  1. Villa fans need to get a **** grip. We arn't United, Houllier is a good manager for us. How many Spurs fans were happy with redknapp? O bet Villa fans wouldn't have been happy with Redknapp. Think liverpool fans are happy with Hodgson? he's a step down for them.

Let's face it, we're not a massive club outside of this country, we're not going to attract managers like klinsmann or hitszfeld, so get real for gods sake.

Stop getting on Houllier and randys back before anything has even happened. What happened to just supporting the team?

Oi, less of that 'commonsense' bullshit!

Randy is a prick, Houllier is shit and I am losing faith in football, etc.etc. wah wah wah!

And to think people call gabby thick!

  3. No one knows a thing! This thread has become the 'make stuff up and post it' thread.

The amount of bashing of the club is frightening though, as it is based on conjecture.

Absolutely. Nobody knows, Curbishley could be utterly made up, yet people are still slagging Randy off the back of rumours, rumours for **** sake.

It's almost like Randy hasn't spent over £100 million since coming here.

  4. settling for second best seems to be the Villa way, when it comes to playing staff, and now when we go in search of a manager it seems like we are in the same boat..

Is Randy Lerner now being blamed for players signed? jesus christ.

Nobody, except a select few know what is going on up there, I'd suggest giving Randy the benefit of the doubt until somebody is actually put in place, I'd think everything he's done since he's been here would at least deserve that.

It seems not. Fickle isn't the word.

  5. I don't think so.

Whilst he did have a touch of class, Barry offered very little in terms of goalscoring threat from the middle and never took the game by the scruff of the neck and drove us on. Jimmy is a vast improvement.

With a centre mid of Barry and Petrov, I think we would have gone backwards, but I wouldn't have minded seeing Barry and Jimmy together. I think Barry is best playing alongside someone better than him, rather than being the focal point of the team.

Don't agree with that, Barry used to control our play, and when he played well, so did we.

At times with Barry in the team, we played some of our best football with him dictating the tempo. Look at arsenal home last season, we havn't played as well as that this season.

Young played better with barry alongside him.

  6. I don't think you see where we came from though Sting, before MON we were relegation candidates he has had to completely overhaul a whole squad, it is plain for anyone to see this would take time.

In the space of 4 years while building the squad we have finished 6th twice maybe now we are back amongst the big boys as it were, maybe we can start to look for that real quality signing, because they certainly would not have joined us 2-3 years ago.

I may be wrong but I think 93% of people wanting him to stay, says it might well be your narrow mindedness holding you back from something, which a LOT of us are enjoying.

He's also had to overhaul some of his own squad, due to a large proportion of the players he's bought being not good enough. The Chelsea match was excellent of course, but then so were the games against Arsenal last season, and we still fell short in the final analysis. It was the defence that cost us last year, I think it'll be the attack that puts the mockers on things this year.

We where 16th and relegation candidates when he took over. Who did you expect him to sign? Ronaldo?

  7. Seemed to have stirred a hornet's nest here. I make no apologies for my opinion on O'Neill. If a manager in any other walk of life had taken four years to get the correct staff for one part of his department and spent millions on doing it, he would have been given the sack long ago! I also believe someone said something about building a tipy tappy team on the cheap. Well, i never once suggested that we do that. What i was trying to get at was that we should sign technically gifted players to play in a more technical way, to be able to be less predicable where our threat is coming from. We suffered greatly in the last third of last season because teams just started to double team Ashley Young, thereby nullifying our main creative force. I just think with the money spent we should have better players in our midfield than Sidwell, Reo-Coker, Petrov and Gardner! We should also have better players up front to support and challenge Gabby.

I therefore can't see any success coming our way any time soon, particularly in the Cups, as apart from Ashley Young, we do not have any other player who can change a game with an outstanding piece of skill. To win a Cup, you need that extra creativity, or a very lucky draw throughout any Cup competition, which we never seem to get! I think it is generally agreed in this forum, that our team at the moment lacks creativity and has lacked that creativity since O'Neill became manager. Wenger commented in the run in last season that he didn't think we would finish in the top four due to our lack of attacking players and he was proven right. We must change our style to become successful and to change our style of play we must have the right players to do it. O'Neill has struggled to sign such players as he prefers to buy british, rather than also look abroad. His narow mindness will stop success coming to Villa Park until we get a more progressive manager who will make us more creative and less predicable!

He's spent millions assembling a team to play his style of football. What a waste of time it would be to sack him now and bring in bloody tony mowbray.

Let's see what downing does before slating mon for being too predictable.

  8. I'm just saying that if you find messageboards boring, you shouldn't use them :winkold:

lol you seem to think you can read my mind. Bit of advice for you now; putting a smiley after a sarky comment doesn't mean it's ok.

