  1. impressive peformance by Brentford thus far. I always worry in games when we go a man down, they seem to have weathered the storm though and not buckled. I liked the look of Baptise and Onyeka. They clearly love timewasting, as a team, however. That was extremely apparent in the home game v them a couple of weeks ago.

  2. I feel like this one is a potential banana skin for us. Rafa has got them playing simple football, utilising wing play and maintaining discipline. its definitely a winnable game, but also one i am wary of being too confident about. Townsend and Gray were picked up on a free and on the cheap respectively, and rafa seems to be getting performances out of them. I hope we dont give them to much time on the ball or let them shoot from the edge of our box. to win this we have to match them for effort whilst ensuring we have that cutting edge we lacked so much last week.

  3. Tough one, but oddly im feeling optimistic. This fixture seems to be one which we don't do nearly as badly as we did a decade or so ago, and we have gotten a few surprising and impressive results against them recently.

  4. Sheffield United appear to really be sturggling at the moment, and one thing you are guaranteed with Conor in the championship is goals and assists. Its a good move for both parties and I do think he can bring that experience and know how to a championship team, settling them down a bit and being the difference between getting 3 points or 1 in some games. Not sure they will be getting promoted this year, but there is the chance via playoffs i suppose. We kicked into life with that 10 game winning run a few years ago, so its always possible. Good luck Conor!

  5. If he has gone to Fulham, then I do think that will be a good move for him, bad for us. They are attacking and forward thinking, top of the championship. Guilbert will shine in the championship, prpbably get promoted, sign with Fulham permanently and then show fans of other teams in the premier league that he is a decent modern full back. This is a mistake from us and it will come back to haunt us later in the season due to injury/suspension and lacking an attacking impetus i fear.

The official statement said they agreed to play the first 2 games then travel back.

oh yeah my bad, my statement is totally null and void 🤣.... we cannot allow that to be the case, otherwise we will be walked over in future by them 2 and other players. I hope they do honour the agreement they struck

  7. Do we actually know, for certain, that there is a deal between the 2 players and the club? The official Villa twitter post mentioned that the players will link up with the national team, with their blessing. It didn't mention anything about a gentlemans agreement. For all we know, that could be some chancer on social media starting and then peddling a myth and that then being taken as gospel by the fanbase when spread via social media. We shouldn't start spouting off about Emi x2 until we know for certain there was indeed an agreement between Villa and the players to only play 2/3 games.

  8. El Ghazi was brilliant today I thought, on another day he would have had a couple of assists. Watkins was unlucky not to put that header in at the near post, i think with a bit more composure, or maybe a few more minutes on the pitch, he might have buried that one and won it for us at the death. Brentford looked like a solid forward thinking teams who caused us some problems, as we did them, so in that respect it was a fairly even game. Perhaps they were the slighlty better team, us having the slightly better chances, with the ings snapshot and watkins header.

I think most of us expected more than 4 points from these 3 fixtures prior to the beginning of the season, but when you consider the disruption to the first 11 today and that we will pick up some points from games we don't necessarily expect to win, its not the end of the world. Good to be back at VP again and hopefully another win against Chelsea at the bridge in 2 weeks time.

  9. At least they don't have ryan woods running the show in midfield for them....The performances he put in against us whilst we were both in the championship were ridiculous. Tbh, I'm not sure why they got rid of Marcondes, I thought he was one of their better players last year, definitely would have kept him around for first season in the premier league. I really do think this game can go either way on the day, we will have to be in loud voice tommorow and hopefully a bit more lively than last week. 6 points on the board before international break will do wonders for the confidence of the players and settle us fans

Do I remember correctly, it was him who scored against us at VP from about 40 yards 3 minutes after kick off in one of the Bruce years wasn't it?

yeah, that was a real worldie of a goal. he did used to score long range shots, but i doubt he will ever do anything like that again

  11. Surprised to see him making a move like this, but it could be just what he needs. Get away from England, out of your comfort zone, immerse yourself in the local culture and throw yourself into football to really reignite the career. Could be the making of him. More than good enough for the championship and I think that Sheffield Wednesday would have kept him around if they didn't have financial problems or their current owner. They have let a few players go recently that have been important for them in recent seasons such as Adam Reach, who is now at the baggies. Good luck Andre

We probably didn't want one as his value right now is lower than it would be if he has a good season in Belgium.

If Club Brugge want to sign him permanently, he will have played well, and we can ask for more.

thats a valid point aswell which i didnt think of. Maybe both parties will reach the end of the year and realise its best to part ways. Alternatively he could do awful there or not as good as they hoped, and a barkley situation occurs. Either way, good luck to him

  13. No option to buy, so perhaps Deano does indeed see him as playing a part in the team, either as a starter or off the bench, in due course. I think this loan will be a great chance for him to play regular football in a much less pressured and intense environment. The ideal conditions for recovery and getting the basics right again imo. Hopefully he can come back with a decent amount of goals and assists under his belt and raring to go for pre season next year. Depening on how successful we are this campaign, there could indeed be many more games which he will get a chance in.

  14. Hoping for a cameo appearance (maybe even along with a goal or 2 ;)) from the young Archer tommorow. It would be good if we did keep him around, similar to what city have done with Foden - yes he could have gone out on loan, but this way he can train with the first team, learn lots from them and enjoy being on board and hopefully getting minutes and experience.
