miss his holiday. To my knowledge Milner hasnt handed in a transfer request or stated he doesnt want to be at villa.

Or stated he wants to stay at Villa either.

  7. Think MON needs help with transfers though as it does seem an area where he struggles, even though technical directors don't always work I think it would be ideal in our situation. MON could give the person a list of players for each position he would like to have at the club, it would be then down to this technical director to get one/two players for each position. This would give MON more time to do the things that he is best at eg motivating players.

If Mon recognizes he has shortcomings in the transfer market and asks for help, I would support him. If Mon recognizes he has shortcomings and stubbornly carries on, he deserves to be sacked.

  8. At the risk of being ridiculed is'nt it about time that Villa had their own song. I know "Bells are ringing" has been there, but we have have never had a great anthem type song, which is recognised as the Villa's song. Even the Scum have there own song and it's about time we had one. Their must be hundreds of old English/British songs which could be adapted/change the words to suit us. As long as it's more of a Battle Cry type song than say something like "The Bells are Ringing" which is American anyway. Why can't a competition be held, get the club involved, but lets try and get a song which is truly ours and its associated to Aston Villa. Make it law at VP that everyone stands and sings it LOL only joking. But seriously it's about time we had something everybody in the ground will sing and to be proud of.

  9. if he proves his loyalty on the pitch, he can stay. if he goes, it must for 18 miliion, not a penny less. THAT IS VITAL....

but i ask you all ( and mods if u can put a poll up it wud be nice) this question...

IF GARETH BARRY DOES STAY, WAT HAPPENS 3RD GAME OF THE SEASON AGAINST THE POOL??

    Surely he cannot be played????

    Barry for liverpool game???

    Yes or NO?

Definate Yes he must play, he could kill a lot of arguments with this game.

  10. I am a true Villa fan, but the climate was set by Fitzgerald for this transfer window telling us what was about to happen, ie top class signings etc.a To a lot of Villa fans their expectations were set in motion. I suggest to anyone of authority at Villa, who has the ear of the press and media be guarded what you say in that public arena especially when it concerns or can determine how or what fans think. Next time don't say anything at all, actions speak louder than words. What we don't know won't hurt us. What was said to what has actually happened seem worlds apart to a lot of fans. I myself believe and want for you Randy and MON to be at Aston Villa for a long, long time and I am quite happy to accept the ups and downs that go with supporting Villa. But and it's a big but, do not say anything, deliver first, we do not need to know , just do it, and most fans will be happy when we sign a player we did not know we were going to buy. If the end result is good who are we to argue, but if you tell us what you intend to do and it goes pear shaped then your going to get a gob full. So on conclusion anyone who has got a big gob and access to the media, have a word with them first, make them choose their words carefully otherwise the masses heaven forbid might get it wrong.

PS if the media are telling us crap and you know it, be quick to disclaim it.
