  1. The Norwich game was the first away game I'd been to for a few seasons, I'd almost forgotten how awesome they are. Bought tickets for this as soon as I found out there was some still available. Gonna have to tell the missus I won them from work or something, this close to Christmas.

I think we can get something out of this, especially if Weimann and Benteke keep their shooting boots on.

Anyone know the last time we had back to back wins away from home?

Way back in November 2012, when we won 1-0 at Sunderland four days after winning 3-2 at Swindon. ;)

  2. Just home from a sodden Villa Park

Delighted with the point and you cannot fault the effort levels, thought they all played well including KEA who had his best game in a villa shirt. My MOM goes to Stevens who played out of his skin.

Can't believe the disrespect the arse fans showed to Wenger .

Have you just come out of The Bartons having been on the piss for the past 3 hours?

  3. I'm very sad and keep a record of every Villa match I go to. Sunday's match at Spurs will be my 1,245th game, having been to my first as an eight year old on 16th April, 1966 at home to Burnley.

Having moved to Shrewsbury 22 years ago and run junior football teams for 10 years whilst my two sons were growing up I went a good while going to hardly any away games, but Sunday's game will be my 84th out of the last 87 home and away league games.

  4. Away match pie quality competition results:-

Entrants were the three away clubs that had the best meat and potato pies during the 2010-2011 season, and have been tested over the period 5th February 2012 to 3rd March 2012 inclusive.

1st Newcastle United (Magpie) - delicious

2nd Blackburn Rovers (actually described as a 'potato and meat pie') - delightful

    3rd Wigan Athletic - disappointing

  5. so are we sure this is pretty much sold out then? excellent support if so, at 30 quid a ticket. and when we're this shit.

i ask because the ticket office told us we'd sold out of the 1800 initial allocation for newcastle. and then we turned up and there wouldn't have been more than 1300 there!

also, there was never 3700 in that end at wigan yesterday. that was 5000! only empty seats were a small block nearest wigan's singing fans. cracking support again.

There were only litter collectors in that end at Wigan yesterday..................if, however, you mean on Saturday!! :winkold:

  6. i'm always splitting journeys and fares. must have saved hundreds over the past couple of seasons. national rail suggest i go nottingham > derby > crewe > wigan north western at a cost of £30.

i'll be doing nottingham > manchester piccadilly and then manchester piccadilly > salford crescent > wigan wallgate at a cost of less than £15.

also going to preston on wednesday for a night out but can't seem to get it below £30 despite it being a similar journey to wigan, what with using manchester piccadilly and starting from nottingham. if anyone has any suggestions, it'd be much appreciated!! leaving 1445 on the weds, coming back 0830 ( to get back for a seminar :/ ) on the thursday.

What time are you getting into Wigan?

  7. See attached link:-

Car Park 1 is that referred to above, being for away fans.

I recommend, whilst it's further mileage wise, getting off at J27 and travelling south through Standish rather than getting off at J25. Did this for the night game last season and got there, and away, much quicker than on my previous visits. The traffic seems to get very congested on the retail park side of the ground.

  8. I really dont care anymore about the football. However I am going and I am going to have 2 pies at half time cos they are bang tidy at Wigan 8)

Sod the football - this is my first time going to Wigan... tell me more about the pies! :D

u must have the meat and potato pies at wigan. i love them :D

    Absolutely!!

My assessment of the away pies from last season was that those at Newcastle, Wigan and Blackburn were the best (all meat and potato).

Having just tasted the 'Magpie' at Newcastle again I'm really looking forward to the next two away games.

P.S. I'm not related to Richard Dunne!! :winkold:

  9. could this be the first game we not gonna sell out allocation?
Don't know. Says still on sale on Villa web-site. How many went to Everton?

1850. which was an initial allocation, like citeh.

