  1. I usually always advocate the intertoto as I reckon the chance to be in europe is worht it. This year however, I'm a bit more dubious and have voted no. Whereas before, we desperately needed europe to attract players, get money, and so it was always worth it. Now however, we all know we're headed in the right direction and MON wants a full pre-season with his player..let him have it.

I'd rather wait and finish 4-7 in the league in 07/08 and qualify properly for 08/09 than do the intertoto and risk early season problems.

however, Wainy mentioned a format that might mean only one game? If this is true then maybe.

The big question is, would we get in even if we wanted? Wouldn't we have to finish above quite a few teams looking unlikely at the moment.

  2. Without sounding rude, it's not that astonishing given that their roles are non executive. Most non executives get paid very little.

I am sure there are some options or warrants in there somewhere though!

No need to pass the collection tin around then? :D

I'm so pleased to finally have people with knowledge, skill, business sense, and general greatness running the show.

  3. i can't do short links but look at this for a goal by maloney, if he does stuff like that often he would be a dream signing

    http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-9064474911846837710&q=maloney

the first 3 to go an celebrate with him all villans :winkold:

That was a quality goal and would love to see that at the Villa. But you can't judge everything on one great goal and I'm yet to be convinced (far from it) that being great in Scotland means anything in the Premiership. Hope to be proved wrong though and Petrov is looking good.

  4. For me it would be a Trinity Road Stand all over again

Were you happy missing half the game becasue of the trinity road pillars?? I have a feeling that if Randy was here then, he probably would have tried to incorporate the mosaic and stuff somewhere though. It isn't black and white, there are ways to move forward with respect for histroy. From what i've heard RL knows this.

  5. "What's in a name..a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"....."not if it was called a crapweasel" - Simpsons. lol.

Seriously though. I voted Yes, because sentimentality can't block progress. Recognising history is important. Randy knows that and hence the talk about a proper museum, statue, star, etc. Scrap the Doug ellis stand and rename the whole stadium and get a regular source of income. I'd hope for more than $5m a year.

It will always be Villa Park to fans anyway, we all still call the Witton the Witton dont we. I wouldnt give a f@#k what i was called for 100m in readies.

Exactly, last year when I was booking tickets for a mate, even the woman on the phone called it the witton lane stand!

  6. I don't think it'll happen, but I wouldn't particularly mind..as long as it was something like the MBNA Villa Park rather that the MBNA Arena. I think if it did happen, Lerner seems the type to accommodate the history/fans opinion more than others so predict a compromise if anything.

Plus, if it brought in loads of money, who cares. I'll still call it villa park, so will you so who cares if the Sky introducer says....."It's the title decider and the trophy is ready at the MBNA Arena to crown the champions".....If that's said in the next decade, I won't me moaning about it not being called Villa Park.

On a similar but different topic..why did Man City's stadium go from the City of Manchester Stadium to Eastlands?

  7. I understand what you're saying PB, it's quite amazing how he is the favourite in everyones eyes and yet we know little more (if any) about his bid than any of the others.

    Very clever PR work

I think i prefer his bid, just because i'd like to put "RANDY" on my shirt. TBH, I think enough people have been in touch with Browns' fans to get an idea and though we don't know details, we base our belief on the way he runs them. (i.e. puts in good management and lets them get on with it.) As I've said before, regardless of billions in his pockets, a well run villa would be so much of an improvement. Just imagine....a marketing strategy!!!

  8. It's more like selling a car and the guy who's going to buy it saying, "put on some new wheels and a new stereo and I'll cover the costs when I have the log book and it's registered in my name". Hopefully.

I think this more a case of a guy agreeing to buy a car, but doesn't mind if the current owner uses all the petrol that's already in the tank before the sale goes through.

analogies aside, we agree the sentiment behind it....Wooooo Hooooo. Ding Dong the witch is dead...

  9. It's more like selling a car and the guy who's going to buy it saying, "put on some new wheels and a new stereo and I'll cover the costs when I have the log book and it's registered in my name". Hopefully.

  10. I was wondering whether he was talking about MON having money or the new owners having MONEY. Anyway, that Doug interview has finally convinced me beyond doubt that the takeover will happen (I know i've been overly sceptical!!) so down to renew on Monday (wonder if my seat's still available after the weekend rush!!). The missus is pissed off, but I'm chuffed!!!!!!

  11. This is all a result of DOL leaving. Yeah he wanted out and we didn't want him, but he also knew Ellis was the problem and I genuinely think he felt something for the club. not a lot, but enough to know we could be better. I said it a while ago that if DOL leaving meant Doug would then I'd salute him. I'm hoping I get to do this next week. MON is one step, but we're not there yet!

  12. his last act as Chairman

It better me. Okay,, let's allow one day of celebration, but whoever might be going to Germany/Holland I hope they keep the protests going against Doug. He cannot buy us off this time. I know some will say not to worry and that doug is definitely going. I have a feeling appointing MON may give him some belief he can carry on!

  13. god i hope the clearing in the woods dosent get the job we would be better with dol than him.

I'm no fan of sven, but with a new board and funds, he'd be good. A big name to attract players and his club record was actually pretty good with Lazio and others. I know it's not going to happen, but there's no harm in a flight of fancy.

  14. Does the no we won't option mean we won't battle but just merely accept it because I think thats the option i'm voting for!

That's what i voted for. Not much of a battle at all. More with a wimper than with a bang.

Every season until this one, I've been so positive at the start, and been disappointed. Now I'm utterly pessimistic, perhaps I'll be suprised.
