Nobody wanted him... Everton did, Newcastle were interested, as were Sunderland. Played well today, starting to look like a top half winger.
No way did he play well today, better yes, but still very poor.
Nonsense. N'Zogbia had a decent game yesterday.

Dave Gahan
Not many better than this fella. The likes of Liam Gallagher and co ain't fit to lace his boots.
-
Depeche Mode are better than U2, and the Chilli Peppers are utter shit.
-
Who needs Barry when we've got Barry Bannan?
Er, we do. Bannan isn't fit to lace Gareth Barry's boots.
-
Jesus, some fans on here
" Very Poor ", " Stank the place out "
Absolute nonsense.
Granted, it was hardly a midfield masterclass but he was generally neat and tidy, he kept the game flowing and won the ball back a few times. Probably gave the ball away less than Bannan and Ireland too. 2nd half he wasn't as effective when Bannan moved out to the wing because he was covering most of the midfield on his own as Ireland was pushing forward.
Give the guy a break ffs.
He's been here since January and offered next to nothing. A waste of £6m.

Did well.. but so did Pires against Blackburn last season. I agree with some of the above I'll judge him against better midfielders or midfielders that actually close down.
Petrov has been consistently good in a Villa shirt since day one. The criticism he gets is usually from the numpties who think every good midfielder must score a 30 yard screamer every other game, and if you don't do that you're obviously shit.

I think Clark is the only young player who could be thrown in to play most games this season and do well.
I think rest would either fail straight away or like albrighton have a bright start and then fade quickly.
None of our current exciting youth have looked any better than Moore, Davis and even ridgewell when they first started playing.
lol
Albrighton has certainly had a better season then they ever had.
He had a decent first half of last season. From January onwards he was sh#te.

In all fairness during the period Ireland was playing for us last season, certainly under Houllier, 90% of the players were under performing/the manager was failing to get anything like the best out of them, so he was not alone in that. He was however made a scape goat most notably by the manager.
He now has a chance to come good so lets hope he can take it.
I hope you're right, but as I said his performances in pre season friendlies don't fill me with too much confidence.
-
Didnt we give him a chance last season??
Not really, no.
He had plenty of chances but he was sh#t.
He doesn't look like he's gonna be any better this season either if you take into account his performances in pre season friendlies.

I voted No, for me Petrov does indeed break our play up more often than not, rather than keep moves flowing, no point having a 119/120 pass completion if 100 are backwards. Off the ball he does try hard, I'll give him that, but he just dissapears for me running between our defence and midfield picking up no one half the time.
Last seasons surge wasn't Petrov related directly, I think it was formation related, we stopped pi s sing about and reverted to a 442, which we should never have changed from so quickly. Yes, in came the old guard again and we were stable. Just shows that if we want to move away from the direct counter attacking, soaking up pressure for 80 mins of a game tactic we need better ball players in the middle, which for me Stan is not the solution if we want to move up the gears.
But we're not gonna replace him with a signing, so what are we gonna do? Replace him with either Makoun or Ireland?
I shudder to think how poor our midfield would be with either one of those as a replacement.
-
He's unreliable because of his ongoing injury problems. I'd have liked to have seen him replaced.
-
We were at our worst last season when Petrov was out of the team. Once he came back in we picked up, so he can't be as bad as you make out.
Makoun has had one good game since he arrived and that was his debut.
Nice theory but you're wrong. Competitive games last season:
With Petrov (Petrov started 24 as follows)
P. 24.……W.8….….D.7……..L.9……..F.28……..A.36…….
He did not start in the other 22 as follows
(Without Petrov)
P. 22.……W.8….….D.6……..L.8……..F.35……..A.34…….

What do those stats look like when it's just league games?

The one natural leader at the club was allowed to leave on a Bosman
NRC
He was in and out of the team all the tim he was at Villa. How can you name a player captain if he wasn't an automatic choice for the team?
-

Concidentally, at the end of Petrov's first season, we were all saying exactly the same.
I wish the player who played against West Ham had stayed for the rest of his Villa career.
Makoun's contributed nothing to Villa since his debut. Petrov has been vital to us ever since he arrived. You only have to see how sh#t we were last season when he was injured and how we improved once he became fit again.
If you can't see that you mustn't have watched the same Villa as I did last season.

the Petrov bashing needs to Stop
Im sorry but he is shite. He deserves it. Just because hes a model pro and all round nice bloke doesnt mean we should sweep his limitations as a footballer under the carpet. Especially when i see people slagging Makoun off and hes been here 5 minutes. Hes shown enough in that short time that hes better than Petrov, so fair is fair when it comes to 'bashing'

We were at our worst last season in the period the kids were in the team.

thegoalzone Tom Ross
We can't say Blues news until the morning, but listen to the news on brmb, every half hour from 6am. Will post on here in the morning
Tom Ross' latest Tweet... I will make a point of sticking BRMB on in the morning.
It's just as likely that Ron Toss will announce that the rumours of administration are not true. Unfortunately.
They're probably not true, yet.

Given L. Young - Collins - Dunne - Warnock Petrov - Makoun Albrighton Ireland N'Zogbia Bent
Give or a take a little change in players there but I must say that is a good looking team!
Gabby will play up front with Bent. Albrighton will be in and out of the team all season.
-
Dont understand why we just havent paid the extra million. Seems a bit silly really...
Probably because it's a lot of money.
-
We overate our kids way too much. Albrighton's a good prospect and he had a fine first half to last season. He was poor in the second half though. He contributed a few goals and some good assists but his all round play isn't good enough for him to be a starter just yet.
I hope we play with just one winger next season. Playing with two puts too much pressure on the midfield and defence. Hopefully it'll be N'Zogbia with Albrighton making cameo appearances.
-
We've just sold our two best players and according to our manager we're only going to sign one replacement.
Just what the hell are you lot playing at?
-
If our midfield next season looks like:
Zog Ireland Makoun Albrighton
And we end up £25m up on the summer's midfield transactions... Surely that's transfer genius?
To the sensible crowd its excellent business mate, but you know what VT has been like lately.....
I wouldn't be too confident going into the new season with that midfield. Ireland's mad, Makoun's hardly pulled up any trees and Albrighton's a lightweight who goes missing for half a season.
We need to spend serious cash if don't want another season like last.
-
Milner, Young and Downing all sold within 12 months. Talk about a fire sale, this is ridiculous.
I seriously hope Randy's got other plans for Villa that don't just include selling the family silver.
What a horrible horrible 12 months at Aston Villa.

If you believe the twitter bollocks, apparently we've agreed a fee with Liverpool.
Twitter is full of bollocks though.

Well done the Netherlands. There's no place in a modern world for such a hidious and barbaric form of animal slaughter.