I think the main problem is half-arsed fans who would rather go to the dogs instead of the game

Your brother tells me it's the first game he's missed since Man U away in February. After the two trains he caught from Nottingham to Manchester in March to see Houllier's reserve team in the F.A. Cup are you surprised he's chosen the dogs?

  10. BTW, rubbishy little ground, poor attendance, but a great show by the Villa fans. Particularly liked the counter chant of "boring boring Villa" as we ripped QPR apart at the start of the 2nd half. But they made a LOT of noise throughout.

They made a lot of noise? I am actually stunned at that comment, if you were indeed referring to Queens Park Rangers fans. That was easily the quietest away ground I have been to for a while.

Their support was worse than the Emirates, worse than Fulham and worse than Blackburn, hell even worse than Wigan. None of their fans in the whole ground were standing and they made little to no noise throughout - until we caved in on 93 minutes.

Our fans on the other hand were a different class, as you have correctly alluded to. I just cannot fathom how any Villa fan, in that away end, could have thought QPR made a lot of noise throughout. They were beyond dire.

I think he's referring to the Villa fans, VAL.

  11. I think the fact that I saw the decision and thought one thing and that others saw the decision and thought another proves if nothing else that sometimes the angle of these things can make it seem one way or another - fair play to him for trying to explain it regardless.

well no, it proves that you're getting in a right tangle. he gave a corner, not a goal kick as you previously stated. do you even remember the incident?

Matt, he probably didn't get out by Easter and is still locked up!

  12. i wondered what happened to Ash's shirt! What a keepsake...

Sex doll being thrown around accompanied by 'There's only one Karen Brady' was quality aswell

Amazing day out, I don't think the grin will leave my face all week!

Anyone else give the guy sat near the 'Slovenian Arsenal' banner a load of stick? He was the only one showing any passion for Arsenal and he couldn't stand us! Gave us a round of applause at the end, though.

Yeh I did, you must have been very close to me cos I was right in front of him, practically. The stewards had a go at him at one point, and he quieted down for awhile. Speaking of which, I didn't see a single steward in the Villa end at all! Which I'm glad about, kept the atmosphere really good, rather than potentially turning it sour.

Good point, I thought the stewarding and policing was very good on Sunday, in comparison to the heavy handedness I've seen at a few other away games this season, West Ham and Everton being recent examples.

  13. Flying Scotsman, Kings Cross.

Plenty of tits, fanny and the Villa! 8)

what time will you be in london? only 15 quid for a single for me down to st pancras. had decided to go to new st and get a lift to make it cheaper and get dad to pay for tube and that but given we've sold out i want to make a day of it. and you know how he'll probably want to arrive late as always. i'd rather go straight to the central though what with all the travel problems. can enjoy a few pints in the sunshine as well as i'm guessing the flying scotsman has blacked out windows!!

Yeah not so sure that'll be the same this year - with West Ham (and us) both desperatley needing the points. Still, thanks for the heads up, sounds like its the place to go before the game!

yeah i can imagine it being a bit more tense both inside and outside this time around. but then there'll be plenty of villa fans about and when we take full allocations to places we usually take over completely so i can't see it being too intimidating.

    no worries mate, enjoy!

All sorted, picking villan_avfc up from New Street at 9.24, drive to mutli storey at Lower Thames Street, District Line from Tower Hill to Mile End then bus for rest of the way.

VillaAndLoyal, we'll meet you and Ed in Central hopefully by 1.00 p.m.

  14. ^^ haha

thanks for the advice mate. going to it from nottingham so looks like it's going to be a mish mash of train/tube/bus/walk. nightmare.

Get an early morning train to New Street, Matt, and I'll pick you up from there.

  15. C'mon - where are all our fans?? Get to Manchester on Wednesday night and cheer us on!

2,100 a couple of days before a big FA Cup match, for a club of our supposed size, and for a club who looks down on our city neighbours with such distain, is absolutely pathetic.

4,000 is only our initial allocation. We should be able to sell it, simple. If Man City were at our place that initial allocation would be gone by now.

    Well said!
