  1. It says this

    Randy on Villa brink

    By JANINE SELF

RANDY LERNER is on the brink of a £64million bid for Aston Villa.

The American billionaire’s advisers are back in talks with chairman Doug Ellis and Lerner will beef up his bid if he likes what he hears.

Lerner, 44, has been interested in buying Villa for some time but stepped back last week as three other consortiums broke their cover.

The owner of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns was also sidetracked by the annual migration of his gridiron squad to their pre-season training camp.

But Lerner, who made an £800million fortune through the sale of family business MBNA, still wants the Premiership club.

The fact Villa have offered their manager’s job to Martin O’Neill has also helped.

O’Neill was first choice to replace David O’Leary for both Lerner and rival bidder Michael Neville.

The former Celtic and Leicester boss has promised Ellis a decision by the weekend and, if he says yes, will join Villa on their pre-season tour of Germany and Holland.

That leaves octogenarian Ellis free to concentrate on a sell-off before the start of the season.

Lerner leads the race but faces stiff competition from Neville and a group led by judge Nicholas Padfield, who revealed last night they might join forces.

Padfield said: “We have been approached by representatives from other consortia. One is a representative of Mr Neville

    From here

Phew, i'll sleep better tonight now!

I can't take much more of this.

  2. On SSNjust now they showed the back page of the Sun and down on the bottom right the headline was 'RANDY ON VILLA BRINK'. they didn'y read the article though. so god knows what it means

Yeah i saw that, but Sky decided to ignore it, so we don't know what it meant.

Christ it could mean either way!!

  3. Desperation by two consortia this strikes me as.

Posh, I can fully understand your sceptism but believe me Ellis cannot now **** up any takeover. He is not stupid

Is that just your opinion or are you informed??

    I hope it's the latter.

  5. SSN keep saying these men are NOT conected with Lerner, but they wont report how they know this to be so, I feel like bloody E-mailing to ask them. Do they have mind readers working there!

Sky Sports are very slow with these things.

  6. if thats true 100% thats great news. but why were SSN so certain it wasnt lerners men? cover up perhaps?

I dont think anyone knows who they were tbh, apart from the chauffeur guy they had

Well if it's true what many on here say about Howell being in Ellis's pocket, then surely Howell would be correct in what he says about the 3 yanks being part of the Lerner bid??

  7. Don't know if it's been posted anywhere else, but today's Mail are saying that the three American's seen at Villa yesterday were not a new consortium, but were in fact a part of the Lerner team who have been in and around Villa Park and Bodymoor Heath for three days.

  8. If this delays MONs appointment i will not be pleased

    Same here.

The most imporatnt thing at the moment is to get O'Neill on board.

I hope Ellis isn't just trying to avoid selling or playing bids off each other again.

  9. Even the Cleveland news are reporting on Lerner's decision to quit interest in an English Football Club. Quoted as saying Ellis wouldn't meet with him one on one, and that Ellis wanted to remain in charge after the sale. I now couldn't care less if ellis drops dead. I feel like smacking the glasses off his effing face.

Are you on a satellite delay or something? That story's a week old.

I hope it is anyway. :(

  10. id love to see Curbishley run Aston Villa with a bit of money to spend. He did superbly with limited funds at Charlton.

Curbishley would be an admittance that all we can aim for as a club is midtable.

He has done absolutely nothing in the past to suggest he can step beyond that. The bare minimum we should be planning for is a manager who can guarantee top six (with the usual caveats of funding, no interference etc).

Spot on. Curbishley to me is just ordinary. With Martin O'Neil in the job, the club would lose it's apathy and sense of doom and gloom overnight (well almost). I'm just keeping everything crossed at the moment, but i wouldn't be surprised if the Villa let me down yet again.

  11. yep just stalling, to take the pressure off and has it not worked, I wonder though who advised him to do that ???

doubt it was Ellis, hate to think it was Petchey ....

Do you ever get bored with going over the same stuff time and time again??

Why should he have you not seen any of the too numerous O'leary must go threads.

Not nearly enough in my opinion.