    Alright precious

  9. Yeah, but they're cardiff fans fgs! They go to places like Doncastor weekly, and the hawthorns is a dream for them.

I reckon we have the 3rd best ground in the league, behind these two. Unless you think our ground is the best in the league,

I didn't say we have the best ground. Who has the best ground... it's objective, so there's no point in commenting.

My point it that bolt on goodies from an 18 year old boy racer's Saxo wont improve Villa Park. You obviously view the whole thing differently to me, fine

It's called a messageboard, and you seemed to think I don't rate our ground as any good. I just rate the emirates and old trafford as better grounds. Little things like modern seats contribute to that. We don't need to be totally 70's.

    hmm, messageboard... thanks for that.

I haven't commented on how you rate VP.

I don't know why people keep harping on about the 70s. Like I've said twice, if the dugout needs updating, fine, but you don't have to use car seats. Since when have bucket seats been up to date anyway, I think you'll find they pre-date the 70s.

I'm just saying that if you find messageboards boring, you shouldn't use them :winkold:

  10. Why don't we install carpets and a leather sofa in there - instantly elevating Villa Park to the bestest ground in the world!?

Because that would look shit :?

Of course, Gizmo knows more about making grounds look good than members of MUFC and AFC board of directors

  11. I voted go the last time and i am voting go this time. Just don't think we play the type of football that should grace Villa Park. I don't think we will gain the success we all crave playing the Martin O'Neill way and he has wasted millions on transfers. He has taken 4 years to build a solid defence and we still lack creativity in midfield and that 20 goals a season striker. Even when such a striker becomes available, he refuses to buy him. Bent's success at Sunderland should be giving O'Neill nightmares and that very player might jump up and bite O'Neill in the arse!

I want to see the type of football that 'Big Ron's' 90s team played and gained success with it. 'Big Ron' had an eye for the player who could do that something extra and win matches. Martin O'Neill views that type of player with suspicion and although we have gained some very creditable results and league finishes, i do believe with a more forward thinking manager at the helm, we would as far as quality of squad and Cup success is concerned, be much further forward.

I hope i have to eat a huge lump of humble pie at some stage inside the next year which will end the 'five year plan.' However, i sincerely doubt it and i believe O'Neill has taken us as far as he can!

Let's get this right, you'd prefer tippy tappy relegation football like west broms, over mons top 6 style football?

I personally couldn't care less about how we play, rather than how many points we get. Who would you get in, Mourinho? Who plays the same style.

Trust someone to pick West Brom instead of Arsenal, Spurs, Man U, or indeed even Wigan under their new manager. :x

What im saying is that with our style of football at the moment, can you see us being successful in Cup competitions, winning the Premiership or even gaining success in Europe? Nope, i didn't think so. I'm sick and tired of watching the likes of Wigan out playing us, yet you seem quite happy to see this. We need a manager who will buy technically gifted players to play in a way which will gain success for our club and fans. We at he moment play hoofball and are just too predicable!

The point is, with our set of players, they don't suit 'tippy tappy' football. It would take a whole squad overhaul, with a new manager who then needs to be good enough in the first place.

Would take a few seasons to assemble a squad + manager of playing 'nice football'.

I'll stick with MON thanks. Chelsea and Liverpool do alright playing like we do.

  12. Yeah, but they're cardiff fans fgs! They go to places like Doncastor weekly, and the hawthorns is a dream for them.

  14. Tim The Villain & alike,

Seeing that you think players should have more comfortable seating on the bench and get with the times etc. Do you also advocate the wearing of headphones and being "chilled out" whilst sitting on the bench, waiting for a game?

It drives me mad to see players sitting, listening to music, when they should be watching the game to see how it is developing just in case they do manage to get on the pitch! How can a player get a feel for the atmosphere when he is listening to some speed garage or whatever it is they listen to!

I think that the dugout should be left as it is. It's called "sitting on the bench" for a reason. Until the day comes when they rename the non-selection of players to "Sitting in the chair", I think they should refrain from installing chairs.

it doesn't seem to do united subs any harm does it?

Personally, I'm not too fussed. MON doesn't use the seats anyway, so whatever.

lol Max, and I didn't even start this 'debate'.

I just think it certainly wouldn't harm the club and would help to make us look like a club with substance; a modern club with old fashioned tradtions mixed with new ideas.

New ideas, more like chavy ideas lol :)

I'm not even sure if the dug-outs need to be improved, but if they do surely it doesn;t have to involve car seat lol

Makes me laugh when they even have the holes for a four point harness.

So Old Trafford and The Emirates are chavvy?

Course not. They're both better grounds than Villa Park.
