not a fan if honest, looks OK in cup and Europa games for United vs poor teams but even with De Gea making regular mistakes he cant get near the team

You’re right, over half of his Europa League appearances this season involved not making a single save. He solely plays against lower league opposition where over half the time he quite literally doesn’t have to do anything. Then people laud the clean sheets as some sort of masterstroke. The less he does the better he seems to become. He’s bang average and struggles to even get down for low shots. Would expect him to end up being benched by Heaton. Just like he was benched at Sampdoria, and was benched at Monaco and was always benched at United. He simply isn’t that good.

How's Oztumer been this season? Loved watching him for two seasons at Walsall and thought he'd step up no problem to championship but dosen't seem to have made much impact at Bolton and now Charlton unless I've got that wrong aswell!

No unfortunately you’re right on that one. Looked class on his debut and early on and I still remember being blown away at this small fecker putting in a few bone crunching slide tackles. Has some clear ability on the ball but has really struggled at times to get involved and impose himself on the game.

Not sure how Walsall play but tbf to him Charlton have played some pretty dire stuff in the latter stages of the season. It’s a lot easier for someone like Oztumer to impress when he’s got Williams or Gallagher to pass with. Not much chance when it’s 9 men behind the ball and hoofing it up to a target man.

It was true at Preston but Alex Neil seems to have a strange formula for new signings which means it takes months for them even to get a start. They signed Tom Bayliss for over a million for Coventry in August and I'm pretty sure he's still to start a championship game for them and rarely makes the bench.

He's done better at Charlton, already scored a couple of goals and starting every game and will probably be seen as key player for them if Lyle Taylor dosen't change his mind over not wanting to play in the run in.

Hard to believe he's younger than O'Hare. Probably shows how well he did to break through in early 2017 when he was just 18.

I’m a STH at Charlton and you’re overselling how well he’s done there. He had a couple decent performances and then has been completely useless since then. He was getting absolutely bollocked from the stands in our last home match. He spent half the time diving and is remarkably soft for how big he actually is.

The only way he’ll be considered a key player is out of pure necessity of not having any other players to field. He isn’t in the preferred line up of any fan. Macaulay Bonne is the key player in attack with Williams and Cullen in midfield. Green is really just another one of the others making up the numbers at best in what has become a frustratingly shit attack after losing Gallagher, Leko, and now Taylor.

Haven’t seen anything from Green to suggest he’ll ever be anywhere near good enough to play for Villa.

It's already been confirmed he was suffering from dehydration and a lack of sleep. Almost like 55 year olds can have health problems when they subject their bodies to highly strenuous tours.

When we loaned Sam Johnstone from United all the talk was that Mourinho envisaged that he'd be challenging DeGea for the jersey by now he was that highly rated. They've only brought Lingard and Rashford through to their first team out of about 40-50 players over the last few years and let the like of Keane go. Keeping Axel is probably the right thing for them to do but the reaility is they'll probably spend £80m on some Brazilian centre-back who won't be good enough. I think we'll get him.

Talks from who? Because it certainly wasn't Mourinho. In fact Mourinho immediately came in and started bigging up Joel Pereira while not mentioning Johnstone at all other than that he can leave on loan. There wasn't a single person in 2016 claiming Johnstone to be challenging De Gea other than clueless people. Dean Henderson is a far bigger talent and he is barely even touted as such and he has the benefit of De Gea actually leaving.

McTominay is firmly a first team member and Mason Greenwood is as good as a certainty. United have the best record of bringing through academy players in the Premier League.

The reality is the current United manager is the former reserves manager who lives by Ferguson's mantra of youth. The reality is Nicky Butt has an ever increasing importance to the club and will fight tooth and nail before allowing a player like Axel to leave. The reality is Axel has been with United for near on 15 years and is a massive supporter of the club and dreams of playing for the club. He's already been promised a chance on pre-season and there is absolutely zero reason for him to force a permanent move when he's already being publicly backed by Ole.

The man Utd fans saying give him another loan at Villa for our first premier season, his contracts out in 2020 at man utd.

Tuanzebe's current United deal runs until 2020, and United fans on Twitter feel that the defender should stay at Villa to sample regular top-flight football.

    https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-tuanzebe-villa-news-16338693

That obviously means loan after he signs a new deal. The exact same as what's Dean Henderson is doing. He obviously isn't going to be loaned without signing a new deal.

Ole has already said he is going on the pre-season tour so we'll see what Ole has planned for him then.

That might be true, but equally there is a 0% chance this kid will get a look in at UTD while Jose is manager.

Jose has been playing McTominay who is a bang average youth player and nowhere near good enough for the first team. His record isn't great but he's spoke very highly of Axel and our CBs are poor and injury prone. A squad role isn't out of the question, or more likely probably a PL loan.

Either way he has been with United since he was a little kid and loves the club. Axel won't force a move and the club won't allow him to be forced out either. Which Mourinho wouldn't do anyway but the likes of Butt and McKenna would see to it he isn't sold. Especially as Jose's future is in doubt.

    How’s that mate?

Not you yourself, you make good posts and are clearly well informed on football in North America.

But some of the other posts such as the classic BWP argument are just the same old from clueless people who know diddly squat about the MLS. The form of one player who was a highly rated youngster at City and has admitted to not taking football serious in England and only changed his attitude after meeting Henry is consistently the stupidest argument to judge the quality of the MLS.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to talk about North American football without the incessant need for people to spout off their uneducated opinions. And the bizarre desire to exclaim how it isn't a top level league despite no one ever claiming it is. Which is actually a bit ironic from fans of a club not in a top league.

    I don't think so.

Bailly when he is on form is incredible defender.

He most definitely isn't and is massively overrated. Smalling is consistently better and Jones' top form has been better. Bailly has been largely shit for well over a year now. He is pure garbage in the air, he's a complete mess positionally and terribly inconsistent. A few good performances and some cool looking flying into last ditch tackles doesn't cover up the other half the time where he has no clue what he is doing. There is a reason he's been dropped, and it isn't because Mourinho has some personal grudge against him. Not to mention his shockingly poor injury record.

Glad to hear he is finally doing well when played in his proper position. There is also 0% chance you sign him on a permanent next season.

I understand Harry McK picked up a serious injury tonight ?  Any truth ?

Looked like he might have dislocated his shoulder while putting in a terrible challenge that was late and high and arguably should have been a red. He was a clearing in the woods all game.

O'Hare looked lively and the only decent player really. Why wasn't he starting?

The worrying thing is that you expect a CB playing at FB to at least win his headers. I don't remember him winning one, and he was clearly being targeted with their long balls prior to being subbed.

The stats say he won 6 and lost 3 against Wigan. Quite remarkable if you managed to miss all of them.

Echo this. Talking to a rags fan today they see him as CDM.

He will never be a midfielder. Being a midfielders is miles apart from being a ball playing CB which an alarming amount of fans seem to be oblivious to. He's looked lost the couple of times hes played in midfield. Unless you expect your DM to just be a third CB then he'll never be a DM at a high level.

@tommybread any chance of Axel coming permanently? Or too highly rated at UTD

No chance I'd say, not for at least a few years until it is certain he won't make it at United. He's also a local lad who's been with the club since a little kid so he won't push for a move. Rated by many as the bigger talent than Fosu-Mensah and been touted within the club as a near guaranteed to make it when he was in the youth ranks. Can't see the club letting him be sold even if Mourinho would allow it.

    • Thanks 1
  14. He can play DM as in he can step in when everyone else is injured and sort of do a job or do a man-marking job. He will never be a full-time DM though, not even at Championship level. The only position he will really excel at is CB.

Hopefully Bruce will have him starting with Chester and you can get promoted and keep him for a season in the PL too.

  15. I wouldn't mind if he returned to you but only if he was going to be starter at CB. No point wasting more of his time on the bench or being played at RB or at LB while Jedinak is played over him at CB. He needs a proper Championship load where he will play nearly every game and at CB.

His hungry hungry hippos opponent RoShaun Williams is another very talented CB who was dominating the u23s at 16 and I personally had him rated slightly higher than Axel and TFM. Unfortunately had a bad injury 2 years ago and didn't look as good in a struggling u23s side last season.

each to their own but that is never a pen in a million years!  he made the right call during the game and confused himself watching the replay. Give that decision to ex players as they will know the score when it comes to intent!

Any ex-player who starts on about intent is a clueless git because it has absolutely zero relevance to the rules.

    Pogba.

Okay he is not rubbish, but certainly doesn't justify his price tag.

He's been a lazy shit the last few months. Absolute embarrassment out there.

He can easily justify his price tag. But he seems to think he can do whatever he wants out there and not bother with any defensive duties and frankly his attacking output just isn't near good enough to compensate for that.

  18. I don't see how he even has potential. He is fast but other than that a terrible footballer. One of the dumbest players I've ever seen. I've seen people say he could play for a top 4 PL side. Laughable.

Let’s not forget he has only played at rb for Man Utd as well. It’s not just Bruce being awkward.

Elmo hasn’t been fully fit, we needed someone else there.

I'd certainly forget that as it isn't true. He has played at CB and DM for the first team as well and always played CB coming through the ranks. He is a CB, not a RB, not a DM. He is a CB. He can play the other two but they aren't his natural position. He is also a young player with minimal first team experience, he'll be inconsistent especially in unfamiliar positions. He's kept Alexis in his pocket at RB and apparently has now had a bad game there. Not too surprising for a talented CB being played out of position.

Yeah, but he's about seven foot six. I want him in the penalty area!

You're overstating his height a little bit but either way he has never been particularly strong in the air. It'd be one of his weaker attributes.

Tbf I watched some highlights of him on the youtubes and in some he did look like he was playing left back.

Bare in mind what most Man Utd fans know about their players is from Youtube clips.....

He may have played LCB in a 3 before, **** if I had the memory to remember every game I've watched him play. Either way he isn't a LB.

Bare in mind you could say that about a lot of clubs fans no? Especially when a clubs games aren't televised half the time.

A United supporting friend whose opinion I trust thinks he should be starting in defensive midfield for them. I haven’t watched him (or watched them for a while to be honest) but on that basis, even if he’s getting really carried away, I’m guessing there’s a good chance this kid will do a better job than Whelan, Jedinak or BB (no disrespect to any of them), plus be cover elsewhere.

I'm afraid you should stop trusting your friend. No he shouldn't be starting in defensive midfield for us at all. Matic is quite simply far better, its ridiculous to even suggest. He is a CB, there is no debate about what his position is, sure he can play DM but he is a CB. He certainly isn't better than a top DM in Matic. Despite being very poor this season, Ander Herrera had a great season at DM last season as well.
